Gonzo's shoulder (1 Viewer)

I need to solidify my roster by Thursday for the rest of the year. I have only been carrying 1 tight end, Mr. Gonzalez. I have been considering getting an insurance policy for Gonzo, but with tight rosters, I would either have to drop a rb handcuff or my #3 qb - Trent Green. Gonzo had a nice stretch with Huard before Green came back, and has only tested the shoulder one game.

My question is on the health of the shoulder. Should I feel confident that the shoulder is fine and Gonzo will not be limited by the injury?

He's unlikely to be limited (much) by the injury, but the offense he's in is going to limit him significantly.

He's not in Antonio Gates' position. He doesn't get hardly any red zone targets, and his overall targets are few and far between, to be honest.

4-35 last week on 4 targets, the fewest targets he's had all season. 3 catches were for first downs. I think he's fine. I am a bit concerned that Green doesn't throw to him like Huard does. Hope I'm wrong and that after last week's performance, he gets some more looks.

I don't think there's anybody you can pick up that you should start over him.

You also have to consider that Denver is one of the best teams in defending opposition TE's. Gates and Gonzo regularly have bad games against Denver, and last week was no exception.

The shoulder played an impact, but I think that was more in his blocking then receiving and route running. What limited him was Denver's LB's and safeties, although they forgot to worry about LJ.

I was watching ESPN last night and they had John Clayton's "Inside the Huddle". His last point was regarding Tony Gonzalez and how he did some different offseason workout/training regimen and it's paid dividends in that Gonzalez feels he is more explosive this time of the year and he was able to come back from the shoulder injury after missing only one game. Reading between the lines, he should be good to go this week although Clayton didn't say anything about the actual % health of Gonzo's shoulder.

I'd add that he played on Thanksgiving Day so that gives him 10 days rest on that shoulder rather than the normal 7 days rest if had played on Sunday. I am not saying coming of a thanksgiving day game is like having a bye week, but the extra time to heal and prepare for this week is definately appreciated by his shoulder I am sure.
