Grab Mike Walker now.... (1 Viewer)

So, Porter is going to miss a good chunk of time. Now, Reggie Williams has sprained his knee and is scheduled to miss at least a few days. So, what does that mean?

Mike Walker and Troy Williamson will be the starting wideouts for now. Now, of course, I could try and pimp Williamson, but we all know better. Walker, on the other hand, is someone we've all read the hype on. Well, before he lives up to it, now is the time to get him cheap before he starts making noise in camp. I'm just sayin.......

Few days?

Aren't both Porter and Williams scheduled back for the start of the season, and clearly Williams in less than a week?

if williams' injury were to linger (not supposed to, but i guess it could), i wouldn't discount the possiblity of a matt jones sighting. he's in camp. williamson/walker would get their opportunities first, but one has no experience and the other can't catch.

jones would be an absolute longshot, but stranger things have happened.

I was staying away from the Jags passing game before they got injured. The Jags will be all about D and running. The TE and RB may catch a bunch.

Well, at least we might actually get to see Mike Walker play versus trust the numerous reports of his studliness.

I'm staying away from the Jags passing game altogether.
You mean that? There are always places to find value if you look in the right spot, AB
I'll always take anyone if the value presents itself, but I doubt the Jag WRs will fall to a point where I would take them.
Does that include David Garrard? What happens to his value following his probable top two wr targets being considerably injured?

Garrard finished as QB16 last year and many thought of him as underrated coming into this season. He threw 18 TDs, 10 of those to Reggie Williams. I see no way that Williams repeats that performance, especially if this injury lingers close the the regular season. I am starting to think Garrard is looking at a drop from last year.

Porter tore his hamstring, so while the team is officially saying "back by week 1", that is clearly a pipe dream.
yeah i loved the post op by doc "re-attached the tendon to the bone" then the team's "will be 100% week 1"

I'm trying my best to do the same. All these years and Jax cannot seem to solve their passing/receiving woes. If they ever get that figured out, they are in the Super Bowl with that defense...

Now is the time to grab Mercedes Lewis.
Marcedes Lewis has shown poor route running, and very little talentsince being in the NFL, unfortunately, because I really liked him at UCLA.

If you followed UCLA at all then this should not have come as a surprise. He was pegged as a guy who would be raw coming into the league. Especially considering that TE is a position for which immediate impacts are rare.

:bag:

Garrard? Seriously?

Garrard would have had 26 td if he played all 16 games (one he left early) w/ 3600+ yds

would have been 10th in yds and tied for 10th in tds...not bad.....seriously?

For the money, it seems like Walker may be the only Jag WR with true #1 upside. At the $ right now, worth a flyer.

The money play here is northcutt. All through the offseason, their rapport hasn't missed a beat. Garrard is very comfortable with Northcutt's route running and he has thrown a good amount of balls his way.

While the injury to Williams is nothing to get worked up about, yet, Kotter has stressed the importance of Northcutt to the offense and has repeatedly stated that he is looking to open up the offense and put more emphasis on the vertical passing game. Williamson has looked good without pads, but remains a significant wildcard. While people villify northcutt for the drop in the pats game, he was very steady through the regular season.

That said, I still have my money on Reggie returning at full strength. And he is the guy you want in this passing offense.

:goodposting:I'd love if Mike Walker was a force this year, but he is coming back from serious knee injuries and he's limited to only one practice a day. (He practiced tonight but didn't practice in the morning). JDR said that Reggie would be running on the side on Sunday and would practice in a couple of days.

I own Walker in my dynasty league, but his knee injuries are extremely worrisome. From everything I have heard, he was a stud in last years camp and has true @ 1 ability. Unfortunately, his knee problems might never let him stay on the field for long.

WALKER GETTING BACK ON TRACK

With the development of the receiving corps a point of emphasis for the Jags this training camp, former UCF standout Mike Walker appears to be on track to have his shot to compete for a starting spot.

Walker sat out all of his 2007 rookie season after having arthroscopic left knee injury in October, but has been active since the latter sessions of organized team activities last month.

He sat out Saturday’s morning workout, doing some like agility drills on his own, but worked out with the team during the evening session. Coach Jack Del Rio said the plan right now is to integrate Walker back in slowly.

“Mike’s really been cleared for everything,” Del Rio said. “We’re just doing what we think is the wise thing in limiting the exposure. We’re giving him one-a-day rather than two-a-day [practices]. And spending the rest of the time keeping his body strong and healthy.”

During the scrimmage... Dennis Northcut made nice cathces. You can see a chemistry forming there. Matt (Jones) made one nice catch. Mercedes (Lewis) dropped one... I saw Mike Walker take the field but didn’t see much directed at him.

I'm liking the blurbs over on the Jags board on MW. Positive news in dynasty's is all we need  This thing keeps building and building, slowly. If either Porter or Williams have a reoccurring injury or lingering status...I think Walker comes out of this as the opening day starter. Once we finally see what he's got, who knows?

Apparently in the Jags scrimmage tonight Walker and Northcutt were the first WRs to take the field when the O came out. It sounds like Walker wasn't targeted too much since they worked on check downs and shorter routes. Also sounds like most of the WR except Jones didn't stand out, with Walker looking ok, Williamson getting behind all the coverage when he wanted but looking lost and getting pulled after 1 short catch.

Jags seem to think Porter and Williams will be back by week 1. But with Williams looking like he'll need 5-6 weeks to rehab after his scope today and Porter missing probably just as much if not more. We all know that you usually just add a couple extra weeks on to the end of any time table just for safe (longterm) measure.

You have to view Walker practicing only once a day as a good thing. He's not a rookie in a new system so he'll get his shot. Plus he doubled down today with a practice and a scrimmage.

Here's a few onlooker blurbs:

Scrimmage tonight:

Mike Walker and Dennis Northcutt were the first WR's on the field when the offense came out.

David then hit Mike Walker on a crossing route for a decent gain. Walker made a great diving catch on the play.

Practice earlier today:

Cleo Lemon and Mike Walker connected on a deep post pattern that was perfectly timed. Walker seems to be fully back in stride, showing no ill-effects from the practice the other night where he was falling and hobbling all over the place. He glides out there when he is running well, and he was gliding in a big way today.

David Garrard connected on a deep sideline route with Mike Walker. Walker had gotten behind Drayton Florence and Reggie Nelson, and Garrard got the pass over the coverage and into Walker’s hands. The ball was ever so slightly under thrown, forcing Walker to break stride somewhat. This allowed Nelson and Florence to close the gap quickly, and force him out of bounds. Had the pass been out in front of Walker, neither defender would have caught Walker on the play.

David Garrard went to Mike Walker over the middle in traffic. Walker made a great move on his cut to create separation from Brian Iwuh as he went over the middle. He froze Iwuh with a little hip swivel before making his cut, and got enough separation in traffic to make a nice gain on the play.

If meaningless game Matt Jones shows up I'd say 4th WR. If meaningful game Matt Jones shows up, I'd say 3rd WR while Mr. Flex is sidelined. He's got WR2 potential though after a couple of big plays. Who knows once he gets on the field, just needs a little confidence, all the pieces are now in place!
