Grade my High Stakes Team - 1st draft of the year (1 Viewer)

I had my first high stakes draft last week.  I haven't been as engaged in the offseason as I usually am. Just kind of curious what y'all think about this team.  I had the 1.05 (2.08) pick and chose Nuk. Gurley was my 2nd round pick.  This is a typical PPR scoring league (RT Sports The Fantasy Championship).  I don't love my bench.  If Gurley has minimal regression, I love my starters.

Starters:

Deshaun Watson QB

Kenyan Drake RB

Todd Gurley RB

Corey Davis WR

DeAndre Hopkins WR

Cortland Sutton WR

Adam Thielen WR

Evan Engram TE

Justin Tucker PK

Los Angeles Rams DEF

Bench:

Drew Brees QB

Rex Bulkhead RB

Corey Clement RB

Carlos Hyde RB

Jerick McKinnon RB

Marquise Brown WR

Michael Gallup WR

Marquise Goodwin WR

Mecole Hardman WR

Carolina Panthers DEF

I assume you went Nuk, Gurley, Thielen, Watson, Engram (or vice versa). If so, I think taking a TE and QB that early outside of 2QB or TE premium is a mistake.

Love your starting WR's, and Engram......not a fan of your RB's.....but like you said, Gurley is the key here.

Isn't Goodwin on the bubble?  He really seemed like he was going places a couple seasons ago.

I feel a tiny bit sad that Brees is losing FF relevance.....nice b/u though.

I went a little early on QB. I wanted Watson bad though and Mahomes and someone else were gone so wanted to get my guy. I took Engram as the 4th TE in round 5 and think he’s a 1,000 yard receiver this season. Looking at the other round 5 picks, I’m glad I took Engram. Other 5th rounders: Kupp, Boyd, Lockett, Cohen, Carson, Moore, M Williams....

I don't know all the line-up requirements but I do think going early at QB and TE have left your RBs and WRs pretty thin. I am pretty high on Boyd and Lockett though. I guess the question is, what QB/TE could have been had in rounds 7-10?

Round 7-10 TEs:

Hunter Henry (7)

OJ Howard (7)

Jared Cook (7)

Ebron (8)

Njoku (8)

Hooper (10)

V McDonald (10)

I have Engram, Howard and Henry as their own tier so I would rather get them in round 7 than Engram in round 5. Though I’m surprised they fell that far as I usually see those 3 go in between the late 4th to early 6th.

Will you please list them by round drafted?  As for the 5th round choice of Engram, you had no idea the next TE would be 2 rounds later, but in hindsight, I have to assume you'd rather have Howard or Henry.

I’ll list them out later when on my laptop. I’d much rather have Engram than those two. I think Engram is in for 1,000+.

Howard is a risk with Brate still there and Arians history with TE (lack of) usage. HH coming off ACL and the emergence of Mike Williams also makes him more risky than Engram.

I don't have an issue with taking a QB and TE in the 4th/5th. I would have picked a RB in the 3rd instead of Thielen. And then passed on Drake in the 6th (I assume) for Henderson or the top WR on the board. But that is personal preference stuff. I like Thielen but I'm definitely taking a RB in the 3rd this year in nearly every spot.

I just usually find  low stakes best ball, not high stakes) I am able to get Huntry Henry at the end of the 5th and Matt Ryan in the early 6th or even Cam Newton in the 8 sometimes. I like that better than losing out on the RBs/WRs available in the 4th and 5th. Sometimes I don't even love the RB or WR I take in that area but I am trying to better at recognizing that I am often totally wrong about players and sometimes it's just best to listen to the expert consensus and choose a position more than trying to find a player I love.

I don’t like Corey Davis, Corey Clement, Michael Gallup, or Mecole Hardman this year.

Besides that, I think you did outstanding. Should make the playoffs and maybe win a ship if you can upgrade Kenyan Drake.

I've been taking Luck or Rodgers in the 6th or Cam in the 8th or 9th in the FBG players championships and bestballs. It is TE premium so combined with people generally waiting on QB you can definitely get a top one relatively late. If I take two RBs in the 1st three rounds I typically feel pretty flexible from there. I'm not as big on Engram as the OP but I get going after "his guy". I'd like it more if he had gone RB in the 3rd. At 3.05 one or more of Henry, Jones, Williams, Johnson, Jacobs, Freeman, Mack should be available. It's not like Thielen is a bad pick it's just the drafter is going to be chasing RB a little. Especially with the risk of Gurley. I also like Ingram and Montgomery in the 4th over Watson but that's alright.

Like your starters. Hate your bench a lot.

i damn near would prefer most of that list over engram straight up.
No

I don’t understand why you’re carrying two QB’s and two defenses. You want upside and are wasting those roster spots (especially after taking Watson so high). Also, your late round fliers don’t look so hot. You drafted a bunch of rookie WR’s and a couple of RB’s that have little upside (Burkhead and Clement).

Pretty much all of those fifth rounders would have been preferable to Engram to me.

I love the Engram pick.  You might have went a round too early but believe he's the 4th best TE on his our tier and the only other TE that can put up 1,000 yds and 6-8 tds.
