Draft tournament. Teams that don't make the championship playoffs play in a one-and-done tournament and the winner gets first pick. Runner-up gets 2nd. Winner between the the teams that lost in the semi's get 3rd. And then a lottery (all with equal chance) for the rest of those who didn't make the championship playoffs. Rest of the first round and second round picks go as they do today. I'm even fine with not doing the lottery part. I just want to see a March Madness style tournament to help determine the first 3 picks.

Bill Simmons has espoused something similar for 8th place (and 1st pick I think) in the NBA for a couple years now. Calls it the "Entertaining As Hell Tournament". Single elimination if I remember right.

I personally dont think its as big of an issue as people like to believe it is.

Just wait till a fringe playoff team loses on purpose to get the #1 pick.

Getting rid of the draft is a great brainstorming idea, but I really wouldnt want that.

The Celtics have screwed up by not sucking enough in the moribund East. Brilliant front office work the last 2 years. Flawless. They acquired so many picks that it's hard to keep track. They lack a blue chipper though and really need a top pick that hits to have them in high cotton. In the NBA superstars are everything.

And then they go muck around and might make the playoffs only to get destroyed by Atlanta. Now they run the risk of becoming that team that always makes the playoffs as a 5-6 seed but can never advancr more than a round in the playoffs. Even with tanking, rebuilding is tough.

North American sports suck. Never ending regular seasons, crap shoot playoffs, non stop commercials and nothing to play for bottom feeders because they make billions anyway.

-1 home game, one away game v. every other team

-3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie(football obviously wouldn't work here)

-most points win

-relegation, no free rides

-no owner cartels, you want a team, you got one(starts at the bottom)

-home grown players, no silly drafts

Every single aspect of European sport destroys American sports.
