I realize that this has probably been done to death, but I'm interested in the view on one particular player. So indulge me and vote once again. (Maybe I'm too early throwing LT in there, but there may be some people out there starting to feel that way about him)

I voted Tomlinson a couple years ago. No one better has entered the league since then, so I see no reason to change.

My post was aimed at his inclusion in the poll itself, but I could see how you would have read it as a response to yours, my bad.

First of all, we've done this poll a number of times.

Second, to include Reggie Bush is imbecilic, if the post is meant to be serious. It p##### me off, so naturally, I voted Bush, because it is so idiotic.

No, I don't think you realize how good bush is.He would beat Jesus in the 40.When someone is this good, he gets put in a poll with the all time greats 13 games into his career. Its just standard protocol for greatness

:goodposting: Bush should win this by a LARGE margin :)

I've always been of the opinion that it is Walter Payton

I have to admit that for the first time in my life, someone (LT2) is making me question that.

I think the greatest running back to play the game didn't play long enough to be considered the greatest running back to play the game.

Bo Jackson

As a pure runner it would be hard to argue against Jim Brown or Barry Sanders. As a complete RB LT probably gets the vote. I may be in the minority but I'd put Marshall Faulk on this list. He didn't run as hard as LT but was a better receiver.

At some point, you have to remember its a RBs primary job to score touchdowns. LT2 has amassed 31 total TDs in 13 games including 2 passing TDs. He's on pace for 38 combined TDs in 16 games... good enough to tie him for 8th place in total TDs on a season. In other words there may end up only 7 other players including QBs in history that have amassed more TDs in one year. That is simply astonishing. Shouldnt even be possible.

Why is Emmitt Smith even on that list?

Jim Brown (& Sayers) played in such a different era, IMO, it's very hard to compare.

My two favorites are Barry & Walter. Barry is a tad more exciting for me to watch than Walter, but Walter is more well rounded. He runs over you, around you, passes, catches & blocks all extremely well.

LT is starting to look like an even better version of Walter. He is also extremely well rounded and gifted in all aspects of the game.

I voted Walter, but that could change after a few more years of watching LT.

Anyone that votes other than Jim Brown is a idiot ! NO RB comes remotley close !

JIM BROWN -- greatest runner ever

Barry Sanders - most enjoyable to watch play ever

Eric Dickerson - Most dominant single season ever.

 I said as much in my original post. I had a specific reason that I wanted to see the current results.

Having Bush in there was obviously done as a joke. Sorry that offends you. But thanks for making it clear that you voted just to attempt to screw up the poll.

1. Walter Payton

2. Jim Brown

3. Emmitt Smith

4. LaDanian Tomlinson

5. Earl Cambell

Edit: I expect I will eventually rank LT as the #2 or #1.

I did not vote LT yet.....but I have said for the last 3 years, that when it is all said and done.... LT will go down as the greatest RB ever.

I've always hedged my bets in this conversation by saying that Jim Brown was the most dominant against competition of his era, Walter Payton was the most versatile, Sanders was the most exciting back, and Eric Dickerson was the best pure runner I have ever seen.

Tomlinson may very well be at the head of all four of those categories now.

He would not beat Ditka in anything.

Can one of the seven people who voted for Emmitt please explain WHY?....real curious!

It's probably Jim Brown, but I never saw him play, aside from the clips where he's just running over everyone. So, I voted for Barry, because he did what he did playing behind some absolutely putrid offensive lines, and he made being a Lions fan a non-suicidal experience for a few years. Absolutely the most electrifying player I've ever seen.

LT needs to do it for a few more years before he can seriously enter the conversation.

If we could assume he keeps it up, it is LT.

If we're just going off their performance while playing, not stats, it's close between LT and Bo.
