I coulda sworn Greenway sacked Brees in the 2nd quarter. Anyone else see this?

Also thought he could 've been credited with a couple more tackles/assists.

He was all over the place last night.

If anything it would be 1/2 a sack. I'm pretty sure he was the second guy there on that sack. What about Ray Edwards tackle of Drew Brees? It was a tackle for a loss but not a sack?

I think when they viewed the play they determined it was a planned running play, so no sack. Not sure if that is something Elias would review or not.

I watched some of the game and thn listened on the radio for awhile b4 work I really do think I heard Greenways name called for a sack (I was kinda happy it wasnt EJ beacuse I had him on the BN)

To be considered a sack the quarterback must intend to throw a forward pass. If the play is designed for the quarterback to rush the ball, any loss is subtracted from the quarterback's rushing total. If the quarterback's intent is not obvious statisticians use certain criteria, such as the offensive line blocking scheme, to decide. Other unique situations where a loss reduces a quarterback's rushing total (not a sack) are "kneel downs" (used to run time off the game clock), and aborted plays, such as a fumbled snap that the quarterback falls on to maintain possession. A player will receive credit for half of a sack when multiple players contribute to the sacking of a quarterback.

btw Didnt it almost look like "oh sheet I gotta run for it"

Pertaining to Greenway's sack:

ESPN has the play-by-play like this:

2nd and 10 at MIN 42 (Shotgun) D.Brees sacked at 50 for -8 yards (J.Mitchell, C.Greenway).

Cbssports has it the same as do the other play by play accounts.

That would indicate that both players would get 1/2 a sack. There was a similar play last season with Kirk Morrison I think. Sometimes Elias will change this but last season Morrison's wasn't.

I'm 99% sure you need the semi-colon

(J.Mitchell, C.Greenway) means Mithcell got the sack

If it were (J.Mitchell; C.Greenway) they would split it.

At least that's how it works for solo tackles.

; = both players get a solo

, = first player gets solo, second player gets assist

I was watching the game and was looking at the stats. It was put down as a sack but later before the game ended changed. Don't know why.

I watched the play several times. Greenway set up the sack but Mitchell cashed it in. I would be shocked if it is anything other than a full sack for Mitchell (although Greenway did occupy the blockers to allow it).

I am not the brightest bulb; but wouldn't the word SOLO mean only ONE player gets credit for the tackle. I believe the scoring is either a solo tackle and an assist or an assist to two different players.

This is incorrect. I have written about this before. The comma gives the 1st player a solo and the 2nd player an assist. The semicolon gives both players an assist tackle. I will provide example games if you want.
