Greg Childs out for season (1 Viewer)

I thought he had a shot to make an impact as a rookie on a team with a weak WR corps, but now you have to wonder about his future as well.

MANKATO, Minn. -- Vikings rookie wide receiver Greg Childs will miss the entire 2012 NFL season after tearing the patellar tendon in both knees toward the end of a Saturday, Aug. 4, scrimmage.

This is a huge blow for the Vikings' down-field passing game and personally for Childs, who tore his right patellar tendon while a junior at Arkansas in 2010.

He is expected to have surgery, according to the team.

The injury occurred on a pass toward the corner of the end zone. "Greg has struggled with injuries, as we all know, as he was coming out of college. Hopefully, things will work out and it's nothing serious," Frazier said late Saturday.

At 6 feet 3, 217 pounds, the athletic Childs is considered a candidate to replace Jerome Simpson while he serves a three-game suspension.

"Obviously, he was holding his knee. That's never a good thing," quarterback Christian Ponder said. "It's unfortunate."

Tough break for Childs who was awesome ar Arkansas and had worked hard for this opportunity

I feel so bad for him. It took him two years to recover from 1 tendon, I can't help but think if two doesn't end his career it will be at least 2 years before he has a chance to really be himself. Seems so crazy that both knees would go.

Well I guess we had bumped all the appropriate threads with this news, it was time it got it's own.
This time of year is maddening.
Was just thinking to myself, "Maybe it's time to take a month off from the Shark Pool."
Never understood these comments. If there is a thread that you don't like or is a repeat, why not just skip it instead of letting everyone know that you "might take a month off"? Back to the topic, i tend to think this is the end of any shot he had in the nfl, took him a little bit to recover from one, two at same time and a 2nd time on one knee is gonna be basically impossible imo.

Not liking it has nothing to do with it. Repeated topics and clutter knock worthy topics off the front page.

Would prefer it had its own thread myself. Easier to find than looking in related threads not specifically for the topic.Sucks. I had drafted him in the 3rd or 4th round of my rookie draft and hoped he would get a shot as was reported earlier this offseason.
