Greg Jones Done for the Year (1 Viewer)

It seems that Jones' injury could be worse than just a sprain. In a Q&A on the Jaguars website, their senior editor makes a comment saying that Jones is done for the year. I haven't seen it posted on any other website, but I doubt the editor would make such a comment without credible information. Anybody else heard anything?

Who now is Fred Taylor's backup? Labrandon Toefield? Alvin Pearman? Maurice Jones-Drew-Matinez-O'Callahan??? A combo of the aforementioned?

If any one player has the role, he bares watching.

I would think Maurice Jones-Drew would have his stock rise up more than Freddy T since he would be the true handcuff to Fred when he gets hurt. Fred was the starter regardless of whether Jones was hurt or not.

RB Jones lost for season

By VITO STELLINO, The Times-Union

Running back Greg Jones of the Jaguars will be sidelined for the season with a torn ACL for the second time in the last five years.

He suffered the injury Saturday night against Tampa Bay, and the Jaguars first reported it was a sprained MCL and he might be back for the season opener. But an MRI revealed it was actually a torn ACL on his left knee that will require surgery.

He suffered a similar injury on his right knee in his junior year at Florida State on his right knee so when he returns next year he'll be playing with two reconstructed knees.

Jones was just starting to regain the form he had last year before he suffered the injury. His first two years with the Jaguars, he had been a fullback and short yardage runner, but he seemed on the way to becoming a breakaway threat again this year.

With Jones out, Derrick Wimbush will likely become the fullback with Fred Taylor remaining their lead runner. Jones had been expected to share time with Taylor this year.

I hate drafting early.

I hope that Mike Peterson is out of the woods. Everytime I hear knee sprain I get nervous, until MRI results come out you never know for sure. Is there any way they keep Freddy Taylor, Drew, Toefield, and Pearman, or will one of Toefield and Pearman be getting cut?

Well. I guess since they are now down their starting FB it would come down to who can better fit a backup FB role, assuming they don't want one of their TEs to assume that role. I would have to assume that Pearman, being more similar to Jones-Drew, would be the likely cut if they do cut one.

Wonder if it makes sense to pick up Jones-Drew in a redraft, or if this simply means that Fred is a better late-round value...

Vic Ketchman says Toefield is a lock to make the team - so if he's right, Pearman would be the one on the bubble. I would think Pearman makes the team with his versatility, but it also matches up perfectly with Maurice Jones-Drew's abilities.

Toe has been doing well and busting his butt since the spring. He's finally shown the work ethic they wanted years ago from him. Pretty confident they drafted Drew figuring a typical Tofield and this is a pleasant "problem" to have for the depth chart.

"Hello, Cowher? Del Rio here. What about that Duce?" :) Jags will be signing another back shortly. Stay tuned.
Jags are deep at RB. Not so sure about their depth at FB and how Jones affects that, though FBs are usually available on the NFL WW.

Is Drew really the guy? 22 carries and 3.3 ypc so far in pre-season. Looks like Quentin Griffin to me. Too small. Griffin only had a couple games over 100 yards. One in '03 and another in '04. The other backs took up the rest as I predict will happen here. Toefield will be in the mix a lot.

not too small, just short.

I think the reason why they gave misinformation after the game is because the knee swelled so much while testing the knee on the sideline that they got a false negative while doing an ACL stress test. That's why MRIs are always needed. With Drew getting the returns for JAC, does anyone feel Pearman would get the moajority of the reps if something was to happen to Fred. They don't have a big RB like Jones in the depth.

Yeah I guess you have a point there. Q's weight was around 180 or so while Drew is over 200.

Maurice Drewcheck out this link....people were discussing his height etc.

Ironic, I paid more cash for Jones($23) than I did for the fragile one($18) to be my #3 RB in my most important league cause I thought it more likely Taylor would be the one going down and yet its Jones....go friggin figure. Obviously Taylors value goes up some...not alot but some but I'm as interested as you guys in who's the handcuff as I also bought Drew for a lousy buck as my last pickup and I'm thinking that could be one of the better dollars I've spent in an auction in a long time....or at least I'm hoping so.

So what's the consensus.....Drew? Toefield? or Pearman?. I know who I'm hoping for Drew but that's my bias thinking for me.

Wimbush? Jax homers...?
Wimbush broken his left forearm (or hand, i've seen both reported) back in June, but is full speed again. He's the only RB on the roster that can play FB in GJones's absence, so he could take Pearman's roster spot. It also helps that he can return kickoffs.

IMO, this is a bigger bump for Fred than people think. G. Jones will not get the GL carries and short yardage. This was looking to be a RBBC, but now I see Fred getting most of the work. He has been looking pretty good, IF he can stay healthy.
