Ok before preseason a lot of staffers thought Greg Jones would be the starting MLB to begin the season, now that he has a shot it seems many are quick to think the giants will look for someone else to fill in!! I don't see the point in picking up an old "has been" to start over a talented solid tackler like Jones, I could see picking up a vet for depth but not as a starter. I see Jones having some growing pains but if they stick with him I think he might be the DROY and surprise a lot of people, they should let Boley call the plays until he is comfortable much like they did with Goff. Jones has a great motor and plays with passion, he is a little short at 5'10 but solid at 250 pounds and reminds me alot of L. Fletcher!!

prediction: DROY 90 Solo 30 Assist 2 sacks 1 int

Im onboard. Betting he plays on passing downs and is the next Demeco, Lofa rookie MLB to impress us.
except those mentioned and other rookie LB'ers to come out like gangbusters were starters from day 1 of a regular training camp schedule.........not a guy running with the 3rd string during a shortened camp before injuries forced him to the lineup a week before regular season.

Understand, but I'm a sucker for the all around solid high performing college player who drops solely based on a few inches and a few 10ths of a second. It's a longshot to be sure...but opportunity is not a lengthy visitor. He's getting a shot and I'm willing to bet at seasons end we mention him in the same breath as those other out of nowhere MLBs. Watching His games in college my gut tells me he can play. I'm likely wrong, but I'll take my shot. Let's see how he looks tomorrow.

thats a big stat prediction for a guy who won't be playing on passing downs atleast for awhile
Who is going to replace him on passing downs? They have 3 other non-starting LBs on the roster and they are all rookies to.
boley will be the only LB'er in pure passing downs and kiwi will join him in more traditional nickel packages. kiwi adds pass rush presence and isn't as bad dropping back as you'd think from a guy his size and limited LB'er experience. he has played the job(SLB) well when he has been out there. Giants resigned Deon Grant with intentions of playing him less, that won't be the case. he will damn near get starter snaps till prince is back. if the giants front 4 can be as dominant as it should, mainly get inside push from Canty, the defense even with all its losses can still be pretty potent.and i'm not so certain that as the year progress's we don't start to see more of Mark Herzlich as he gets healthier/stronger in some kind of role.

in high heels!!!LOL Jones is 5'10!!!

So far he doesn't look like he's in the nickel, and he doesn't look so good against the 1's (to my eyes..) Ahh well, it's still early in the season...fingers crossed for him.

Yea didn't look to great today.

His height is going to be an issue because QBs can throw right over him. And he's not tall enough to guard tight ends

Actually after watching the game I thought Jones looked pretty good despite the loss and apparently so does the coach!! After watching the game vs gametracker and hearing Coughlin I stick by my prediction DROY!!! Only other contenders in my eye will be Peterson/Matthews/Foster.

Coach Tom Coughlin is encouraged by the play of his rookies, specifically MLB Greg Jones. “They didn’t miss anything physically,” he said. “Greg Jones stuck it up in there well. Again, as time goes on and they learn more about how to study and where to look for tips and where to anticipate things and to listen, they’ll improve.”

Von Miller and Ryan Kerrigan may have something to say here.

Foster/Matthews not so much.

Good news on Jones, thanks for the quote.

Greg Cosell interestingly mentioned Jones this morning on NFL radio. The commentator asked Cosell about the QBs in the Was Nyg game. Oddly, Cosell never got to the QBs. Paraphrased he said "it's interesting whT you see when watching film. Like wi that game going back I thought the Giants rookie LB Greg Jones looked slow, plodding even. Now, that could be because he was thinking to much, but it caught my eye going back.".
