Should Schiano have let Martin go for the record?

With almost 10 minutes to go in the fourth quarter and leading the Raiders by 11, Schiano opted to keep Doug Martin on the sidelines. Martin was 52 yards away from breaking the all time single game rushing record. Blount promptly fumbled the ball.

Thoughts?

TD here and he'll be back

Like I said in another thread it's unreal how some of these NFL coaches are so FOOOCKIN stupid sometimes!!! Any moron could have and would have put Doug in the game to seal it up with how he's been running today!

Yeah, I'm a Martin owner but I have to say.... That fumble was on Freeman, not Blount. Carry on.

Absolutely not. Martin's had a ton of touches in the last few weeks, and is the future in TB....you don't mess around giving him relatively meaningless carries when you have other legitimate options. The game was presumably won, and you play to win, not set a record.

People have been blaming Blount for a fumble...but it was a poor handoff and was charged to Freeman....really was Freeman's fault too.

ETA: It's ridiculous to use the word "benched" anyway...he wasn't benched...he sat out a series when his team had a 11 point lead and he had 22+ touches already.

:goodposting: No reason to get greedy and risk injury when up by 11. Besides, his legs had to be tired.

Yup. It wasn't that long ago that Caddy Williams was gashing teams as a rookie. They gave him too many carries and he got injured, and it sat/affected him for a month. If Martin gets injured or over-worked, people blame the coaching too. I'm pretty sure NFL coaches' job at this point is to get criticized. Especially from a fantasy stand-point. It's played out.

LOL at all the folks in here assuming Schiano sat Martin because he thought the game was in the bag with 10 minutes to play and up 11.

Did you guys not see Martin sucking oxygen on the sidelines? He was likely spent and was getting a breather after running for 250 yards. Those long ### TD's take quite a bit out of you.

Thank the lord that the TB coaching staff for NOT giving him one last carry. I surely lose high score.

I know you're dying to know. 149.16 to 148.96 (Neg for loss of yardage) :football:

No kidding. I wish they could have taken the guy out a bit more than they did. He ended up with too many touches for my taste. With 28 in the Vikes game, and then 29 vs the Raiders, I don't want the guy wearing out before the playoffs. They should spell him with Ward instead of Blount. Ward is a very good backup RB, and Blount is terrible. Although the fumble was not his fault, he still is awful. I would like to see Martin get 22-25 touches at the most. With these 28 and 29 touch games, pretty soon these coaches will start getting comfy with 30, then 32, then 35. I do not want that. Plus, I could care less about the record. Go outside when you get a chance, and then run 70 yds as fast as you can, and change direction a little bit along the way..... Then come back here and tell us how you feel
