Hakeem Nicks - Knee Injury? (1 Viewer)

Saw this on Rotoworld. Anyone know when this happened? Doesn't sound good.

Hakeem Nicks will undergo further evaluation on his injured knee after initial X-rays came back negative on Sunday evening.

HC Tom Coughlin said at his Monday press conference that Nicks is dealing with "some type of injury." An ominous sounding statement, but far from an indication Nicks' injury is serious. He does appear to be a question mark for Week 2, however, after his knee swelled up on Monday. If Nicks doesn't go against the Rams, Mario Manningham can be treated as a WR1.

Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is having a knee evaluated today after suffering an injury in yesterday's 28-14 loss to the Redskins. Coach Tom Coughlin did not know the severity of the injury or if Nicks will miss any time."We know that he has some type of injury there," Coughlin said. "Don't know what it is or to what extent."Nicks apparently banged up his knee and his wrist last night. Nicks underwent X-rays after last night's game. Coughlin said Nicks has experienced swelling today. An injury would be devastating for the Giants, who have already lost four players to season-ending knee injuries. Nicks is the Giants' top wide receiver. He had seven catches for 122 yards yesterday.Nicks has not played a full season in his first two years in the NFL. He emphasized that his goal was to finish this season healthy.* * * *Coughlin did not have any further information on DE Justin Tuck (neck), DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) or TE Travis Beckum. They still need to be cleared by the medical staff.

Isnt a bone bruise what kept Carlos Beltran out half a season? LMAO at saying "at worst"
Yeah baseball players have a different pain threshold it would seem...Football player gets a concussion and he's out 2 days...in baseball its a 6 month minimum...
MLB has a seven-day concussion DL specifically so that players won't have to sit out a full 15 days when they get a concussion.Otherwise, great post. Compelling and rich. Bragging about the relative toughness of the professionals in a sport you watch definitely makes you tougher by association.

Everyone on twitter is now saying it's just a bruise and that he's fine.
Link from credible source?
Everyone isn't credible enough?
Who, everyone like us ;)
I'll reply to my own message.... and a repeat from above with just a little more data.A Giants source has told the Newark Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo that Hakeem Nicks (knee) is dealing with a "bone bruise at worst."Some alarm bells went off Monday afternoon when the Giants announced their star wideout would undergo further evaluation on his knee after Sunday evening X-rays came back negative, but Nicks showed up at the team facility shortly thereafter and declared himself fine. Great news, though he shouldn't be considered a slam dunk to be active for Week 2 until you see him on the practice field. Source: Mike Garafolo on Twitter

A joke? Guess I must have missed the part that was funny  Seriously though, I was just pointing out that you were wrong about baseball players and injuries. No oversensitivity at work. It doesn't really bother me that you were wrong, but your wrongness is kinda relevant to the discussion, because time missed by Beltran might be useful information to know if Nicks is diagnosed with a similar injury. That's all.

I can see how some wouldn't understand how it was a joke. Also, you didn't point out anything about me being wrong about baseball players and injuries. You simply stated that they have a 7 day DL for concussion....and I was aware of that. This had NOTHING to do in any way with Beltran's "bruise"...unless the Nicks bruise turns out to be an arthritic condition that eventually requires multiple surgeries with the major one being a behind the teams back surgery that has him sidelined for roughly a year....if that happens then you're on to something....

Its overstatement as humor. I thought it was funny. Of course it took the thread way off course. First time that's ever happened on the internet (note: sarcasm at work)

Who would be his replacement?
Cruz and maybe Hixon would rotate and play in the 2/3 slots. If it is longer than that the Giants might have to sign someone. Understand that Nicks/Manningham/Cruz/etc...much different than Manningham being the WR1. I am a big fan of MM, but I am also a big fan of him lining up across from Nicks not Cruz. Hopefully this is a week or two thing.

Don't be ridiculous. Anyone who thinks baseball players as a whole have an equal or higher pain threshold than football players is just plain ignorant.

Hakeem Nicks' wrist is fine. His knee, however, has now become a serious source of concern for the injury-riddled Giants. The wideout spent Monday afternoon being examined by doctors and presumably undergoing an MRI after injuring his knee during Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Redskins. Nicks only mentioned a wrist injury after the game, but he received X-rays on his knee and wrist on Sunday. Both tests came back negative, but Tom Coughlin said Monday that Nicks' knee was swelling."We know that he has some type of an injury there," Coughlin said. "We don't know what it is or to what extent."Coughlin said he was unsure if the injury would keep Nicks out of Monday's home opener against the Rams. A source familiar with the injury said Nicks was "OK" and that the initial tests showed no serious damage. The source added that the Giants are hoping it is nothing more than a bone bruise, but they are proceeding cautiously because of the swelling. The swelling will likely cause Nicks to miss some practice time, and his status for Monday is, at best, uncertain. The extra day before the game, though, will certainly help.
Id start making backup plans just in case guys. The game is on MNF which is a good thing (extra day rest) and a bad thing (lineup decisions)

Hakeem Nicks - WR - Giants

Initial tests on Hakeem Nicks' knee showed no serious damage, a source tells the New York Daily News.

Even though the Daily News' source characterized Nicks as "OK," the star receiver isn't out of the woods yet. He has serious swelling in his knee and his status for Monday night is "at best, uncertain." Nicks is almost certain to miss practice time this week.

Ugh. I don't like the sound of significant swelling in the knee.

Missed out on Calvin Johnson by one pick and had to settle on Nicks. Argh.

I think he will be fine, don't worry. Nothing some rest/ice/massage work won't fix, with some good antibiotics. he's a football player man. :boxing: :boxing: :boxing: :boxing:

Looks like this one will be a gameday decision which sucks since it's on MNF. Unless the prognosis gets much better in the next few days, I'll probably just put Meachem in instead to avoid being hung with a goose egg.

this is a guy that came back in 3 weeks from a leg injury that people were calling a six week minimum and possibly a career ender... I'm betting he's playing.

Report: Hakeem Nicks 'in doubt' for Week 2

ESPN's John Clayton confirms that Hakeem Nicks' status is "in doubt" for Week 2.

Clayton is confirming a New York Daily News report that Nicks is "at best, uncertain" for Monday night's game against the Rams. "The knee is day to day but there is definite concern about this week," says Clayton. We're guessing that Domenik Hixon would start opposite Mario Manningham if Nicks can't go. Hixon could shape up as a nice "handcuff" waiver addition with St. Louis possibly missing both starting corners.

This has been a weird injury situation. All signs point to him being fine, day to day, no structural damage, "just" a bone bruise, etc. But all the media outlets are spinning it as if he isnt playing on Monday. I dunno, just seems the two dont match up. If he has no structural damage and just some swelling, wouldnt one think that will go down by Monday?

not necessarily. bone bruises can very very painful and take several weeks to heal.

:goodposting: I had one and it took very long to heal. Then again I didn't have trainers working on me.

This kinda thing happened a lot last year.

Besides that bacteria thing in his leg, whenever he said he'd play, he played.

They don't call him Nicks for nothing.

Big Giant Fan don't own Nicks and I am not playing against him this week.

If Clayton is calling him in doubt and uncertain at best why would Nicks owners try to convince themselves that everything is fine and he will play Monday night?

Believe me I want him in there more than you but from what I am hearing ... It aint gonna happen!!!! Look at other options
