I love this stuff. Good speeches. I almost always  and this is no exception. Green is on now. Fastest man!

Is this really the only thread? Can't believe that.

Anyway, yeah, love the speeches. Dean was all-time, I was cracking up. And then when the big fella had trouble finishing up some of the thanks, I welled up.

How funny was it when he finally admits he couldn't read his speech too good because he left his glasses somewhere. Then that dude gives him his.

Slowest talker of all-time, but he got there...

Oh, and I love how he basically says how his mother beat the crap out of him. :bag:

Nice job by D Green. I like him saying "I belong here"
Yeah, loved that part, that was great. But most of it I thought was just alright. And too religious. The other part that was good, actually just watched that part again and it's really good, was about his childhood best friends and football, his coaches, and both his buddies' untimely deaths. To think, that Green was supposed to be in that car that wrecked is crazy. He quit college after it. Then, after getting over that, his other buddy ends up taking his own life a few years later.I also liked that he went so far as to even thanking the groundskeepers at RFK. :lmao: Oh, and the part bout his high school coach that gave him a shot who took his first plane ride to see the HOF speech...at 79 years old.Funny, that Green and his buddies had to go back to elementary school to play with kids their size...and that the coach put them on the team.

Art Monk is a class act. Glad he finally made it.
Yeah, what a guy. Boy though, were they intent on preaching today, the Redskins. Might have been a group decision or something...Man, that standing O' was something else.It was kinda interesting to see the difference between Daryl and his kid, and Art and his kid, even though the message was much the same.

I agree they were very heavy with the religion today. I also thought it was way over the top talking about being faithfull to their wives. Green was so adamant about it that I thought he was trying to convince his wife he never cheated.

No, not a plan...just both of them are very grounded in the Lord. Maybe as 'Skins fans we knew that for a long time, but they have always been great examples of Christian men, who happened to play a game called football.

How do you know they didn't plan to preach? You talk to one of them before? And why did you capitalize "lord"?

That standing ovation was WAY over the top. NFL network said it was 3 minutes, but I went back and clocked it at over 4 minutes! I went to the hall for the first time last year, now I wish I had waited a year. It was a 90% Skins crowd for sure. Congrats to all the guys, it is a great honor. If you have not been to the Hall before, you have got to go at least once. I did think that it was Sunday and not because of the football, but because of the preaching. Art and Darrell are men of religion and believe in what they say. I think they were trying to get the message across that there is more to life and being a football player than open champaign bottles in Vegas, wearing bling or cheating on your wife.

A feelgood class. As a Pat's fan, I am very excited to have Tippet inducted. I grew up with him being one of the team's great and consistent stars. Those type of players weren't plentiful in those years.

Didn't know he was a 5th degree black belt. And in multiple martial arts to boot. That guy must still be gnarly. He said something to his martial arts crew in (Japanese?) and there were quite a few of them there because they chanted back. Even Kraft brought up some story about him showing up in a martial arts robe way back when. He must like it as much as he liked football, to still be doing it.

Was actually typing too fast, only the L is capitalized...meaning for Jesus Christ. Though there are meanings to capitalizing the entrire word "LORD" in the Bible too. Just wasn't entended for that in this case. As for the planning, no need to become smart-aleck. As I pointed out that maybe 'Skins fans are more in tune with both the players, but they have always been Christians that try to set a good example. How do we know? They always talk and make references about their faith in the Lord. So, it's not something they have to discuss and make a plan about, it's natural for them to talk about, but more importantly give thanks to the appropriate one.

I think I remember when it was revealed that he was into martial arts. He said it helped him in many ways on the football field. I unfortunately din't see the ceremony but am hoping NFLN replays it.NE hasn't had that many HOFers. Andre is what #4?

Biz, I knew what you meant, but don't worry, SLB NEVER gives up on the religion bashing. If thisz thread were in teh FFA all the usual suspects would be piling on too.Anyway, great speeches by both Art and Darrell and glad they are both now in Canton where they belong. Also did you notice that Darrell's speech even said nice things about Mr. Snyder?

Monk and Green are class acts. And both 100% deserve to be in Canton. And for those that don't like the "preachy" part, at least these 2 men ALWAYS walked the Christian walk. During their playing days, you never read about arrests, drugs, call girls, etc. Then you have guys like Prime Time and Irving, who everyone knows did anything but walk the Christian walk, but now...

Redskin fans greatly admire both of them. They worked hard and played well for a long time, were liked and respected by teammates and coaches, and really produced on the field. The admiration has little or nothing to do with the religion they talk about, and everything to do with their conduct. Over the years many Skins fans learned just to ignore the preachiness, like you ignore Uncle Ron at family gatherings when he goes off on a jag about communists infiltrating the State Department, because they're just plain good guys, good football players, good men.

I'm watching this off of my DVR as I couldn't see it live. I'm just at the beginning.

God, Berman is an awful MC.

That standing ovation for Monk was pretty awesome. Both Green and Monk look like they could throw pads back on and play - both guys look like they're in great shape.

Tippet looks like he could still play too.

Green didn't rub our noses in the God Squad chatter. Monk did. GB Tivo and a fast forward button. I respect any man of faith, I just don't have to listen to it. After Monk's 12th straight 'Jesus Christ' reference, I was over it.

On the one hand, it's who these guys are, and it's the biggest influence in their lives. OTOH, I too get tired very quickly with the evangelizing and testifying, and I think that it starts to have the effect on the audience opposite of the one intended pretty quickly. What's unfortunate about the way in which these presentations occur is that there isn't a systematic way of covering these guys' greatness. Yes, you have the presenters, but they either may or may not (and usually the latter) cover these things. For example, Darrell Green had that tremendous punt return for a TD in the 1987 divisional playoff game at Chicago to give the team the winning score, in the middle of which he tore cartilage in his rib cage. He also chased down Eric Dickerson, Tony Dorsett and later Napoleon Kaufman, all burners, from behind. On the Dorsett tackle it looks almost like a cartoon the way he closes on Dorsett from across the field. While they showed the last part of the Dickerson tackle, these types of things just weren't covered, which is a shame.

I still have no idea how Andre Reed isn't in but Michael Irvin and Art Monk are. I can see Monk because of the wait however, Reed should really been in but Cris Carter is ahead of him now.

Excuse me? "Never gives up"? What? First of all, I only see one reply from me. And how is my question "religion bashing"? Is it my opinion that offends you? Is it because it doesn't suit you? Wow, that would be ironic and hypocritical just the same now wouldn't it?

Tell you what DCThunder, calling you out.

Go find some threads where I am religion bashing. Go on, let's see it. Do a search. Any forum. I'm waiting.

Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who.

I was at the ceremony. 90% 'skins fans. I wore my Strahan jerey. I heard alot of ribbing, but nothing I coulcn't handle. I found myself clapping for all the HOF Cowboys. Everyone of them got booed loudly, especially Irvin, every time they got mentioned.

I've been to five of these and this was the most holy by far. Guys always tend to make religious references though. If it is who they are, it is completely appropiate IMO.

Two things: One, the crowd was loving Fred Dean, and two, Green should have went last. After his speech Zim and Monk did little to impress a restless crowd. I think the standing O for Monk had as much to do with folks wanting to stretch their legs.

All in all, this class was made up of one first ballot guy(Green). The rest of them were getting in after being snubbed for years. Each of those guys could argue that they should have been in already. Now that group becomes Cris Carter, Andre Reed, Richard Dent, and Randal McDaniel. There might be a few others. My point is the HOF made up some ground this year.

Seems like a lot of mustaches going into the Hall of Fame this year. Could be a lesson to future candidates on the bubble.
