Hamilton - Broadway musical streaming (1 Viewer)

So, so good.  I saw it this summer here in SF.  The soundtrack is on my gym playlist and no joke, pretty much still on repeat to this day for my cardio runs.

I bought six tickets at their $200 face via the long call-in que, flipped two for a rack on StubHub, so ended up with four tickets for $300.  A buddy hooked me up with eight drink tickets...Moet never tasted finer.

this is what they should be- like other shows. it's insane to me that we've all just accepted that we need to make a mortgage/rent payment to go see this thing.

and every day, that lottery notice that I didn't win is like a little knife in the gut. ####ers!

 
Finally seeing this tomorrow night in Chicago.  Just realized 10 minutes ago that it will be the 214th anniversary of his duel with Burr.

Weather might be too hot for this, but if not... there’s a bar across the street from the theater with sidewalk seating.  It was fun watching people arrive at the theater, taking pictures of themselves and the marquee, easy to get wrapped up in what a special event it is for pretty much everyone attending the show.  

It will be really crowded outside the theater afterwards and fairly chaotic with hundreds trying to grab cabs/Ubers on the same block of the same one-way street.  If you have the time to wait out the crowd... next block over is The Palmer House, a historic old hotel with an ornate lobby and lounge.  It’s the place Sinatra and co. always stayed at when they hit up Chicago, so a lot of mob business probably took place there, too, but I ain’t no snitch and I don’t know nothing about that.  

I hope you and yours have a lot of fun.

You were right.  I went into this totally blind.  I knew that the story involved Alexander Hamilton and that there was rap, but otherwise I literally knew nothing about what I was going to see.  I came in with high expectations based entirely on reputation, and it was even better than I expected.  Really well done.

I, for one, am happy you didn’t throw away your shot to see the show when you had the chance.

Finally saw it on Broadway last month. I had ridiculously high expectations and it was better than I expected. I was familiar with the music (which is brilliant) but there was more humor than I thought and the choreography was fantastic. 

 
Seeing it Sunday with tickets bought a year ago..

The wife was playing the soundtrack recently, and I now have strangely low expectations- probably better with the visuals, but on it's on the music didn't do anything for me (outside of the two or three tunes that you hear all the time)

Are you a rap fan? Went a couple weeks ago at Kennedy Center, here in DC, having never heard the music. Overall it was very good, first act was a bit hard for me and wife, since they seemed to be rapping very quickly, and since we are not a rap fans/listeners, we're not used to comprehending that form of music.

The second act has more 'traditional' musical songs, so it was easier for me. The role of King George is spec-damn-tacular and hysterical throughout the whole show.

Also, a minor PITA for us was the fact that the pair behind us were obnoxious. He was cheering as if he was watching a sporting event at home, screaming at high points in songs, and she was singing along as if to prove she new all the songs. Total PITA.

It's an immaculately crafted show. Really brilliantly done. For me, not worth the amount of money spent- but doesn't diminish the show (second to me only after the first Angels in America). 

One quibble- besides the really wrong pricetag- on Broadway, you are squeezed into ridiculously tight seats that make airlines seem like palaces.

I was surprised how truly tiny the venue was, but I think it lent to a more immersive experience.

yeah, no ####. I was genuinely worried this kind of thing might happen for us... mentioned it to the wife. I would've had words with them, and/or gotten a theater employee. we all just payed a ton of money to see a show, not listen to you clowns- have some respect... it's not a concert, it's theater. fortunately this didn't happen. 

out of curiousity- how much are tickets outside of NYC? we were upper mezzanine, middle of the way back- those tickets are still in the $450 range per seat. to sit in the ####### uppermost back part of the theater. I'm sorry- the show is genuinely great, and yadayada market demand- but #### that.

The show was at The Kennedy Center in DC, which is an awesome place to see a show. I saw a great deal (don’t remember where, might have been a deal thru The Kennedy Center) and grabbed them without telling my wife (who really wanted to see the show) I paid about $500 for the pair total and we were in the center about midway back on the middle mezzanine.

We misread our tix and originally went up to the top level and only realized it when the people came to sit in our seats, it was close to the beginning of the show so we had to run down the stairs to get to our better seats!

I just paid ~$130 on StubHub for Chicago.  Upper balcony about 5 rows from the top, but unobstructed view (and not an enormous venue - 1800 seats).  Anything below the balcony was $300+ when I was looking.

 
For some of the non-rap listeners, it probably is even a bit better if you are familiar with that genre as their are several allusions/reference through out the music to famous rap songs.

Probably Burr because he had the best songs in Wait for It and Room Where it Happens.

Musically, I agree Burr has some great songs to work with.  George and Hercules are more in the scene/show-stealing vein as crowd favorites.

My favorite "surprise" was Eliza doing the beat-box for Philip's first rap. :lmao:

Right KG and Herc have lighter supporting roles and don't have to do much heavy lifting.

I thought they did a great job with Burr's character- making him incredibly sympathetic and somewhat pathetic at the same time, and his songs were amazing. 

Really appreciated how much Miranda brought to the women's characters- fully expected background wallpaper out of them and they were both fleshed out and with great songs.

:goodposting: In a show with Jefferson and Hamilton as characters I'm pretty sure Angelica came across as the smartest.

 
I was also stuck by hope small the cast was- expected a much bigger backing group. And re: those guys- also cool how integral they each were to the show, each getting their own moment to sing solos and get featured characters when they weren't just townfolk or soldiers. Just an immaculately crafted show.

 
History buffs (i'm actually more used to convincing "just the facts" types to dig more musicals than vice versa, so this is weird) should check out the story of Lafayette's quest for America. My research for a piece having to do with Freemason black ops of the Revolutionary period, so to speak, uncovered that Ben Franklin and his DickCheney, Silas Deane, were in Metz, France (then capital of the moveable feast which was the circus of secret agency in that era) looking for a mark, or should i say Marquis, to enhance the French position in their struggle when they stumbled upon this eager, incredibly rich & high-born 19yo in military training, who they got drunk and gave Revolutionary Fever over a weekend. Their hysterical attempts to procure a ship for Lafayette's crossing, chased all the way by the secret police of the French throne, took them from Alsace to Spain with young Lafayette constantly blowing their cover with fervent, youthful declamations as his American agents were attempting espionage and resulted in them getting a bad ship with a worse captain who landed them hundreds of miles off course, in a SCarolina swamp which came closer to killing the Marquis than any battle. Of course, there was no greeting party for these lost undercover souls, so Lafayette led like 11 survivors in a forced march all the way to Philadelphia, announcing his heroic quest, like a Monty Python sketch, to any innkeeper along the way who would listen. Great stuff.

Absolutely. It’s a work of art combined with a work of catchy pop. Wife and I saw it in SF last year, we’ve played the sound track probably 75 times in the car on long drives and vacations, our 2 sons (13 and 8) know the soundtrack up, down and backwards (my youngest loves the fact that he can listen to music with profanities in it ;)  ). Just got tickets for all 4 of us to see it when it returns to SF next year. Can’t wait!

Favorite character is either Lafayette/Jefferson or Washington (his powerful voice is undeniable).

Supposedly Ticketmaster is also releasing some tickets for those same months Sunday night. 

It will be interesting to see who replaces Miranda. I'm not a Broadway guy but I imagine a lot of big names - whoever they are - would love the role. Oddly enough, I know the guy (not well) who is currently the understudy so it would be cool if he gets the bump.

Ended up selling all the tickets I got through that Amex sale for a massive haul. Had originally intended on keeping the second pair but our daughter had just been born so we preferred to just cash in. 

As of 10 minutes ago though, I’ll finally be taking my wife to see this for her birthday in about a month. I didn’t realize that tickets were available from the box office directly without needing to buy months and months in advance until I checked randomly just before buying a pair on Stubhub. Still expensive obviously but better than paying secondary market premium. And for NYers, can avoid fees by going directly to the theater. That short walk from my office saved me about $50.

Anyway, just a heads up for anyone still looking to see this. Very excited and can’t wait to surprise her. I’m planning on telling her we’re seeing a different show that she’s not very excited about when I tell her the plan on her actual birthday the week before, and then I’m going to hand her the Hamilton tix at dinner before the show. 

 
I saw it a few years ago and thought it was overrated. I even liked wicked better even though it was very girly.
