Handling rookies that make mistakes.... (1 Viewer)

Disclaimer- being a David Wilson owner I was very disappointed in Coughlins handling of him after the fumble. Wilson is a very emotional kid and they are depending on him alot this year as Bradshaws backup/change of pace. Coughlin has won a superbowl....i haven't... but was his decision not to play him appropriate or not? Will this help or ####### his growth and make him or other rookies more tentative?

This is a case-by-case things with the personality and philosophy of each coach dictating how it will work.

Different coaches will manage it in their own style and probably all will have success doing it the way they do it. Coughlin might doghouse Wilson for 2-3 weeks and bring him back around. A guy like Pete Carrol might take his player out for a milkshake and a fishing trip and reach him that way. These guys have their ways.

How would Coughlin and the Giants look had he kept Wilson in there and he fumbled again. Fumble as a rookie and you are out. Plain and simple. He kept his return duties and to my dismay he was still carrying the ball low and away from his body. He was also running a little reckless and thought a few times "man he is going to fumble again!"
