Handyman help (1 Viewer)

Yeah not sure how a little plywood and glue weighs more than glass
There will be tile as well, which will add to the weight, but the tile isn't going to be heavy, and the table will be better supported by how I plan on bracing the table top.  And the frame itself is sturdy.  If anything, it will be stronger than when it had glass.  Not a big fan of glass tops outside anyways.

I understand.  My point was with what you had to what you are adding is not adding 100 pounds to this.

just don't stand on it.  that will add a lot of weight.  people see a glass table and would never think to stand on it.   now that's its tile, they won't have any reservations and they'll stand on it to get junior's tennis ball out of the gutter.

You are going to want to take it apart to store it. You live in Pittsburgh, yea? Thawing and freezing plywood, with mortar and grout and tile, is a bad idea.

Now this makes sense.

But why not move the whole table?   I mean my glass patio table I can't remove the glass, and it takes 2 of us to put in the garage.  I hate it lol

he could arc weld the tiles down to the plywood bam problemo solvedo take that the thinkin about the box bank bromigos

i think we may be getting a little ahead of ourselves thinking about storage.   we have no idea how this thing is even going to turn out.

I don't know how much tile/mortar/grout weigh but a good rule of thumb for sheet stock such as MDF is roughly 1 pound per 1/4" thick square foot. Meaning a 3/4" x 4' x 8' sheet would be roughly 96 pounds.

I would imagine arc welding is not a skill set he has aquired or access to the tools.  Or he wouldn't have posted with idea in here.

we're talking about arc welding, not rocket surgery.
I'm not arguing the difficulty level of it, but I'd bet Copeman has not used an arc welder.  Maybe I'm wrong, but typically a handyman that has used that skill set before wouldn't be asking another group of guys how he should construct a table.  Maybe I'm wrong.

if you are saying this can not be done with a hammer then i doubt your getrdun qualifications bromigo sorry to be the one to break that to you but i guess take that to the knowledge bank

An arc welder is that thing that powers Iron Man, right? If so, that should probably be at least 4th on the list.
