Chicago Bears' supplemental pick RB Harvey Unga signs six days after draft

USA TODAY

Life moves fast for Harvey Unga.

After working out for 20 NFL teams just two weeks ago, the former Brigham Young running back is now signed and ready for training camp.

After using a seventh-round selection in the NFL's July 15 supplemental draft, the Chicago Bears wasted little time signing BYU's career rushing leader (3,455 yards) to a four-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Perhaps wanting to get Unga into training camp, which opens July 30 at Nazarene University, the Bears quickly finalized the deal with the player some have described as a perfect fit as a power back in the new offensive coordinator Mike Martz's offense.

Unga will have plenty of competition for playing time. In addition to incumbent Matt Forte and free-agent signee Chester Taylor, the Bears have rookie Brandon Minor and second-year man Kahlil Bell on the roster. Unga will give them a total of five RBs in training camp.

I don't trust Martz, so this kid could have value

Look out Forte and Taylor owners
 :coffee:

Unga is a poor fit for any offense. I guess if he can block he can play some on 3rd down, because he can catch. But everything about him in the field is slow. His acceleration, his cuts, his long speed.

I loved him on my fantasy ncaa team, and because I owned him I watched alot of BYU games. His skills just do not translate to the nfl.

:lmao: If he's a perfect fit for Martz's offense then the Bears will have a top 5 pick in 2011.

per chicagobears.com:

Bears have placed rookie RB Harvey Unga (hamstring) on injured reserve.

That was quick and easy....
