Harvin to Bills/ Formerly the Harvin to Hawks & Jets (1 Viewer)

I'm playing for a championship with Harvin on my bench ($3 waivers).

I'm a big fan of holding players. While Harvin hasn't helped me at all, Gordon, Blackmon, Vereen & A. Brown have all done their part to get me to the championship. You take the good with the bad.

The people in this thread that were absolutely certain Harvin would be contributing by now were fools, and the people that were absolutely certain he would not be contributing were fools too.

Drafted him in the 17th round. Held him all year because if I choose him as one of my allowed keepers next year, I'd only lose a 17th round pick for him. I'm in the championship game this week.

Coach Pete Carroll said he won't have an idea on Percy Harvin's Week 16 status until Wednesday.

Harvin did not practice at all last week as he continues to feel pain in his surgically repaired hip. It would be a surprise if he plays anytime before the playoffs. Look for Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate to be Russell Wilson's top-two receivers against the Cardinals Sunday.

I'm in 3 super bowls out of 4 leagues, and still alive for the week 17 super bowl in the other. Used a roster spot on Harvin in all of them :cool:

I can't help but feel sorry for you, not only for your pettiness and obvious anger issues, but clearly your life must be profoundly empty if you're wasting so much energy and emotion debating the merits of a football player with strangers. I held Harvin from weeks 4 to 14. In the championship.

Same, week 5 and then dropped after the only game he was active when announced he had a setback...

Sure I was hoping he would be productive (that's why I held a spot for him!), but my season wasn't relying on that. Championship game Sunday :)

That obviously means Harvin won't play in the regular season finale against the Rams. The Seahawks will aim to get a win and a first-round bye for the playoffs, and then hope for Harvin to play in the Divisional Round. Even that's not a guarantee. Carroll added he has "no idea" when Harvin will practice again.

The funny thing to me is that before the season was over and speculation was rampant that Harvin was going to get traded and Seattle was listed as a possibility, I posted a number of times that I didn't want him because he was injury prone. A number of posters actually convinced me otherwise with a lot of stats and other seemingly sound reasoning, to the point that when the trade was announced I wasn't worried about it. I also realize it's a long term investment that is a pretty crappy return in the first year. That doesn't make the trade a bust at all, yet. It's still bugging the crap out of me this season though.

Russell averaged 19 pass attempts over the last 4 games vs. 24 on the season.

Time to tee off on this. Classic example of statistical analysis gone wrong, imo. The Seahawks won those games by a combined score of 170-43. Wilson was above 100% in qb efficiency rating for three of those games, and at 88% in the game against arizona. That game was a 58-0 rout, and Wilson left midway through the game, after 7 pass attempts. Matt Flynn threw 9 passes as his replacement. The Seahawks held a comfortable lead all game in three of the contests; the only game in which he arguably had to throw was against the Rams, when he was 15-19 for 250 and a TD. I'm very optimistic about the upcoming season, but I don't expect it to mirror those last 4 games.

"That may happen," was Carroll's response when asked if the team was considering a roster move with its injured No. 1 receiver. It would be a bitterly disappointing end to Harvin's lost first season by the Puget Sound, but hardly a surprise. Injured while working out on his own in the offseason, Harvin played 20 snaps in his lone appearance, Week 11. It appears very unlikely that Harvin will be back for the postseason. He's already been ruled out for Week 17.

Heard on NFL Insiders that Schefter said Seattle will NOT place Harvin on IR. The team is still hopeful he can play in the playoffs.

The real test will come tomorrow when Seattle has to make a roster move to get Thurmond on the 53.

Looks like that test came today when Perrish Cox was released to make room for Thurmond.

It's looking like Percy Harvin's season with the Seattle Seahawks never will get off the ground.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Network's "NFL GameDay First" that it's doubtful Harvin will play any time soon and it's looking like he'll end the year on injured reserve, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the injuries.

Harvin's hip still is sore and hasn't improved.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said last week the team could move Harvin to the IR. The team faces the roster decision next week.

Even if Seattle holds out hope -- and doesn't shut down Harvin -- it's doubtful the receiver plays again this season, according to Rapoport.

According to this theory on the Harvin issue is that the 2014 salary is guaranteed if he ends this season on IR. If they cut him in time before next season starts, only his pro-rated signing bonus would be dead salary against the cap for next year. So there's the possibility that they're keeping their option to cut bait open to save whatever they can if they need to.

 
Releasing him would be a very painful end to that trade. Nothing would surprise me at this point, from Harvin coming back to light it up in the playoffs, or to Seattle releasing him in February. Though a Superb Owl win would go a long way to easing the hurt.

There is no way they release him. The picks are already a sunk cost and I'd be surprised if the FO decided the price was too high after just signing him. The talent is there and the money was just agreed to. In order for us to consider releasing him we would need to see him actively not trying to come back or find an injury issue that could be career ending (and we don't want to be on the hook for).

I get that he costs a lot, but there are a few players who are likely on the hook right now as cap casualties (Rice, Miller) or will at least be asked to restructure.

What else could there be for us to consider him for release?

Harvin's injury is one of my great disappointments this year as a football fan. I was truly excited to see how the Seattle offense would continue to evolve with his dynamic talent in the mix.

They have the makings of something special going on over there if he ever comes back healthy.

Seeing as how I drafted him late in 2 keeper leagues, I would love to see him play this year just to see a glimpse of how he plays. I have owned him before in 2011 (he got me to a championship with Gronk with their huge finishes) and 2012, so I have seen him be a top WR when healthy in PPR. It would be nice to see how he gels with Wilson.

Harvin participated in a throwing session with Wilson on Monday. It reportedly went "extremely well" and convinced coach Pete Carroll not to place Harvin on season-ending injured reserve. Harvin is going to practice with the team on Thursday and intends to play next weekend in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. (The Seahawks have a first-round bye.) "He's at a place where he has a chance," Carroll said. "We'll see what happens."

I'm fine with Robert Turbin never returning another kick. Ever. On the other hand, Baldwin and Kearse have both looked good back there. I don't know if risking Harvin on a KO is worth what he was doing to the defense when he was playing WR. Baldwin in particular was wide open on a few plays because of the attention Harvin drew.

I would prefer him to be a decoy that opens up the rest of the offense.

EDIT: Actually, I would prefer him being at full health and kicking ###, but in lieu of that the decoy bit is fine.

Turbin should never have been back there. I don't like Baldwin back there either simply as a matter of insurance with so many WRs injured. Michael back there is intriguing but he doesn't have the speed that Kearse does. Ideally, Jermaine would be back there but, like Baldwin, I get concerned with the WR depth if he's exposed to more hits like that. Moreso now that his ankle (?) is gimpy.

A lot has been made that Harvin had only one catch and one return in his one game. That discounts the effect he had on the O when it wasn't thrown to him. I believe there was a decently long PI called his way on one pass. He had a few good blocks as well and like you said, he drew coverage away from Baldwin and Tate. Neither of which are #1WRs and are usually much more effective when they aren't the main focus.

If Harvin only does what he did in that Minnesota game, the Seattle offense is a TON better, just because of the effect he had on the defense. The field position he brings in special teams can also not be overstated.
