Rotoworld:
Percy Harvin - WR - Jets
ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini said New York wants to make Harvin a "downfield threat."Harvin was used as essentially a pass-catching running back in Seattle, catching balls at or near the line of scrimmage and being asked to make plays himself. The Jets will likely push Harvin down the field more, which should help his fantasy value in the long run. With his role in the offense still unclear, Harvin is a risky fantasy start this week, but he outlook moving forward is a couple shades brighter.

Don't they need to have a halfway decent qb to make anybody a downfield threat? Regardless--I see boom/bust wr3 on a week to week basis with Harvin on the Jets.
Worked OK with Christian ponder.
Umm--are you forgetting that AP was there as well? The threat of that running game helped open things up for Harvin. I would hardly put Chris Ivory and CJ?K anywhere in the same planet as AP
Harvin with Ponder in games where Peterson did not play:
109/1
7/0
104/1
128/1
Pace = 1392yds 12 TDs
You should always extrapolate entire seasons stats based on four games--its very accurate. In fact--you should extrapolate stats from the first four chargers games this season for Eddie Royal--the results would be mind blowing. You can do the same thing for the first four games of the 2013 season from Royal as well--and the numbers would be insane. Harvin is a great talent--but recent history has shown that he's not the same player as he was before. It's possible that his talent is the same--but his durability, mental toughness and frequent recent inconsistency makes him an untrustworthy asset at this point in time. The fact that Geno is a streaky and inconsistent qb at best--playing under a coach that has not been very offensively dynamic--leads me to be skeptical that Harvin will be a week to week consistent downfield threat. I'll believe it when I see it---and I'll believe it when it happens--I'm not going to believe it because of four random games from years ago.
You've moved the goalposts around so much that I don't even know what we're discussing anymore.
I was simply responding to the point that Harvin can't be a downfield threat or consistent fantasy player without a good QB. He's done it before, several times. Statistically, Harvin's WORST two seasons have come when he's had good QB play, while his three best seasons have all come alongside poor QB play.
He's a unique player and I'm not sure that a top end QB looking for a WR running precise timing routes is ideal for him. At least so far, he's benefited from the opposite.
Regardless, there are factors far beyond Geno that will dictate how things work out for Harvin. He's been a stud with QB play that is far worse than Geno, both with and without the help of an elite running game.
