have you ever seen a therapist? (2 Viewers)

Sure, a couple of times over the years. I was really stressed and frustrated while in college. Got some therapy to develop better coping strategies. Later I got therapy after a serious relationship ended with a long-time gf and also while I was in middle of my divorce.

It helped to talk to someone outside of my regular life. For any therapy, in my opinion, it is beneficial to have a goal in mind instead of just "going". In each case, once the goals were met then I stopped sessions.

Not crazy but it helps.

I've seen several--mostly related to stress/anxiety and its negative effect on my interpersonal relationships.

Two were more helpful than others.  A couple were simply useless.

I haven't, but know many who have. I also have a number of friends who are psychologists. Don't get caught up in stigma. You absolutely don't have to be "crazy" in order to benefit from speaking to a mental health professional. If you're even considering it, try it. They're not going to slap a straitjacket on you or capture you with a butterfly net. If you don't like the therapist or think it isn't helping, change therapists or stop going. But as long as you have an open mind, give it a shot. It might prove tremendously helpful.

Between my degree in Chemical Engineering and going to law school I got a Masters in Psych.  One of my professors was fairly young.  She taught a Clinical Psych class.  She looked then very much like Stephaie Szostak looks now.  I saw her for about 6 months, but not as a therapist, as a love toy.  We started going out after I was done with her class.  She was my first and only older woman, though only by 8 years.  She always wanted to keep her stockings and heels on.  I was fine with that.

I've seen many therapists including one who unfortunately is no longer with us but before she passed on she said I was most combative client she ever worked with.

Probably from her days moonlighting as an escort, did she ever look at her watch when you all were together?

i've seen a couple different therapists over the years. if it were covered by insurance, i'd go more often. i got some good insight as to how to handle depression, anxiety, and PTSD. moreover, there's something great about having a stranger listen to all your BS for 50 minutes and not judge it.

mostly this and the beer forum are my therapy

but did see a guy three times because my dad asked me to go along with him. the only benefit i  got from it was the therapist shut my old man down every time he tried to talk.. so, after 35+ years of not getting a word in edgewise it was nice to vent.

non-shtick answer, yes.  throughout my elementary school years into HS and once while in college - same guy.  At that age I'd go into his office, we'd talk about my week for about 15 minutes and then play table tennis for 45 minutes.  I guess it helped, I did get pretty good at Ping-Pong.

In my mid-30s out of the blue I ran into sleep issues - going through all of the different sleep meds (doc prescribed to no avail) I eventually wound up going to some therapist.  Decent dude, turns out the sleep issues were tied to some type of adult ADHD thing (cyclothymia was the term).  After 5 sessions it was going to be out of pocket so I just soldiered on after that - but the 5 sessions were pretty helpful in identifying stressors and coping stuff.
