From a respected poster on extremeskinsSourceHearing he DID kill the first part & was in the middle of the 2nd when he had to take the Browns to the super bowl. It's up to Shanny on whether or not he passed or failed. Had he not had to drop the kids off at the pool, he would have passed.
Jason LaCanforaHaynesworth originally was told that he needed to do two sets of shuttle runs in the allotted time to be cleared for practice. However, that wasn't how it went down at Redskins Park.
Haynesworth completed the first set in plenty of time, and then, as has been the case with the way the Redskins have conducted the test, he was given a several-minute break. Haynesworth went inside to use the bathroom, according to the source, and when he returned to the field, he was told he took too long and therefore had to start over.
Haynesworth again finished the next set of shuttles (his second) in ample time, but he couldn't complete the third and final set, and thus was told he failed the test and couldn't practice.
I think it's just one more way of Shanahan showing who is in control. Zorn was never running the team. It's more of a change of culture around the team than anything else.I'm probably in the minority here, but I think Shanny is being an ###. The guy showed up and was the only one asked to do the conditioning workout. Then, when he did it, he said he did it wrong. I don't completely agree on how Haynesworth has handled himself in this situation, but the Redskins handleing of it is just as bad. This is typical Shanahan, if they dont like the guy or don't want him there, then trade/release him.
Shanny was famous for holding his vets out of practices while in Denver. He just found a creative way to save one of his vets some of the torture of training camp while being able to show his authority at the same time. This will be a non story in the very near future.I think Shanny just wanted to see how Haynesworth would react to some adversity. It's great that he showed up (you know considering he's already cashed about 30 mil) and by all accounts he looks to be in pretty good shape. He seemed to go through the first set of sprints well and then used the bathroom during his break. Did he go beyond the time they generally give between sets? Your guess is as good as mine. But it looks like Shanny took advantage of that to make a point. Seems like Big Al took it in stride and Shanny said his response was "first class all the way."The important thing is where we go from here. Haynesworth showed up 35 lbs lighter and in decent shape, Shanny made his point, now let's get it over with and play football. Hopefully he passes the damn test in the morning and he gets out on the field tomorrow. I'll be there hoping to see #92 in practice.
ESPN now reporting this too. JUnofficial reports from beat reporters are that he failed the conditioning test again this morning.
This is essentially true actually in the sense that it's being done for effect. Haynesworth's being asked to demonstrate his conditioning in drills that no one else had to do, and frankly I doubt most could do. Shanny's trying to "be the boss", and in my opinion is overdoing it a tad. We'll see how this goes. It's a motivational ploy.
And he can't really claim that he failed yesterday but passed today. That would basically be saying, "His conditioning wasn't good yesterday, but after we worked with him for a few hours, he's in tip-tip shape!" They pretty much have to take a "He's progressing every day" approach in order to not come off as just being spiteful on day one. I mean, yeah, Shanahan is probably mostly being spiteful, but I doubt he wants to give off that impression. This is essentially true actually in the sense that it's being done for effect. Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he will allow DT Albert Haynesworth to retake a conditioning test on Friday, but warned it would be days before Haynesworth is cleared to practice with his teammates.
Haynesworth failed a conditioning test Shanahan administered on Thursday. He was the only player subjected to the test.
"The bottom line is that we're going to get him in shape," Shanahan said. "If he's going to be on our football team and he's going to play at the level we'd like him to play, then he's got to be in great football shape. Hopefully he'll get it done tomorrow, but it may take two or three days, it may take a week. I really don't know.
Relations between Shanahan and Haynesworth have been tense since the player skipped a mandatory minicamp in June. Shanahan said he was displeased because Haynesworth had accepted a $21 million bonus from the Redskins in April.
But Shanahan did not address whether there was a confrontation between the two after he told Haynesworth he had flunked the test.
"Albert was first class all the way," said Shanahan, who declined to reveal specifics of the conversation. "He understood where I was coming from and understands that he's got to be at a certain level to go out on the field and practice with the rest of that football team. If he gets there then he'll be with us and if he doesn't, he won't."

I would also suspect that this time is being used to bring him up to speed on the scheme, which is far more bothersome than some (fictional?) conditioning test problems. Actually, do you suppose that this is Shanny's way of buying him time to learn the scheme sufficiently to actually practice it?I like how Haynesworth is handling it also --- not talking to the press and doing the required conditioning exercises. By all accounts so far he looks in good shape, and it's a matter of building up his endurance to whatever point will satisfy Shanahan.
I'm not sure why they would, since there are no reports from Redskins camp that he's doing anything detrimental. Thursday and Friday he worked with coaches on drills and on assignments. Saturday he was on the field with the team watching the defense practice, asking things of players and coaches, and taking notes. The report this morning is that he wants to rest his swollen knee one more day (today) and take and pass the conditioning test Monday. He's not mouthing off in the press. There have been no reports from the front office or other players that he's doing anything wrong.Taken another day off...I just cannot believe this is happening. Can the team just suspend him for 4 games for conduct detrimental to the team and let him rot?
Yeah, I don't see how this story is as big as the headline. People are trying to portray this as a Haynesworth-Shanny showdown, and while there are elements of that the overall picture doesn't come across like that at all.I'm not sure why they would, since there are no reports from Redskins camp that he's doing anything detrimental. Chris Russell, Redskin beat reporter for ESPN980.shanahan says Haynesworth knee is still "sore & irritated, no change from yesterday.
LinkHaynesworth comes off the field after 30 mins of work. Is asked when his next test will be. "Whenever Mike says."
