Albert Haynesworth will be a Washington Redskin

Remember back on December 23rd when I told you guys that Scott Pioli would be the GM for the Kansas City Chiefs before anyone had it? I got it from a very well-connected league source. That source is talking (actually texting) again.

This time around he tells me that the Washington Redskins will break the bank to sign Albert Haynesworth. The Titans could come over the top of the Redskins deal as well, but my guess is that the Redskins will let Haynesworth get the best offer possible from the Titans and then "better deal" it.

My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and Dan Snyder gets what he wants. As a Texan fan, I would really be devastated to see Haynesworth leave the division ... only, no I wouldn't. Beat it, Haynesworth.

This doesn't do much for Haynesworth's value one way or the other. If he's motivated and can stay healthy, he's talented enough to make plays regardless of the line philosophy. It certainly won't hurt the Washington DEs, who were stuck in a read-and-react style of play last season, to have a big body drawing double teams. I still think it's unlikely that Jason Taylor returns to his peak value unless there are reports that he's re-dedicated himself to football this offseason. Age and injuries are too much to overcome if he's not interested in returning to form. Andre Carter could recover some value, but the scheme still hurts his upside a bit. Certainly won't hurt London Fletcher's ability to get to the ball quickly.

Losing Haynesworth is a blow to the Titan defense, but they've still got a nice rotation of defensive linemen and, should Jason Jones continue to develop, opposing offensive lines should still have trouble focusing on any one lineman. Small bumps to the linebackers if you think their tackle opportunity increases without the big tackle.

Carter should get a boost in sacks. Taylor definitely should too (they are expected to keep him, though that's not a done deal yet) - I think Taylor's bad showing was more to do with injuries for the first time in his career than from being washed up, but we'll see. I'll bet Taylor and Carter will rotate to rush from the RDE position more. No change to the LB corps - Fletcher will continue to be a tackle machine, and a good DT up front certainly won't hurt that. McIntosh has his own issues but probably will play to his 2007 level if he's healthy. We don't know who the Sam will be.

His chances definitely improve. I would think the same holds true for Bulluck.
