Just wait, it gets better.Anyone else in the middle of reading book 3? Just came accross some good stuff, this book has been amazing!
I got bored one day and decided I wanted to revisit SOS, so I cracked it open to page ~770 and two nights later I'm at ~1100. Such an addicting book, the last third is impossible to put down.Anyone else in the middle of reading book 3? Just came accross some good stuff, this book has been amazing!
They're inconsiderate, therefore that gives license to us to be inconsiderate?People make offensive comments about race, politics, religion, sex and violence in other threads with no concequences, but in here we get warned twice by admin over TV non-spoilers?A little perspective would be nice.

I'm at like 500 and it's impossible to put down. I know now that I can fit the softback book into my khakis to bring into the bathroom. I already apologized in the other thread. But the stuff in here is just teasing about a TV show. Some of the personal attacks that take place in other threads are vicious and mean yet admins ignore those. So my comment was directed at the admins, letting them know that there's a lot more housecleaning that needs to be done on more serious offenses before they come running in here posting warnings about random made up story lines. They're inconsiderate, therefore that gives license to us to be inconsiderate?People make offensive comments about race, politics, religion, sex and violence in other threads with no concequences, but in here we get warned twice by admin over TV non-spoilers?A little perspective would be nice.

Oh wow. I have a theory that fits this.DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS! MANY MANY BIG SPOILERS...Found this on the interwebs:This is the rarest of spoilers, insofar as it seems to apply both to the TV show and the as yet unpublished books. Theon Greyjoy actor Alfie Allen reveals he asked George R.R. Martin the answer to one of the saga's biggest unsolved mysteries, and his answer certainly drops some potentially massive clues:When Brandon Stark (Eddard's Brother) goes to the Red Keep and demands that Rhaegar 'come out to die' it's because Rhaegar has 'kidnapped' Lyanna. And there's an assertion/assumption scattered through the book that Rhaegar 'raped' her. The obvious path from there is Lyanna got pregnant when Rhaegar raped her, Jon is their son, and Brandon Stark was killed when he went to avenge his sister. Which started the rebellion. But...What if it was Brandon Stark that got Lyanna pregnant and Rhaegar 'rescued' her? Incest is fairly common in Westeros and Brandon was supposedly quite rash. That would make the Starks responsible for the war, and would help explain why Aerys called Brandon and all his supporters to the Keep and killed them. It would also make Jon the son of his Uncle Brandon and Aunt Lyanna, and give Eddard even MORE reason to pursue Lyanna to the Tower of Joy where he and his friends defeated the Kingsguard and took the infant with them afterwards to be raised as Eddard's *******?
lmaowow, what a CF this thread has turned into. it would make little baby Aegon cry.

This is false. There is no more serious offense than posting fake spoilers without using spoiler tags. As someone who is just started the second book. I understand that coming into this thread might ruin some this. I think everyone does their best to use spoiler tags. And I think the guys messing around are sincere that they didn't think it was a big deal and wont mess around anymore. I acceptyou their aplogies.I say we move on. Working on gathering more evidence to support my hypothesis that Hodor is also Howland Reed, Azor Ahai and King of the Others.
was anything but a fake spoiler? You'll like the whitewalkers when Jon leads an army of them into King's Landing.
How the hell could anyone believe that this

We've had a woman give birth to a red mist that proceeded to kill a king and have another woman raising dragons. Yeah, no way that could happen! It was a red mist? How the hell could anyone believe that this

Everybody take a shot of some shade of the evening and calm down.

I don't know but I picked up the first book the other day and am about halfway through it so far. I notice way more details about the show now that I've read some. Most of the dialog is exactly the same... but some of the descriptions don't fit the show (horse-faced Arya) so I like going back for all that.Just ordered the first 4 booksHaving watched on TV the past 2 seasons, I'm not sure i'll have the patience to read those. I'm thinking of jumping right in to book 3 and 4 then maybe circle back and read 1 and 2. would that be a bad idea? would i just be lost in book 3 with only having the tv show details from 1 & 2?
Not a good idea at all. Unless you're one of those guys who don't read at all, go through the books. A ton of stuff will make more sense and you'll get so much more of a better view of the world it takes place in by reading. I have read the series once and re-read the 1st book after season 1 and just started the 2nd book again after season 2. There are so many characters that are combined, eliminated, gone around, events condensed etc... that it's absolutely not only worth it, but a shame if you don't read them. It took me most of season 1 to get over the book vs TV show differences, but now that I have them separated in my mind as somewhat separate entities, I enjoy both of them so much more. It's great to see whose characters are so strong in my head that I keep MY version of them in my imagination (Tyrion, because he's so grotesque in the book he reminds me of the dwarf in Don't Look Back) especially with a red cloak and see who I liked better in the show and therefore they're in my head when I read. Plus plenty are an amalgam of both (like the Hound). i emphatically say, start with book 1, you'll learn tons and his style is very readable. If you're a moderate reader you can do each book in a week or two (just on the jon), then you have 8 months to get the other books down.Just ordered the first 4 books![]()

Like I said, that's what I did. I'm about 100 pages into book 2 and so much is different. The character of Varys, Littlefinger, the Hound, etc... I think the show keeps mostly to the theme of the books (Roz aside, but I like her nekkid so I''m not complaining) that int's interesting to see who they borrow from and who they give it to to make the visual oriented show.I don't know but I picked up the first book the other day and am about halfway through it so far. I used to read a fair amount, just havent had time for the past...oh 7-8 years. I just know i'm going to be chomping at the bit to get some questions answered in book 3will give it a go starting from book 1
But read it backwards.Yes. Don't start with book three. Start with book one.
I've been looking at some fan renditions of map of the world and was wondering if there were supposed to be other continents that we don't know about? Because if the world is round, with Westeros and Essos being the 2 only continents...
wouldn't it make sense for Victarion to sail west from the Iron Islands towards (Jade Sea/Straits of Quarth) Mereen instead of looping east around Dorne and Valyria to get to Slaver's Bay?
There's three seasons' worth of content left, assuming they keep with one book per season, so if the series goes 7 books that gives him a 5 year window for 2 more books. Somewhere between 7-10 books was the plan, right?HBO has an interview with GRRM. Says he hopes to finish the story about the same time as the TV Show catches up to him.

right, and the producers have said to do storm of swords correctly, they want 2 TV seasons for that book alone. There's three seasons' worth of content left, assuming they keep with one book per season, so if the series goes 7 books that gives him a 5 year window for 2 more books. 3 was the plan, then 5(with a time gap between 3 and 4), then 6(with no gap), then 7 (when 4 didn't move the story along any). I'm guessing it will need at least 8 to finish the story right, but likely 9 or 10 seeing how Martin gets lost on somewhat irrelevant tangents that seem to take up half a book. I hope he doesn't try to squeeze it all into the next 2 books just to get it done, because it would likely be a pretty terrible ending to what is currently a good series. There's three seasons' worth of content left, assuming they keep with one book per season, so if the series goes 7 books that gives him a 5 year window for 2 more books. I do not like his "we'll see" line there at all. Why does he need to do another Dunk and Egg thing? I can't even find that stuff.
