HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (2 Viewers)

Littlefinger was a little hamfisted at the small council meeting. It just didn't come off as anything but Greek chorus to me. He might as well as looked into the camera when explaining the Tully Sigil and the Mountain.
Just like the Ned discovery....they don't seem to confident in the viewers ability to put together major clues.

Is there an episode next week, or are they taking the week off due to holiday like they sometimes do? I know there is/was a new episode on HBO go, but was wondering if that was part of the reason for doing it.

They were promoting hbogo last night by being able to see episode 7 - next week's episode - a week early by signing up this week. That would leave me under the impression that there will be a Memorial Day weekend new episode.

tried to jump in and watch a recent episode. Looked interested, but I had absolutely no idea what was going on. I don't think I've ever felt that lost watching a show.
It's not a show where you can do that. Go back and watch the first several episodes on Demand first. It's well worth it.
just saw the last 30 minutes of the one where the silver haired fairy acting guy
got his crown
that was pretty sweet

This show is awesome. That's all I have to say. I'm going to be on Siesta Key next weekend and I'm already looking to see if the hotel has HBO so I can watch this in real-time while on vacation. :bag:

It does. It re-airs on Sundays at 11 PM, right? I doubt I'll be back for the night by 9, but 11 is a possibility.

Kid playing Joffrey has been money. Great seen last night with Sansa (loved when he kept calling her is Lady - ouch).

I was a bit confused by this scene. He was full of ####, right? If so, what is the point? His family has basically already declared war on hers (his "uncle", who is probably actually his father, just speared her dad)

As far as most people know, Joffrey is a Baratheon, not a Lannister.

A few episodes ago there was a scene with Cersei & Joffrey talking. Cersei tells him he has to be nice to Sansa for political reasons. I thought they may work in his apology earlier than they did. Sansa's a pretty big prize for anyone to marry. Don't wanna say too much more.

Definitely all BS, what better time to cause strife in the Stark household. Lannister's trying to suck her in.

 For those that might have already forgotten, Lady was the name of her wolf that her father had to kill because of Joffrey.

Good show. Is it faithful to the source literature? Better, worse, same, can't really compare?

My wife does snicker at some of the over the top acting every now and then. Can't say I disagree.

Thought the Dany scenes were the strength of last night....especially when she rises after eating the heart.

Try watching Camelot on Starz, Now THAT is overacting

Pretty f'n cold-blooded when her punk-### brother was begging her to stop the crowning and she just stared at him.
Well, by that time we already knew who the dragon was.
Is it me or does Dany seem almost possessed and kind of in a fog since the wedding (and maybe the whole time actually)

Agree, but my wife, who has not read the books, was still confused by that scene.

She is definitely on a mission.I haven't finished Book 1 yet - she's got some serious pressure to produce a boy - what happens if she pops out a girl?Oh and BTW . . . this show is fantastic. The flash from the departing prostitute was a nice touch.

I think it's just a way to show she's slowly coming to grips with who she really is. She's vying with Tyrion as my favorite character.

I think it's pretty close, though I'm sure others will disagree. Some of the characters are portrayed differently than I imagined them, but I think some of that is me - I'm looking back from the perspective of 4 books and I'm sure that's coloring my impressions.I also think that part of some readers' frustrations is that the release of information is handled differently on the show than in the books (& some of THAT is also due to hindsight but it's hard to un-know something once you've learned it). It doesn't bother me that much because, with the lack of POV structure in the books, the show's creators have to not lose non-readers and so have to organize things in a different manner. We can't see inside of characters' minds as we can in the books. On the whole, I think they've done a fantastic job with the adaptation. The casting has been about as good as one could hope for with special shoutouts to Ned, Jaime, Arya, Dany, Bran, Varys, and Littlefinger.

thoughts from this ep:

- "let me see it one more time!" :pickle:

- who was the guy who volunteered as Tyrion's champion?

- why wasn't Bran's wolf out with him when he went riding? seemed like he could have used the protection.

- Dany is a bad ###. they are setting her up for big things. and I loved the *clunk* when her brother hit the floor.

- the opening title sequence of this show is the best I've ever seen. usually I fast forward through the opening of most shows, but I watch this one every time.

Bronn is the guy's name who fights for Tyrion. He was at the inn when Catelyn arrests Tyrion and was also the guy who kicked the most butt when the mountain clan attacked Cat's troop on the way to the Eyrie.Bran's wolf was with him in the book and probably the single biggest complaint I've seen on various MBs today was the wolf not being there when he was attacked.

I think he was one of the escorts who fought off the hill people last week and then joked with Tyrion about having a woman after a fight.

Well, he had pretty well demonstrated at that point that he was more than willing to sacrifice her life (and that of her unborn child) in order to get what he wanted. And since she knew that he wasn't the dragon, there wasn't much reason for her to intervene at that point.

Summer did most of the damage IIRC.

The thing with the source material is you get a ton of internal dialogue and it is told from specific character's POV. So it is quite different. The events are always filtered through the eyes of particular POV in the books.

Except Morgana or whatever her name is has such "#### me" eyes. The only redeeming quality I could find.

Still, even though he was a ####, it's still her brother. :lol:Seriously, though, this is the one thing I might be a touch unclear on. I know that the Targarkxykjyhfians were the ones who once commanded the dragons, and that the eggs seem to be flourishing with the Khaleesi, but what do you/they mean by "I am the dragon", "we know who IS the dragon," etc?

I was wondering where Bran's wolf was as well. I thoght he was going to take out the Wildling, not Greyjoy.

Is Jon Arryn's son name Robert or Robin??

Dany is hot.

One thing to keep in mind throughout the series is that Martin makes the symbols of each house be how they identify themselves to a point that it's kinda silly, actually. So the symbol for House Targaryen is the 3-headed dragon. So of course all the Targaryens think that they themselves are dragons just as the Lannisters think of themselves as lions. In the Targaryen case, there's a little more to it that's slowly developing.
That's what I was driving at, based on the whole scene with the hot egg in this episode and Dany's Superman-like resistance to the heat. I just didn't know if I'd missed something prior to this that would have explained this remarkable "power" and why the putz who got crowned seemed to think he somehow possessed some power of his own (if he did and wasn't just relating to his symbol).

I'm not the right person for in depth analysis. All I'm going on is Dany's brother claiming he was the dragon up until last night. But slowly Dany was showing that of the two she was really the strong one. And the when she didn't get burned by the egg I figured she was the dragon.

No, you didn't miss anything. They, just like everyone else, think that their symbol = them.
OK, cool - thanks.
