HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (2 Viewers)

Yes, that was me agreeing with the point about the whole story (if he ever does finish it). It's just offensive to me as a reader that I'm paying for half-baked material in the meantime, and I'm not sure I'll actually buy book 6 when it comes out 3-4 years from now.
right...
Nowhere did I say that I'm not going to read it. Just not planning on spending money on it.
:goodposting: I haven't spent any money on any of them either. I enjoyed the series so far as a whole.

Ah, an optimist ;)

Is Ramsey Bolton being cast for season 3?

Which of the two major events of Swords do we think will be in season 3 and season 4? Or will they put both in 4?

Mance Rayder is one of the worst names I've run into in a book in a while. I sort of cringe every time I read it. Come on George, you can do better.

He was named by the Night's Watch and his parents were raiders. It is like a regional ******* name.Kettleblack is the worst btw.

My guess is the Red Wedding will be episode 9 of 10 in season 3. Joffrey's Wedding would mirror that as episode 9 of season 4 although that one would be tougher to fit all the fallout into 1 last episode before the break. It would be the same approach as in season 1 & 2 with the major events of the battle of blackthorn bay & the beheading in episodes 9 of the previous seasons.Either way, I imagine once they announce the episode titles for season 3, we will know for certain.

Robb was married at the end of season 2, right? I think the Red Wedding to kick off Season 3 Ep. 1 would be awesome. And end the season with Joffrey dying.

Yeah, I could never keep those straight. I remember wanting Jaime to facepunch the one when they were introducing themselves to him.

Wasn't Tyrion's crossbow shot to Tywin at the end of Book 3? I would think that Joffrey's wedding would be somewhere in the middle, then they end the season with Tyrion slipping into the tunnels after looking at the chaos with Tywin and Shae dead in the room behind him. It's a perfect way to end the season on an "Oh, ####!" moment and leave the viewers chomping at the bit to find out what happens and how the world gets flipped.
Edit to add:

And in my perfect version, they would play "The Rains of Castamere" over the credits again -- for dramatic effect.

The Red Wedding was not Robb's wedding. It was Cat's brother Edmure's wedding. Mainly caused by Robb not marrying one of Lord Frey's daughters/granddaughters

It would have been pretty cool if HBO knew they were going to get this guy to play Mance and had him at the feast that Ned threw for Robert when he came to Winterfall.

Right. I don't think the Tulley-Frey wedding would fit with the chronology of the story, but it'd still be a cool way to start off a season.

The more I think about it .....

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS

Joffrey's wedding will be this season. I think they already pushed his disregard if Sansa in favor if Margery up. Robb is too well liked, they want another season of a strong stark. All the fully stuff starts this season, the red wedding next season. Tyrion is awaiting trial etc next season with the red wedding happening and Tyrion killing Tywin and running off in the last episode of season 4.

Finished book 3 just recently and hoooooo-weeeee is that good reading! :excited:

 about reading 4 and 5 just yet. The stories are so good right now I don't want to be disappointed.

from what I understand seasons 3 and 4 will come largely from book 3, but not completely

I think there are three potential climaxes: Wildings attack/surrender at the wall; Red Wedding; and, Joffrey's wedding/death. I would expect season 3 to end with the capture of Mance Rayder (also we'll probably see Daenerys get her unsullied at the end of season 3). Then in season 4 we'll see an early climax of the Red Wedding, and ended with Joffrey's wedding/tywin's death/Tyrion's escape.

I'm looking forward to the Arya/Hound story. GRRM did a good job of crafting that uneasy relationship.

The last three chapters of book three were- Tyrion kills Tywin and Shae- Littlefinger kills Lysa (and reveals that Lysa, not the Lannisters, killed Jon Arryn)- Catlyn returns from the deadThat's a pretty serious combo of "Oh ####!" moments to close out the season.
(spoilers are through the end of book 3, btw)

Like the actor....just seems older than I thought Mance would be.
I agree. I also imagined Mance to be better looking.
I think the age is about right, given that ... (minor spoiler, don't remember if it was mentioned in the TV show)
... he was part of the Night's Watch before going over the wall.
It would have been pretty cool if HBO knew they were going to get this guy to play Mance and had him at the feast that Ned threw for Robert when he came to Winterfall.
That would have been a nice touch.
(same minor spoiler as above, just don't remember if it was in the TV show)
Of course, if he was at the feast and happened to be recognized, Ned would have had to chop his head off as a deserter.

#2 is a HUGE one that ties together much of Game of Thrones.

#2 is a HUGE one that ties together much of Game of Thrones.Isn't the third book supposed the be two seasons?...If so, the thing that caused the third thing in that spoiler list should prolly be the end for the third TV season....with the third thing being the final thing at the end of the 4th season.

Is this the Game of Thrones official tv show thread? We just watched first 3 episodes of season 1. Will finish season tomorrow. Haven't read any if the thread, just wanted to know if this is the one.

i burned through books 1-3 in no time at all...hit book 4 and screeeeeeeeeeeeech. Made it through the first ~1/4 and cant even bring myself to pick it up most of the timeprepare to be disappointed

Books 4 and 5 got horrible reviews on amazon. :(
Books 4 and 5 are not as amazing as the first three, but they are still good and definitely worth reading.
I agree with Vrana. A lot of the reviewers were upset about the length of time between books as well, particularly since they were originally supposed to be the "same" book, and so 1/2 of book 5 should have been finished (in theory) when book 4 came out. They read MUCH better when you can read them back to back without a 5 year gap in between.
:goodposting: There's bloat in both, but when/if the series is done and people are reading the series front-to-back it won't matter near as much.
All well and good, but asking people to pay for unfinished stories that won't be tied up for another 5 years is a slap to the face. The argument that it will read better when it's finished isn't a ringing endorsement of the individual installments. Personally, I thought book 4 was decent, but barely advanced the plot in what's supposed to be a 7 book series. Book 5 was crap.
We can agree to disagree about book 5 (which I thought was full of fat, but had Martin's best writing to date). But you make my point for me - years from now, people won't be "paying for unfinished stories", they'll be able to plow through the entire story. Fans now probably feel like Tolkien's did in 1953 when FOTR came out.
Could also be similar to when the Empire Strikes Back came out. Of the first 3 movies that one did the worst in initial box office. It wasn't till the trilogy was complete, that Empire was widely viewed as the best of that trilogy.

Just finished reading book III for the second time. I'm not reading book 4 again(will likely skim a bit), starting book 5 for the first time now. . . . . :banned:

Wasn't my experience. I'm like 85-90% through book 5 now. 4 wasn't GREAT, but it had some cool things happen. I think people don't like it because there's absolutely no Tyrion or Danny... very little of Jon Snow too. It'll always be the weakest link because of that, and I feel sorry for the people that waited so many years to be deprived of the best story-lines... but it was enjoyable enough for me. Will be interesting to see how HBO treats it for the show. I can't imagine them abandoning those characters for a whole season after the WHOA! events concluding Storm of Swords.

So they let Dinklage keep his nose, eh? I'm outraged!
Maybe not. They could put a little green end cap on his nose and so some cgi on it. That way he wouldn't have to have green zinc oxide on his shnoz all day.
Rob looks like he might've been hanging out with Val Kilmer lately.

And Thiros of Myr and his flaming sword!

Umm, that was Beric, when they captured Sandor, and he requests his trial by battle
