HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (2 Viewers)

Looks like this season will go out with the trial by combat, then Stannis arriving at the wall, then Bran meeting the green seer.

All next season I imagine they'll draw out Bran's training in the cave while we get loads of Dany whining in Mereen, Arya training in Bravoos, and Tyrion traveling to Dany. Oh, and Brienne wandering around Westeros as well.

ETA: Season 5 ends with Jon getting stabbed? Hmmmm....

By then I pray Martin releases Winds of Winter.
He won't.

Lots of flights/travel coming up for me, so Re-reading the series starting from Book 1 if anyone wants me to specifically keep my eyes out for anything they are fuzzy on and need a refresher.

Yeah, no chance. We are looking at 2016 for the new book in all likelihood

There's still a lot to cover. They also have to really delve into the Ironborn unless they jump to Victarion showing up in Mereen and they just tell the viewers "Oh yeah BTW, there's this guy too."

I just reread with a class, and the thing that I noticed was how Martin beats you over the head with like 10 clues that Jon Snow is Rhaegar and Lyanna's son. You don't see it the first time through, but after reading all five books, it seems like he's practically screaming it at you.

I just rewatched the last episode. You definitely notice the gem from Sansa's necklace missing after Grama Tyrell plays with her hair. Then the camera pans out and in the distance you see Grandma Tyrell walking past the royal table and hear an audible *CLINK* as she passes Joffery's cup. They amplified the sound so you'd know it was her.

Well done.

Isn't it Margery who drops it? Lots of time passes between thorns getting the jewel from Sansa and the death.

Nope. Fly sack is right, it's very noticeable if you know what you are looking for.

Right after you hear the 'clink' a minstrel starts singing "Rains of Castamere". Some time passes, but Joffery drinks from his goblet before dumping it on Tyrion's head. You see a shot of Olenna in the background as Joff is dumping the wine and she has a look of shock - which is either surprise at what happening or more likely disbelief that the poison is being poured out.

I gotta stay out of that other thread. Too much temptation for evil mischief.
probably already posted too much
Yea, that should be deleted. Not cool. Let them enjoy things for the first time.
I don't see the need to go in there and ruin stuff for people who haven't read the books. Just let them enjoy it. Who cares if they are getting stuff wrong and mixed up?
Terrible.

 The cup falls on the floor after that.

I thought they made it obvious that he took a drink and was fine, put the cup down, then picked it back up, drank and choked. This would imply Margery did it when he put the cup down.

So now that it got spoiled in the non-book thread, I might as well comment here. I rewatched the scene when Lady Olenna spoke to Sansa and took the gem. I guess that's what the screencap was. I did hear what sounded like a clink as she passed the table. I guess my suspicions of Dontos were accurate. It's funny because when they showed him in the previews from the last episode I was wondering why. It seemed like such a throw away scene from the first episode but it just goes to show there are no throw away scenes as they've shown throughout the series.

You can watch the whole scene here.

Safe to say, the way it was shot, there are not any visual clues from when Margary puts it down to when Tyrion carries it back to Joffrey. It even seems a bit absurd that the Queen of Thorns would be nimble enough to get it into the cup with how far away she is sitting, even when backs are turned and attention is all on Joffrey talking to Tyrion.

That said, Martin's interview posted by Redwes25 makes it pretty clear.

Edit to add:

A re-read of that interview makes me think it is not that clear:

In the books — and I make no promises, because I have two more books to write, and I may have more surprises to reveal — the conclusion that the careful reader draws is that Joffrey was killed by the Queen of Thorns
That actually makes me think it was not her. He crafted it so that the reader would draw that conclusion. Surprises to come.

I have no clue what they'll do with Bran next year after reading what they seem to have planned for the 4/27/14 episode.

Correct me if I'm wrong...this is the shelter they find, start the fire and all of the walkers come and they end up in the cave under the tree?
And the title of the 6/15 episode makes me think they finish the season in the cave with the children of the forest. Not much in the books for Bran & co after that right now.
Other than Bran, apparently, is going to turn into a tree.
I'm pretty sure that I'm in the minority, but I really like that "ending" for him. He'll be a sort of demi-god (7 old gods or whatever). He'll have honed his warg powers to an elite level and use Summer to lead a wolf army to rip people's throats out.

I wonder what's in store for Brienne. It seems like her character has no direction or usefulness at this point but I'm sure that will change.
You know nothing, TV thread.

Why do you get off on ruining this for others? Some of you guys are like middle schoolers.
I didn't, chief. Just talked about the show. A spoiler would be me revealing Littlefinger's involvement or how Ser Dontos is involved. All I did was point out observations from the show. Those people over there are INSANELY prickly.

Sad, cuz I really liked her character paired with Jaime. But they both get boring.
Really? I think Jaimee gets a ton more interesting after -

1. losing his hand

2. influence of Brienne

Their story is one of the things I'm really looking forward to in the next book. I suspect they'll have to go find Sansa and deliver her to Winterfell or perhaps Lady Stoneheart. But this is Martin we're talking about. Jaimee will probably just get his head cut off.

flysack - You only noticed that because you knew it was going to happen. That's the whole point.
Did I? Thanks for telling me that. Funny how I didn't notice the first time around.

ETA: In fact, there was some debate in here among the Godly Book Readers about who did the deed. Even WE DIDN'T KNOW.

So I rewatched the episode to see how it went down in the show.

You're welcome.
You're an effing moron.
Why are you having a spaz attack over this? It's bizarre.
I'm having a spaz attack? :lmao:

Dude, you're the one who came over here to whine. I answered. Sorry.

How do the the jabrones in the TV thread not see that the cup is basically at the Tyrell table, right in front of the Queen of Thorns for the entire pie cutting scene?

1) It wasn't poisoned before as Joffery dumped it on Tyrions head......and Tyrion would have died if inadvertanly tasted some of it (which he claimed to "good vintage")

Christ they frame The QoT watching Tyrion pick the cup up and watching Joffery drink it.

I sure wouldn't want any of those clowns in that thread trying to solve my murder.

First time dealing with the 'sack?
Yeah. I'll have to update my notebook to never question his elite television watching abilities.

I actually thought he'd be the next to go. No one seems to want him, everyone hates him and he doesnt have his sword hand. If he does venture out to save Sansa I expect him to die

Am I supposed to quote part of this in a zany effort to the get the last word in and appear right?
