Wow what a scene. Gruesome as I remember it. Of course I read that scene, what 10 years ago now or something like that?

Missandei is a damn near perfect looking woman, good lord. This series definitely finds smoking women to be naked.

I wonder where the Grey Worm story line is going. I don't recall that from the books at all but it's been a long time.

thats my only (albeit small) gripe about this show. I dont see where this angle is going (from the book standpoint) and is only taking screen time from the other awesome scenes.

They need to fill space or they'll pass GRRM right by.

Did the mountain crush his skull in the book too? I forget.

I think he just pounded his face in. The book Viper comes across as a bit more arrogant tha the TV Viper as in the book, IIRC...he stands above The Mountain, straddling him and asking him. You get the real sense that the TV Viper desperately didn't want him to die until he told him.

I think Stonehearts the last scene of Ep. 10.....either with The Brotherhood offing Lame Lothar Frey or nabbing Brienne. They might give a small pop to Dorne; seeing as that story will be in Season 5. I have to figure they have to kill Balon as well....or else they're punting on the whole Greyjoy storyline.

Wasn't Euron Greyjoy cast this season? Thought I read that before the season started.

My guess is the final scene is either Brienne captured and revealing Lady Stoneheart or its Bran finding the children of the forest.

Also could see:

-Stannis offering to legitimize Jon Snow

-Lord Commander chosen (althought I think that will be early next season)

-the goatherder bringing the bones of his child instead of goats (already set this up)

IIRC it was sort of assumed several times, and then referred to later as The Mountain bellows in pain as he's "dying".

I didn't love how they did the Moat Cailin thing. In the books, the kingsmoot has already taken place and the ironborn holding Moat Cailin are dudes that Victarion left behind to hold it.

After the kingsmoot these dudes are basically abandoned because Euron wins and he has Victarion headed to Slaver's Bay. Meanwhile the crannogmen are there harrying the three towers, one of which has gone full cannibal and the ironmen are drinking ale because the water is bad, etc. These are some cool details that would have made those seens more interesting I think. They did make Ralf Kenning look sick as hell, but didn't really explain it all that well. Also Theon puts Ralf out of his misery in the book and one of the Codd's gets an axe to the dome.

We find out before the fight - I believe that Oberyn tells Tyrion not to touch the blade of the spear.

Fantastic episode, although I seem to remember Oberyn being pummeled to death (rather than squashed) in the novel. Man, that was tough to watch.

I don't like how they're setting up the Hound's downfall. He's been a way more likable character in the show than in the novel, and we're seeing him go out with a whimper, ("gee, that looks infected, you should've let me burn it.") Still two more episodes left, but I've been somewhat disappointed at the way he's getting phased out so far. Maybe HBO isn't wanting to kill off another charismatic character so soon...

Something else I just realized: both Clegane brothers meet their "ends" from poison/infection, rather than directly in combat.

That scene was tough to read, especially because the reed wedding was in the same book.

I described reading the fight to a non-book friend as "You're reading like FINALLY a good guy wins! Then ####. What? He's not dead? What's he doing? WHAT THE ####?!?!"

Its weird. I like the Sansa story in the show but pretty much hated it in the books.

Me too. My wife only read the first 2 books. I've enjoyed watching her reactions to various things like that. The only downside is I stop watching the show and watch her instead. I usually end up catching a replay later.

So I need some people to remind me, but the botched Theon rescue attempt was not in the books, right? If so I don't remember it.

If I am right, to me this is an example of the writers messing up the overall plot structure, given the Moat Cailin story that was in the books.

At the end of the rescue attempt Asha said "my brother is dead". At that point she would have sent Ravens to Ironborn back at Pike but also presumably to other encampments too reporting that Theon was non compus mentus and under the complete control of Ramsay Snow. So he would have never been allowed into Moat Cailin and the Ironborn would have known from the start that it was simply a ruse, no?

Also, the Grey Worm/Missandei love story is painful. I hope they drop that crap soon.

If it wouldn't be a spoiler, I would call them out. There's at least two book readers pretending they are just guessing.

I hate the feeling of being embarrassed for someone, and someone that is on an anonymous message board, pretending they haven't read the books in a thread about a TV show, so a few other guys they will never meet MIGHT think they are perceptive, makes me embarrassed for them.

I assume in both cases it was the balls that were snipped, but I don't know if the book says specifically. Taking the twig as well as the berries sounds like a much more difficult procedure.

Yeah, trolling the tv thread is pretty low IMO.

I do like their question about "who do you think is safe to survive to the end?" My guess is Sansa, I can see her betraying/killing Littlefinger at the end. Arya I think will die in her pursuit of revenge. Jaime will take out Cersei and likely sacrifice himself somehow for redemption. Isn't Dany barren from children? Seems she could die without an heir, although Martin could write around it. Bran turns into a tree or something. Rickon takes over Winterfell. I think Varys will make it, as will Jon in some way even after what happened. Would like to see Davos make it, he's the practical survivor type.

It is a good question. Would have to say Jon (assuming, you know, he's still alive) and Dany. They are the two that appear to have greater destinies in this universe. But, Martin could every well be setting us up just to pull the rug out from underneath us.

Also Sam. Hard to see that guy meeting an early demise.
