HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (5 Viewers)

For the record, we can probably merge the threads now. There isn't a single (significant) storyline present in the books (that's also in the series) that the series hasn't caught up to or passed. The (apparent) death of Jon was at the very end of the last published book and made for a good season ending scene.

That all said, I have never understood how Martin handled the Snow murder(?). Plenty of the Watch saw what happened at Hardhome, and would have told the other brothers. They aren't the smartest bunch, but there is no reason at all why they wouldn't have at least understood why Jon brought the wildlings through. It made more sense for just one or two of them to have attempted a murder.

(BTW...Harrington is signed through season 7)

 
Based on what Kit Harrington's been told, Snow is dead and Harrington is not coming back next season ....

So he's either dead, or taking a year off to warg out and come back after he's forgotten about.

There is a link that says he isnt coming back at ewonline. Could be gamesmanship. I mean if jon is dead. Then who gives a #### about his mom n dad. Shrug

Normal sword. Tywin presented Jaime and Joffrey the 2 Valaryian steel swords later on by melting down Ned Starks sword. I remember reading Tywin now having Valaryian steel in the house is a great point of pride for him since they are few and far between

 
So where does the Lord of Light, and Lady Melisandre originate?

She has almost singlehandedly wiped out the Baratheon bloodline:

Robert dead

Bastards killed - except Gendry who Melisandre wanted to kill

Renly dead - Melisandre - no heirs

Stanis dead - Melisandre

Shireen dead - Melisandre

Seylese dead - Melisandre (directly or indirectly)

Outside of Gendry - no known heirs are left....

Is the Lord of Light choosing sides in this war, or does Melisandre have some sort of vendetta?

you can pretty much say this about all the noble houses in westeros,Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, all have been severly crippled. Cersei only has 1 child left, im guessing he bites it in season 6. then who takes the throne?

I just happened to be going through ADWD again and according to Qwentyn Martell, they may not be that rare. I think it's his 2nd chapter and he's talking/thinking about all the sellswords at Astapor. He mentions that there are "hundreds of Valyrian swords in the world, but only a handful of Valyrian arakh's." Obviously there can't be an army outfitted with them but there may be more than the ones we're directly told about.

So, cred+ to the Ramsay note to Jon then about beating Stannis... In the show, does this mean Theon and Sansa get to Castle Black? Assuming at the least it means Ramsay thinks they do. (althought the note could still be from Mance, letting Jon know about Stannis's defeat)

I did like the swap of Meryn Trant for Dareon in the end. Very good scenes with Arya.

My complaint is the same as it has been for a while now. They spend 7 pretty languid episodes "setting things up" and then jam all the memorable stuff into the last 3. I think they could have pushed some of the more notable events back into episode 6 and given them all a bit more room to breathe. Would have made it a better season overall.

So is Littlefinger the most powerful person in Westeros yet?

I hope book 6 comes out before the next season starts.

next time sansa see littlefinger Im guessing she stabs him in the neck.

While I like the subbing in Sansa for JPool, I don't get what Littlefinger gets out of it, sure the knights of Vale could route the Boltons, but I highly doubt Peter just marches on them now

I guess we get no Manderly pie ever.

Random thoughts:

So was the whole point of the Stannis arc presumably to bring Melissandre to Jon Snow at the wall?

I'm excited for Littlefinger's invasion of the North and Varys/Tyrion running Mereen, those plots should make for some interesting material.

Dorne really couldn't have been handled worse, it's not clear on the show at least where that is going at all. Really not sure where they go at the Wall from here if Snow is dead either, unless Davos is about to become a pivotal character. Nobody else left up there that we really care about.

why would the other nights watchmen just let Davos and Red Woman hang out now after Jons death?

Dorne was a steaming pile until the poison kiss. even then I think Cersei flips out on Jamie when he returns and than hes sent to riverlands? who knows

Well, we've had scenes that focus on Davos's and the Red Woman's points of view, so I meant that maybe we continue to track their perspective on events unfolding in the North (not necessarily at the wall embedded with the Watch), in the event Jon is truly gone.

 
I liked the Dorne stuff. That is the cliffhanger I'm interested the most in. Jamie has to kill that prince kid. That will have major consequences. Dorne king has to deal with poison lady, unless he was in on it (which I doubt or he wouldn't have put prince on the boat).

I don't really care about warging and white walkers. In fact, that's the #### that keeps me at a distance from really getting into this.

 
Seems like a pretty unfillable void (storytelling wise) in the North if both Jon and Stannis are dead and not coming back. Pretty much leaves only the Boltons and Bran as anyone who can do much up there. Neither have been very compelling throughout the story so far, so it'll be tough keeping interest in that area if that's the case.

I don't think they'd do that just because Harrington's as much a star as anyone else. Warging Jon Snow into something else permenantly for the next two seasons won't be good.

 
With two seasons left, they don't need to push the "Danereys to Westeros" storyline until the season finale next year...so I imagine her story (along with Tyrion's) is the consolidation of power in the East (I'm assuming she wins over the Dothraki).

Arya's path is her own...and I'd imagine that Martin allows her to get the people on her list.

I think they can work the Manderly/Frey/Bolton angle into next season if they wanted. Most of that was independent from the Stannis/Wall storyline.

The Sansa/Reek situation has hit a bit of a speed bump. Realistically, they're so close to Winterfell...common sense would dictate they'd be rounded up quickly (IIRC, Jeyne Poole and Theon escaped during a snow storm).....but Brienne/Pod could come across them, take them to White Harbor and take on the role of Davos there.

I have no idea what they do at The Wall. With Davos and The Red Woman there...it's not like they like each other nor would get support from The Night's Watch. So they almost have to bring Snow back quickly.

 
Davos will have to run into someone who knows Rikon/Bran are alive at some point to be sent looking for Rikon(Manderly/Sansa/Theon). Quick and easy way would be Sansa/Theon to the wall eliminating the Manderly involvement. That would suck, I'd love the Frey pie sequence, but it would speed that arc up.

 
I was talking to Dan Weiss and he said Jon is really dead. But George R.R. Martin left open the possibility the character might not be dead in the books. And then that cast salary contract story came out last year and it had your name among those receiving raises for season six and an option on a seventh. So let me ask you: Is Jonreally dead?

This is my understanding of it. I had a sit-down with Dan and David, we did the Tony Soprano walk [letting an actor know they’re being whacked]. And they said, “Look, you’re gone, it’s done.” And as far as the salary thing goes, that angered me when that story came out. I don’t know where it came from, but it was inaccurate in many ways. It’s going to put questions into your head and into fans’ heads that things are not what they are. Quite honestly, I have never been told the future of things in this show, but this is the one time I have. They sat me down and said, “This is how it is.” If anything in the future isnot like that, then I don’t know about it – it’s only in David and Dan and George’s heads. But I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.

Hmm, seems to be a little too outraged about it. I always thought he'd warg it up from reading the books.
