HBO's HARD KNOCKS: Dallas Cowboys (1 Viewer)

Anyone else had a good chuckle when Zach Thomas was practicing returning punts, and Crayton said don't pull an ### muscle. Seconds later, the narrator said something along the lines of, " Zach Thomas is no fool, he has someone to massage his ### muscles." I was :blackdot:
What was even funnier is right after the narrator made that crack about a guy massaging his ### muscles, they immediately cut to a close up of his wedding ring.

Some observations from Episode 2....1) Felix Jones looks very quick out there.2) Does Marion Barber have a "No TV" clause in his new contract? He hasn't shown his face or spoken a word in 2 shows.3) Tank Johnson absolutely abused the o-lineman from San Diego in that sack highlight they showed.4) Crayton actually has a pretty good sense of humor.5) That rookie tight end may wind up strangling Jason Garrett's brother before training camp is over.6) Did T.O. make that kid cry when he taped him up and dunked him in the bucket of ice water? Sure looked like it.7) Another episode in the books and still no mention of Jessica Simpson.
Any Idea when nfl.com will put up the video ?

not very much on Witten, Romo or MB3 in episode #2, although I'm convinced that if the dude that plays Godfather on Generation Kill needs a voice break they can substitute Dave Campo's in and nobody would notice.

I don't think NFL.com puts up the full episodes... just clips. If you have Comcast cable, HBO stores the back episodes in their On Demand section.

martellus bennett is a punk.
He's not going to make it in the NFL.wasted pick.

ETA - TO has won me over. He just makes me smile.
funniest part of this episode was when they had Roy doing his TO beach run impression.
:banned: Agreed...the throwing the rock impersonation was classic. Was it Roy Williams who snuck into T.O's room right behind him. And then when he left right in front of T.O - he had his bag? Great stuff. The biggest revelation of this series for me has been just how much T.O has become one of the guys.

Other things...

Mrs. Price - every team should have one. Every team needs one...

Bennett - Ummm...kid? Get your game face on and bring better body language. And the cameras...they are there because they are recording a television show that gets watched by every member of the Dallas Cowboy organization most likely. The impression they are getting is that you are not serious about your job...

Tank Johnson - Surprised to see he's become such a significant locker room presence in such a short amount of time, especially in a locker room like the Coyboys with the talent they have.

Wade Phillips - I've never been a big fan...but, he seems like the perfect coach for THIS team...

Jerry Jones - I loved him explaining the stage of the pre-season game "now this is...a good time...to evaluate, ummm...some of the young players on the roster". Got it Jerry - thanks for the explanation. Next question - why is the football shaped funny?

Alot of personalities on this team. I agree that TO is coming off as very likable.

I found the quote by Tank Johnson pretty telling. When he said "Man practicing here is like the Pro Bowl, everyone out here is $$$$$$$$$ good."

I could do without the "I am Cowboy" country interlude when they were on the bus to the game, that seemed really forced like they had some sort of agreement to put that song in the show.

This is still a great series.

My thoughts on Episode 2

getting better as they develop the rookie story lines: Bennett is immature and needs to get it together right away. The vets on this team will make sure he undergoes an attitude change.

the WR Lowbar seems like a good and sincere kid, but I dont think he makes the team--maybe practice squad

Same for WR Amendola--the Dallas press loves him, but fumbling a punt in the opener won't help his chances

Does Ray Lewis' brother, Lattimore, look just like him or what? Great resemblence between the 2 brothers

Cowboys camp seems to be fun under "Grandpa Wade" as the guys are working hard but enjoying each others company. They say Wade is soft and runs "camp cupcake" but its hard to argue with 13 and 3 his first year

With ya on both counts here Frank.I didn't like the second-round selection of Bennett from the moment they announced it.

Had me scratching/shaking my head.
My natural instinct after viewing both episodes is to say the kid is a punk too but he may just be immature and may not understand the criticism. Let us keep in mind that this is a TV show and the editors want compelling storylines. Someone has to be a black sheep and it would not surprise me to find scenes edited to put Bennett in an unfavorable light. I expect him to turn around with the right kind of guidance and time. Could just be the way it is edited but it doesn't appear like he has a good friend there yet. I hope a guy like Deon Anderson takes him under his wing. Every time I find myself getting too down on him I remember the first episode where he is talking about suitcases with wheels and what a great invention they are and how he comes up with great inventions all the time only to find out that they are already invented. Cracks me up every time.

Below is a sign that Bennett may not be all that bad.

Jones Impressed By Rookie Tight End

Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones is excited about several players, but he couldn’t stop talking about rookie tight end Martellus Bennett during the afternoon practice Wednesday against the Broncos.

In a rare move, Jones strolled over towards a handful of reporters on the sidelines and commented on Bennett’s improved play since the first OTAs this summer, mentioning not only his route-running and consistent hands, but his powerful blocking as well.

The next two plays, Bennett made a crushing block on a Broncos defensive end, sealing off the side for a big run by rookie tailback Keon Lattimore.

Before Jones’ could finish his sentence on Bennett’s improved blocking, the rookie from Texas A&M made a swift move into the secondary and found a hole in the zone defense to haul in a 15-yard completion from Brad Johnson.

Bennett is taking some hits for his so-called “poor body language” but at least he’s making a good impression on one person that really counts.

Reads to me that Jerry Jones is handling an immature rookie with kid gloves and doing everything he can to help his confidence. The kid has to realize he comes off as a total immature jerk on the show. In reality show terms, Martellus has been cast as a "villian", someone the audience is to root against. That can't be helping him.

I think immature jerk is too strong. He is immature...that aptly describes him right now. The point someone had about him not having a friend yet...don't know how true that is, but his interactions with teammates have not been covered.

I think that Pacman needs to shut his mouth and listen to Campo...he hasn't accomplished a thing in this league yet he doesn't want to listen and use proper technique for a corner. That bothered me a bit. Maybe he needs to get away from Deon for awhile. Then come to find out Brand Marshall is killing him in the scrimmage yesterday vs the Broncos makes things worse.

Felix is the truth but I'm starting to wonder about Roy Williams a bit. I met him a few times and the man I met is much different than the one I've been seeing since last year. He definitely seems "softer" if you know what I mean.

The funniest part of this past episode has to be Roy Williams imitating T.O. when he does his running on the beach scene in the intro..

If you mean he's sorta feminine then that's nothing new. TTTAWWT.

There's video on the broncos website of marshall making plays on him in the scrimmage

C'mon man. The guy has missed more than a year and is facing a guy much bigger(giving up 6 inches and 30+lbs) in drills that favor the WR. Campo will get his points across and Jones will lose the rust. I am interested to see how the 2nd preseason game goes. The power of Pacman isn't that he never gets beat. His strength is that when he wins it can easily be 6 going the other way. Easy to throw his way in practice and the preseason but by week 4 those passes are going to be fewer and longer in between.

Brandon Marshall can beat anybody. As a Dallas fan, I love the Pacman signing. No question he'll help our D & return game. Zach Thomas was a huge acquisition, as well. If the Boys stay healthy on both sides of the ball, I'd think they've got to be looked at as the odds-on-favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this season.

It's funny...you'd think I'd be excited about Felix Jones' potential effect on the offense. I believe he'll be a good addition, it's just that I don't expect as much production as many are predicting. I'm more concerned with the WR2 position. Whether it's Crayton, Hurd, Austin, Stanback, or whoever, I truly believe we could have one of the most dangerous offenses, EVER, if the "other" wideout plays well enough to draw coverage off TO &/or Witten.

Where on earth is Tashard Choice? I know Jones was the 1st rounder and Lattimore is the undrafted FA (who is also Lewis' brother), but I have not heard mention of choice. Is he hurt or something? I have about 10 minutes left to watch on the second episode, but honestly, I am left wondering here...

No he is not hurt and is having a good camp. Al ot of episodes left.

He's just not involved. He's not a NO. 1 pick, making him someone most people want to hear about and he's not the guy who may be cut........nor a veteran from another team trying to make a fresh start.Choice is the NO. 3 RB on the Cowboy squad and if Barber ever got hurt, probably the goaline back kind of making him the 2B in a weird way even though he won't get near the looks Felix does while Barber is healthy.

:penalty: I know Bennett and he's not as bad as the show is making him out to be. I'm glad Dallas drafted him in the second and think that he will be very good with some more experience.

Personally, I'm pretty bored with first 2 episodes so far. Isn't this supposed to be "hard knocks" training camp? So far it just looks like a cakewalk and a Cowboys puff piece. Outside of that rookie TE, everyone has "great attitude" and seems to be towing the company line. All coaches do is rave about their players with hardly ever any real criticism. You'd think this team had won 3 straight super bowls...not the team that hasn't won a playoff game in over a decade.

They don't call it "Camp Cupcake" for nothing.

Hardly Cupcake. It sure didn't hurt the start of last year's season. Their problem is "finishing". They deserve the critism until they do something about it. However, I do like the fact they have limited injuries during training camp because of "Camp Marshmallow" as Wade called this year.

Some observations from Episode 2....2) Does Marion Barber have a "No TV" clause in his new contract? He hasn't shown his face or spoken a word in 2 shows.
I was about to post this. They're showing all of the key players with one notable exception each week - Barber. Is there any talk in Dallas about this? Does he not want to be on the show? Has he told the producers not to film him? It's very odd that they've completely ignored the starting RB - especially given how much attention they're lavishing on the backup (who, by the way, is the real deal - I agree with everything that's being said about him).

Agreed TO is very charismatic. He seems to be a great individual when he is getting his way and its all sunshine and bunny rabbits. But let us not forget this is the same guy who sit-upped his way out of Philly. As long as they are winning, though, he'll be fine.

I agree. He's entertaining and he's coming across very well on this show but the guy is definitely a frontrunner.

He is extremely shy....almost Ricky Williams shy.

Saw ep. 2 last night. My observations:

-- Felix Jones looks like the real deal.

-- Pacman is the second coming of Terrell Buckley, with more baggage.

-- I thought Martellus Bennett was a big reach in the 2nd round, and he is proving me right, and then some. Can't believe this guy got drafted before the 4th round. Someone should nickname him Charmin, because the dude is soft.

-- How come I get the feeling that Jerry Jones handpicked Martellus Bennett?

-- The loss of Tank Johnson was clearly a major factor in the Bears defense taking a couple steps backward last season. Dude looks like a beast.

-- Jason Garrett's dad was a breath of fresh air. Hard not to like the guy, and it's amazing that he has run every day since 1980 or whatever. But if what he was doing on the track counts as running, then I've run every day of my life since 1980 too.

-- There's no one this year that can challenge the King of Comedy from last season, Gunther Cunningham, but Roy Williams is giving it his best. That TO impression was hillarious.

-- Speaking of TO, he showed very poor awareness and reaction time letting Roy Williams sneak into his room behind him, and then nearly walk off with his bag. Looks like he may have lost 1/2 a step. I might have to drop TO a spot or 2 in my wr rankings, and move Braylon Edwards up to #2 after witnessing that.

-- WTF is up with Campo leading the db's on their break, "1-2-3 DB's!" then :snap: :lmao:

-- I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode to see how they handle Jessica Simpson's misread pregnancy test. If they don't address this the next show, I'm boycotting the rest of Hard Knocks this year in protest.

:lmao: Dude, give the guy a break. I would estimate he is roughly 160 years old.

I think the answer to your concerns is already there. I believe it was Clayton who said that Jones looks like the best receiver after TO and Witten. They are already talking about using him in more one back sets as well. I'm pretty certain he's going to have almost as many touches as Barber, where Barber sees more carries, but less receptions.

Not enough player personnel stuff yet this year. The KC version had a ton of GM/player personnel footage. I hope that increases.

Excuse me replying to myself, but Holy ####... I just realized who he reminded me of, when he was jogging 1 MPH.

Some observations from Episode 3...

1) Maybe it's selective editing by HBO, but Pacman has not looked at all impressive to me through 3+ weeks of training camp. He's getting beat constantly. Seems like he's trying too hard to jump routes and make the big INT and keeps missing tackles left and right. He looked pretty good on a punt return.... then proceeded to spike the ball and got a delay of game penalty. :goodposting:

2) I feel bad for Miles Austin. Dudes been working hard. Made a couple of real nice plays then sprained his MCL. That sucks.

3) Three episodes in the books and still nothing on Marion Barber. No interviews. Nothing about how he's looked in camp. Just a brief off to the side conversation that was filmed almost by accident. Does this dude have the Ricky Williams social anxiety disorder or something?

4) The scene where the old lady in the restaurant asks "Who are you guys?" when like 12 Cowboy players were out eating together... and the one lineman says "We're from L.A. Galaxy... we're soccer players." Best one liner of the show so far.

5) What was the deal with that argument between Garrett's brother and Martellus Bennett about tucking in his t-shirt? That was painful to sit through. That dynamic is starting to look a lot like an old bickering married couple.

6) Staying with the "what was the deal with that" question...... the popcorn face-stuffing meeting between Jerry Jones and Peter King??? Was that a merchandising plug for Orville Reddenbacher? I think we all would have been OK with that 2 minutes being left on the cutting room floor.

Beat me to it. I won't be needing to see blowhard Peter King shoveling grub into his hole again anytime soon.Only other thing I have to add from this episode is... I LOVE Tank Johnson's passion for the game! :goodposting:

Martellus Bennet needs an ugly dog to talk to women?

Did he forget he plays in NFL for the Dallas Cowboys already?
