HC Brian Schottenheimer, DAL - Countdown to the End, Again! (1 Viewer)

Question: Was Brian the only person that would actually accept the job from Dallas?

If you say Deion Sanders answered Jerry's phone calls, Rooney Rule seems to be all that JJ was trying to fill so he could hire Schottenheimer
It reeks of Jones hiring another yes man that can be controlled and inflict his beliefs into how the Cowboys will operate, and I mean in the coaches meetings not just ticket prices

Jerry knows the Cowboys cannot compete and win like he is watching in the NFCC with 2 teams in his own Division, Dallas is several cycles away from anything like that
$6,000,000,000.00 franchise and couldn't even hire Bill Belichick who was openly campaigning on the Mannings MNF show to be a head coach in the NFL
Schottenheimer was the most qualified of who was actually available to them? If so, what does that say about the Dallas Cowboys?

Sad to think he is the only one to take the job. I do think he is another YES man for Jerry. He is being slammed because he has never been a HC before. That does not necessarily mean he won't succeed. I say, wait and see, but I am glad it is not Deion. Jerry would have never given total control to Belichick. I am optimistic about the new DC, although it took half the year last year to learn a new system.

Yup. Jerry Jones wants his cake and to eat it too. Despite Jimmy Johnson winning his organization 2 Super Bowls, it took Jerry nearly 3 decades to get over whatever tiff they had regarding his GM responsibilities and he will assuredly never hire another Jimmy Johnson style coach again. Which IMO mean's Jones will die before this organization gets back to the big one; especially sharing a division with the Eagles and now the Commanders and Jayden Daniels.

I heard today on Steven A that one issue was the Jerry wanted a spot for Witten on staff and apparently some coaches balked.

Kellen Moore really wanted the job and was shocked by Jerry’s decision.
Did he say that?

Either way I can't say he's a better hire then Schotty, kind of similar really.
One of the few candidates to interview with the Cowboys, Kellen Moore, was said to “covet” the job according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
Moore was surprised at the elevation of Schottenheimer. According to a variety of outlets, Moore very much wanted this job and felt very confident that he had the inside track to getting it.

Thanks for responding and posting but did not see anything saying he was shocked.

Not to get into a heavy argument on semantics but I think the article says he was "apparently surprised". Surprised is not the same level as shocked and "apparently" to me indicates people are guessing at his mindset more then him saying it.

I've no doubt he thought himself a major contender for the job and coveted it.

I'll just say if Jerry had hired him it would have gone over a lot better with fans/media but I don't think he's any more or less qualified then Schottenhiemer.

Jerry always likes to hand pick one of the assistant coaches so he has a relief pitcher on hand in the unlikely event things inexplicably don't work with his HC hirings

You started a ridiculous semantics argument over shocked vs surprised. Knowing the competitive nature of a former qb and current offensive coordinator, along with his close ties to the Dallas Cowboys organization, while I personally don’t have a quote from Kellen Moore, I said he was shocked and I stand by that. It’s common sense and human nature.

Wow, I thought we were having a normal conversation.

But if you want to go there either your reading comprehension sucks or you just like jumping to your conclusions and/or making stuff up.

Todd Archer/ESPN is quoted as saying Moore "covets" the job
-When you covet something you have a very strong desire for it. I could easily see a reporter or media person think and then say "Moore was shocked" based on earlier reports

If I want something badly and then watch to my shock and amazement as another assistant coach I deem unfit or not qualified for the job...yeah I think shocked is a pretty good summary
I'm not picking sides but i think @N Zone did a good job of showing his work or where he came up with that conclusion

Why are you two arguing, both had decent points, can we call it a draw here?
I had no intentions of starting another Dallas HC thread but then I started looking more in Schottenheimer's resume and Jerry Jones way over selling it at the press conference
My feelings are Schotty was one of the few who would actually accept the Dallas HC position because you have to humor and play up to jerry jones, the owner of the team

Shocked, Surprised, Coveted, all words that add up to Moore thinking he had the inside track and truly wanting the job but denied by Jerry Jones
I didn't know about Moore being so interested in the Dallas job, that does show there were possibly other more qualified coaches.
I also am not sure that Moore is a massive upgrade over Schottenheimer when we are discussing the Dallas Cowboys

Thanks and Cheers both of you!
