Help make 7/7/07 John Elway Day (1 Viewer)

Another fun little game. Take all of the careers of any offensive player who happened to be on any of the 80's SB teams and see how many pro bowls they made. All of Elway's offensive players, during the course of their ENTIRE CAREERS (not just the SB years), accounted for 4 total pro bowl appearances. Keith Bishop made two pro bowls (1986 and 1987), Steve Watson made the pro bowl once (back in 1981), and Bobby Humphrey made the pro bowl once (1990). Let's put this into perspective, shall we? The 2000 Baltimore Ravens are widely considered the worst offense in Superbowl history. Despite this, that one Ravens team featured almost three times as many players who made at least one pro bowl (eight) than ALL THREE DENVER TEAMS COMBINED (three). Those Ravens made a combined 32 Pro Bowls (and counting) during their careers, compared to the 4 pro bowls that the non-Elway players made. And those Ravens finished 14th in scoring, below every single one of those Denver teams. The only other team that has enjoyed even a comparable level of success with a complete lack of top-shelf offensive talent is the New England Patriots... and the Pats finished 1st, 2nd, and 6th in scoring defense their three SB years.
You seem to place a lot of weight on Pro Bowl voting. This makes as much sense as moleculo trying to convince us that Meklenberg, Atwater, and Smith all sucked because they are not in the Hall of Fame.
I mentioned it in the last thread about this, too. Pro Bowl voting is a very, very flawed process, and as a result I hesitate to use it... but there are no other good objective measures of a player's talent, especially from 20 years ago. Also, I tend to operate under the assumption that if you really are a good player, you will make AT LEAST one pro bowl during the course of your career.

Actually, I believe Mecklenburg, Atwater, and DSmith all belong in the HOF. It's absolutely ludicrous to think that Denver went to 3 SB's in 4 years, with only one HOF caliber player. Either Denver is short-changed WRT HOF representation, or Elway is way under-rated. Take your pick, either conclusion is fine by me.

team sport down?

In honor of Elway, have that one idiot paint a 7 on that stupid barrel he wears. That's about all that overrated loser deserves. Or someone can go low at the back of his legs like one of his cheapshot O-Linemen to show him how it feels.

Him & T. Davis are probably still getting paid under the table for 97 98.

Get in line behind the Redskins fans. They won 3 of 4 superbowls in a 10 year span and got one HOF player (who wasn't there for most of that time) and the coach (who has lately been getting people to probably wonder if they should reconsider), even though several key players were there for most if not all of those years. HOF voting is just as flawed as Pro bowls, so this argument really doesn't mean much.

Happy John Elway Day, everybody!!!!
You too. I quit my job today. I assumed I had off for the occasion and everything in town would be closed, but my boss said we were staying open. That's borderline slave labor. Working on Elway Day? Next it'll be Christmas, then Columbus Day. :sadbanana:

Elway fans place very little emphasis on winning SBs. You'll have to come up with a stronger argument than that.
