Henderson EARLY edge at WR2 in N.O. (1 Viewer)

The N.O. Times-Picayune Paper (from Rotoworld) claims that Coach Payton feels Henderson has made good strides this offseason so far and had the early edge at the WR2 spot opposite Colston. In fact, Meachem had been playing as Colstons' backup so far. I know it's VERY early but Henderson has been available as a late WR4 (in 12 team drafts) & in that offense could be good value if he can at the very least assure himself of significant playing time....

I know others here had written he could be cut - Thoughts???

Henderson's not going anywhere. Once Meachem showed up fat and slow to camp, it was Henderson's job to lose. Payton's not putting up with that crap, not after years of being taught by Parcells how to run a team.

However, if Henderson gives the slightest reason to put Meachem in a game in his place - injury, lack of production, drops, etc - look out. Meachem's big, fast, has solid hands, and has a bright future once he starts working. And reports are that he's starting to turn Payton's opinion around back to what it was when they drafted the guy in the first place. So Henderson's got huge upside, but huge downside, too.

Henderson went as the 51st wr (12th rd 12 teams) taken in my redraft (still yet to complete). Meachem went 5 picks later.

I think it was decent value given his upside ( I took Bruce 4 picks before). Mainly because I wanted a steady receiver at that spot.

Got him in the 11th round(143 overall) of my initial dynasty draft.

I feel that he has the best speed of the WR group and has the most experience.

Both are good indications that he will start.

This is what I was thinking also when I grabbed him in the 12th. Even the WR3 in that O will have some value and Colston will draw a LOT more attention this year as last year he snuck up on some teams early with Horn still there. I think he's worth a shot that late IMO...

I agree with most that he will be a good value WR this year.

Quick side note (sorry if it's a slight hijack) but I'm confused as to why most depth charts I'm seeing these days (including FBG and the official NO site) have Copper listed as WR2 to Colston. Has he done anything in camp to warrant this status?

Wow. I got him in the 30th round (411th overall) last year. He's still only my #6-7-8 wr and I've been trying to trade him for months but no one seems to want him. IDP league

I like the upside of the WR2 in N.O., but that could shake out a ton of different ways. It seems clear that Colston is WR1, but Henderson and Meachem and even Copper will fight for looks after that... and Eric Johnson may steal some looks from the WRs this year if he is healthy.

I think Henderson is the best bet here, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

Its highly unlikely for 2008 that Henderson wont be the #2. ability is one thing, knowing the system is another. Now, fforward to 2008/9/10 ... we wont know for a bit.

Henderson would be a big time receiver in that offense if he could only catch the ball. Guy gets separation easy and just can't seem to reel in the catches.

Also, Copper will be gone (most probably) in 2008. So, anyone thinking he will emerge must like longshots. Few rookie WRs emerge early in year one, but usually gain more starts and game time as the season rolls along. This is what I would expect for Meachem in this situation.

Colston looked bad at camp early last too but when TC opened he was so good they traded Stallworth.

FBG's doesn't list a WR2 starter. Starters are in blue and both Copper and Henderson are in green on the page.http://subscribers.footballguys.com/apps/depthchart.php

The pie might be big - 4,000 or so big... but there are so many ways one can cut it...

Colston will get a big chunk... so will Reggie... add Deuce, Meachem, Copper and Henderson to the mix... and I'm guessing that it won't fill your appetite...

"So good they traded Stallworth" doesn't mean as much here as it must to you. People in New Orleans hated Stallworth, he complained a lot and he wasn't on board with the new coaching staff. Payton loves Henderson. Big difference.

Bump - Due to today's (06/04) Meachem injury news & Rotoworld saying he was struggling again in OTA's before the injury....
Though it is a meniscus tear and he is expected back for next round of camps. Henderson keeps looking good, it's his job, but if he doesn't Meachem could take it during preseason.

Losing this much time to recover from the injury is going to set Meacham back, and I really don't see him beginning the season as the starter. Remember, he IS a rookie.

My TE sleeper this year so far.
Your sleeper that is still asleep, he isn't even taking 1st team reps yet.

That really doesn't mean a thing in June. It is just a coach doing things the right way and making players EARN their way, instead of handing them a job.

Tell that to Jeff Garcia.

Yeah, Garcia got 'handed' the job, over a retired (?) QB (Plummer), a QB (Phil Simms) who owns (by his own admission) a tattoo of his (boy) friend's name, and a 2nd year QB (Gradkowski) who proved his worth (?) on the field last season.I'd say Garcia's earned the starting spot, and will continue to prove it, when compared with the other 12 QB's the Bucs have.

Remember, Henderson IS a receiver with a drop problem.

If everyone agreed with me, he wouldn't be a sleeper now, would he?
