Henne for real? (1 Viewer)

Henne looked like something clicked with him against the Jets. It looked like he finally came out of his shell a bit and realized the amazing weapon he has in Marshall. They really haven't been on the same page throughout preseason and the first two weeks, but it does seem like the chemistry they got going in that game, if it continues, could make Henne a viable QB1. He threw for 363 yards against the Jets - Revvis, and I don't know exactly how bad the Jets secondary is without Revvis. Well, they're currently ranked 27th against the pass so I guess pretty damn bad.

Still, anyone think this was Henne's coming out party and he keeps his yardage north of 250 from here on out?

Jets look easy to pass on without Revis and Marshall owns Cromartie

As long as he figures out there's not a single corner in the NFL that can cover Brandon Marshall one on one then I see no reason why he won't be successful.

right, I acknowledged that in my post but the question is whether his success came only as a result of that, or increasing chemistry with his star receiver, increased opportunities, that kind of thing. Looking for some insight here.

That's a good question. I remember thinking Henne had arrived last year after his MNF performance against the Jets, and that wasn't the case. If he realizes what a weapon he has in Marshall, then I don't see why he can't be very successful.

Although I own Marshall, and Henne had a strong outing Sunday night, I am still concerned. I thought he looked robotic and locked onto his receiver before and during every throw.

Despite Marshall's ceiling being incredibly high, if the right offer came my way, I might sell. That wildcat in the redzone is a beating to watch from a fantasy perspective.

I was going to start listing reasons on the Jets side but, we know that. I'll just say this... The Miami OL gave him all the time in the world and in Rex Ryan's Presser he gave Miami a ton of credit and said he Knew Henne was a good QB out of college. So, Rex thinks he's real good.

He still is learning but he has had 4 years of college, a year carrying the clipboard, a year in the fire last year, now he is starting this year...I'm not impressed and I'm a Dolphinfan. I think the organization will need to take a good hard look at who they can draft and or sign next year. Henne is not going to help Miami win any Lombardi Trophys.

Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, Brees...those guys are all likely to be hall of fame inductees, several 1st ballow too so where doe sHenne stack up? Brad Johnson was the last journeyman to wina SB for the Bucs and he was a decent QB with a fantastic group of talent around him and an amazing defense backing him up.

Henne is moderate at best. He is going to look silly over the next 5 games against NE, @GB, PIT, @Cinci, @Balt...if you could sell him and get anything for him you should do so.

WOW!!!!!!Wait till Smackdown reads this :thumbup:I'm surprised you feel this way.... IMO, we don't give QB's enough time these days and QB is the hardest position in the sport to Analyze and judge. Two of the most important things for a young QB IMO are 1) Putting the time in and eating and breathing Football and 2) Being able to take a hit and just keep coming without flinching.... I was watching some tape on Aikman and I really forgot the Absolute BEATING the man took early on... I'd say 9 out of 10 QB's turn intro David Carr after that into to the NFL.That said, I think there's a long way to go to evaluate Henne overall.. WHAT??? Don't drop and post dude.

Henne may or may not be for real, but he is going to rip apart the Patriots rookie cb's and generally poor defense this weekend.I look for Henne to approach the 300 yard mark and 2td's this week for anyone looking for a bye week starter. The Pat's let Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bills put up 30 point on them this past weekend.

Fins fan as well, and yes I did like what I saw. But I would have like Henning to use the run more. That gimmick Wildcat was not working at all vs the Jets. The Jets had more success with that crap than the Fins. Brad Smith completely owned them in that formation

Henne will still be inconsistent. I mean he only has a full year of game experience under his belt. Made some nice throws but he also missed some easy throws. The Fins will go as far as Henne takes them. They took off the training wheels vs the Jets and Henne responded well. Adding a playmaker like Bmarsh helps a ton. That guy turned a 5-6 yd gain into a 15-20 yd gain. By seasons end, Henne should be a high end QB 2 in lgs. But whether he can lead the Fins to the playoffs remains to be seen. But I definitely liked what I have seen thus far. He has some nice tests coming up. I would be very interested to see how he looks vs the Pats. If I remember right, their Pass D is nothing exciting as they are benching CB's left and right to find the right combination.

100% disagree but good luck

Fantasy wise it seems like Henne has potential but MIA relies more on Brown and the run game that we wouldn't see it, including in the redzone. MIA rushed 36 times in Wk1, 29 wk2, and 23 wk3. Wks 1 & 2 he had 3 total redzone chances, and Wk3 they used Henne 9 times in the redzone. Is there a change in the game plan to go with Henne or was it because they were down?

he seems to have a ton of success against the Jets. This was the first game where it actually looked like the Dolphins OC actually tried to press the ball upfield. They threw one deep ball all game against the vikings and from what I gather had a bland game plan as well in week 1. It seems to me that they need to be more willing to let henne take some lumps and push the ball down field.

As a Henne owner in one of my leagues, I was not pleased with this information from earlier in September:

Source: Parcells unhappy with QB Henne's development

Excerpt:

Published: Sept. 10, 2010 at 09:24 p.m. Updated: Sept. 12, 2010 at 09:41 a.m.

Things suddenly look a tad tumultuous for a Miami Dolphins team once believed to be in position for a run at the AFC East title.

The latest downer to come out of Miami is that Bill Parcells, who ceded full control of the team to general manager Jeff Ireland this week, is "disappointed" with quarterback Chad Henne, a source close to Parcells told NFL.com's Vic Carucci.

Specifically, Parcells isn't happy with Henne's development. The quarterback is entering his third NFL season, and he passed for 2,878 yards and 12 touchdowns with 14 interceptions in 2009, his first year as Miami's starter.

Parcells' feelings on the quarterback matter don't have anything to do with him resigning his position as football czar, according to Carucci.

He looked as bad in the week 1 game against Buffalo as he did good in the game against the Jets. It seems to be a crapshoot with him.

A big arm that has REPEATEDLY under thrown Marshall and Bess downfield in the 1st three games...
First play of the game he overthrew a deep pass? That being said, he hasn't been as sharp on the long passes, although, let's be honest, there have not been very many of them.I don't agree with MOP, I think Henne will be a solid QB. I don't think his accuracy is at the point where you are comfortable saying he will be a top 5 QB in the league, but that is saying a lot. If he is an average NFL starter that puts him around 15-18. I think he has the ability to be a top 10 guy as he can make all throws; touch pass, bullet pass, rollout pass etc, in and out...Being an avg NFL QB is not awful though. He is around the average mark right now and that means he is better than 16 other starting QB's...IMO

I only saw him play in the Jet game, but he looked pretty good. His passes were, for the most part, on target. He stood in the pocket well and he didn't take many chances. One point to note is that the Jets backfield missed alot of schemes - which may explain why receivers looked open quite often.

NE's pass D looks terrible. They allowed respectable numbers to Ryan Fitzpatrick, for Pete's sake.GB and BAL can be thrown on, too, if you scheme properly.

I didn't get to see the NE game last night, but his stat line looked ok other than the picks. Were those all bad throws by him?

29-39 for 302 yards and 2 TDs / 3INT

He sucked out loud.
Can you expand on that?
I didn't stay up for the second half but the first 2 picks he threw were pretty bad. He threw some flat nasty pass in to triple coverage, trying to force the ball in to Marshall on his first pick. (the first time he threw the ball more than 10 yards) And the second pick, was some awful late pass to the flat, where the LB made a nice play. Not sure about the 3rd.ETA: Just watched the highlights and the 3rd INT was horrific as well.

Tyler Thigpen - Oct. 5 10:32 AM

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said on SportsCenter Tuesday that the Dolphins are concerned about Chad Henne and could eventually turn to Chad Pennington, who would "bridge the gap" to Tyler Thigpen.

Thigpen replaced an ineffective Henne late in Monday's loss to the Patriots but played poorly himself. It's been previously reported that consultant Bill Parcells has been "very disappointed" with Henne. We don't expect the Dolphins to give up on Henne just yet, but it seems the leash is getting shorter.

Thigpen ?? LOL

This is like the 49ers situation (Smith e Carr both suck)

a few years ago Thigpen's second half performance at KC put a bunch of FF owners in the playoffs. worth keeping an eye on.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano laughed off a report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen, saying the team has no plans to make a change at quarterback "right now."

Sparano defended Henne's play Monday night, saying, "This guy threw 10 incompletions ... Thought he had a hell of a day." He also added that he sees "progress in a lot of areas" with Henne. Mortensen had reported that the Dolphins could turn to Chad Pennington before eventually going to Tyler Thigpen, but that appears, at least for now, to be premature.

Any coach that says his QB had a "helluva day" after throwing 3 picks, is lying or a complete idiot.

Sporano after the game last night in the press conference was saying that Henne played well.Miami really has nowhere to turn right now and if henne is not the solution which it appears, where do they turn to next? The draft? Another 5 year rebuild project?

Maybe they can burn another 2nd round pick for a QB they can cut.

I agree completely with the bolded part. A few games into a guy's career and he gets labeled either a stud or a bust. Henne, Kolb, Sanchez...a few passes and everyone gets worried about their fantasy stats. QB's used to get a few years to develop. How'd Terry Bradshaw look his first couple of seasons? Or Steve Young & Troy Aikman? Yeah a lot of QB's bust, but way too soon to make a decision after after a season or two, imo. What were people saying about Mark Sanchez after last year? Or the first game this year? How about now?

Speaking of complete idiots, those are the people that only look at the box score and comment on the outcome based on what they read.

1 pick hit Hartline between the numbers and he didn't catch it.

1 pick was because Marshall stopped his route for no reason at all.

The other pick was a simply a bad throw, most quarterbacks make them at least once a game.

Outside of the last pick I mentioned (which was the first one he threw), I thought he played a pretty good football game.

Yeah, deleting this was your best bet. Since, I'm not sure you even watched the same game as the rest of us.

Still don't think he was that awful. QB's make bad throws, and some of them get picked. You're talking about a kid that still completed just <75% of his passes last night vs a Bill Belicheck defense in his 17th professional game started. Henne has a lot of upside.

The schedule's a grinder, but I like his future.
