HERD's 2005 NFL Mock Draft (1 Viewer)

Leinhart will not get past the Raiders (Kerry Collins isnt the answer) plus Matt can be the next Marinovich (kidding)Braylon goes higher.. the only thing holding him back is that everyone took a WR last year. Braylon will go higher than WIlliams

I think we can put to rest the specualtion that Vince Young going pro. He just has not progressed as a passer at all. Great athlete, but right now a poor pro qb prospect. He is right now too much project and not enough prospect. As a Longhorn fan, I'm glad we'll have Young around 1 or 2 more seasons.
Young would be a RIDICULOUS WR if he dedicated himself to learning the position.

I want the Bears to draft Barron too, but not that high.If Marc Colombo can FINALLY play (which is what's being reported), I think the Bears may take a run at Mike Williams. If not, they'll trade down, because that's what Jerry Angelo does....

Braylon Edwards will be the #1 WR drafted...without a doubt. Also, the Cowboys pick from the Bills will likely fall out of the top-10. The Bills are not as bad as their record.

Without a doubt? No chance Mike Williams goes higher?

Mike Williams spent the year sitting on his couch...Braylon Edwards is having a Heisman-caliber season with an 18-year old true freshman at QB in a defensive conference. He's being referred by some as the best PLAYER in the country, and that's probably not far from the truth. Edwards is almost as big as Williams and considerably faster.I'm just not a fan of Mike Williams' pro prospects, especially after the year layoff. Edwards will be much fresher in all the scouts and GMs minds.I guess there is "some" doubt as a lot can change between now and April. But, as of right now, I think it's a lock.

Interesting. I have to admit I don't watch much Big 10 or Pac-10 ball unless it's a national game (down here in FL, it's all ACC or SEC) but from what I have heard, Edwards has some problems with drops. Williams supposedly had much better hands and was as much or more of a "game-changer" last year than Edwards is this year. Judging by Edwards' stats, I'd say they may be equal in that respect.I think a lot may hinge on what kind of shape Williams has kept himself in, if the reports I read are ture, he's in decent condition...

i have seen Braylon up at Ann Arbour, hes a pretty big guy 6'3 i lbelieve hes not EXCEPTIONALY fast but is fast for hi ssize... faster then Williams for sure. his dad Stan Edwards is a big fan as well, he too was a really good football player at Michigan years ago. ... btw if anyone wonders Braylon Edwards idle is the legendary Anthony Carter. right now i'd rank the Wideouts Edwards 1A Williams 1B i also like young Clayton as well but he doesnt have the speed to match his size... hes just not a proto type NFL WR imo.(hope he proves me wrong)

I agree, just look at Ronald Curry who has turned into a very good receiver.

one thing...I've seen Craphonso Thorpe, at worst, as a top-3 WR in this draft...you don't think he's a first-rounder Herd?
You're right, he's currently ranked as the #5 WR but should be higher. I would feel more comfortable drafting him in the 2nd round than any of the big 3 (Williams, Edwards, and Clayton) in the top 10. I've already called him the SOD.

So many thing to tal about.Frst off, excellent thread but I am really surprised at some of your picks. If the coach form Cal stays, I think Rodgers might actually come back. He is undersized at 6 feet and only 200 lbs...can't take a beating in the NFL. 1. Miami: They will trade down. They will trade away 1 of their corners...probably Surtain who they can get a lot for and end up with 2 high picks in the draft. I also think they will trade out of the 1st spot. The guy they want is Antrelle Rolle and they will get him at #2, #3, or #4 so they will trade out.2. San Fran: They will pick 2nd and I am hearing they will take Matt Leinart. He fits in well with what they want to do and he puts butts in the seats as well. They have Plummer and Rumph...I don't think they will take another Miami CB this high. I would love to dissect this a lot more, I'm at work, will have to post more later.

Agreed. If he's there for the Bucs around pick #40 or so, they had better take him.Cro, Clayton and Chris :yes:Now get out there and score 3 touchdowns this weekend Cro. :football:

I don't think Miami will pass on a QB. It's only a matter of which one they take.
I think Rogers and Leinart are going to the Dolphins and 49ers. I don't know who is going to which, but I think that's how its going to shake out.Colin

It would not surprise me. I know the Niners will be oughly tempted to do something about that defensive line, but if Rattay doesn't progress over the next few weeks then they'll have little choice but to take a QB.

Aaron would look really good in a SF uni imo. pending where the lions do infact finish i think they could go anywhere from Thomas Davis mid round to Wright or Hawthorne early round... Wilkerson is gettign old and either DT would look incredible next to Shaun Rogers on their line. with James Hall and Edwards stepping up on the bookends their main hole is in the middle and saftey ???'s.

SF has too many needs to go after a QB, let alone one that is going to screw up their salary cap. They should trade down either to a late 1st pick or out of the 1st round and get a couple DB's and upgrade the OL. Rattay is cheap and they should have enough cap room to sign some good free agents. Fixing the defense and improving the OL would keep them in games and allow them to use Barlow effectively. Their offense is fine if they can keep everybody healthy and get the running game going. Then again, I'm not the 49ers GM so who knows if they will do what makes sense.
