When Lavar Arrington bought out his contract from the Redskins, I think everyone expected him to sign with someone else in a day or two because he was such an "impact player" and a "difference maker".

But it's now been two weeks almost and not a word beyond the famous "he's scheduled a visit with Team X". So maybe all the other defensive coaches knew what Gregg Williams and Gregg Blache know and that's that Lavar is a better player on paper than he is on the field.

Perhaps it's because he has overvalued himself and set his price too high. The GMs ar simply waiting for the asking price to come down. He'll sign.

I don't think it's a surprise that there are some questions about paying LaVar the obscene money. Frankly, I'm not sure any single linebacker is worth that type of money anyways.

But I don't get why people from my home town feel the need to **** on every guy we get rid of. Yeah, LaVar was a disappointment as a player, but I do think the guy meant well. Some of the things he was criticized for (such as having his own segment with John Thompson) strike me as unfair.

If he is looking for the right deal for him, just because other guys have signed quickly should not impact what he does. It's not like it's been MONTHS and no one wants him. It's been 2 weeks.

If you were looking for a new house or a new job, do you feel like you have to pick one in a week or two?

I'll cut Lavar some slack right now. And with the way money has been doled out so far, I think he might get close to what he wants.

Ridiculous! For one, w/ his agents being the Postons...nothing goes fast because they milk every penny. Also, I think J. Peterson and Lavar have been kind of waiting for each other to see waht the value is out there for their caliber of LB. Miami is really interested in Lavar and is rumored to make a push for him.

Lavar had visited several teams and each is getting a feel for each other. Since things went south for Lavar & the coaching staff in Washington, I'm sure he wants to make sure he gets in the best situation for him. Point blank, why rush? Someone will pay him and pay him well. In turn, he'll perform outstanding if in the system.

It always amazed how a team will take a player that plays certain way and try to mold him into something else. Kind of like taking a scat back and making him a power runner or asking the big power back to run sweeps/outside all the time. To Lavar's defense...you knew what he was at Penn St., why bring him in to cover TE's? Let him loose...that's what made them fall in love w/ him at first and compare him to LT.

The over-spenders have made their FA runs already. Now the players left in the FA game are teams that pay either reasonable value or are under-spenders in FA. Arrington is going to play somewhere, but I'd say that he isn't going to get the paycheck that he expected. Having the Postons as agents isn't helping his cause any - teams are very leery of the asswipes.

That doesn't affect Arrington's ability on the field now, does it? The guy can play the game, no doubt. If he can gain a bit of maturity, he's going to make some team very, very happy.

He complained for years about having too much change in the coaching staff that killed continuity on the team and in the defensive systems that he played in. So what happens when they hire by far the best coaching staff they've ever had during his time with the 'Skins and keep them beyond one year? He refuses to listen, returns to the field too early and reinjures himself, and by all accounts refuses to work to become proficient in a system. In short, he pouts, and I always thought that that was due to him seeing the defense succeed without him.

I don't hate Lavar. I think he was indeed moved around too much and largely mis-used during his first three years. I'd also predict a Pro Bowl season out of him this year if he's healthy because he has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. But let's not get carried away with how great of a team player and representative he was. He was equally responsible for the souring of that relationship with the team . . . and for the life of me I don't understand why he still has the Postons as his agents when they were a major reason for the rift that developed.

I did say that "It wasn't until the contract issue that things went sour between the two." By all means he's not innocent in everything he helped create the indifference. What's the saying? "It takes two to tango!"

Yes, I've heard rumors that the Jets are interested. (No, I don't have a link, and yes, they are speculative at best). But it would be a good fit and probably help Vilma's development

Very good summary. I'd only dispute one thing: his best season was in 2001 under Schottenheimer who designed the entire defense to enable Lavar to simply play instinctively and flow to the ball. He was a monster that year. People tend to point to 2002 under Lewis because of the sacks, but the fact is that he did little else that year to contribute to the defense. The stats are deceptive in that regard.

I tried to drink the Brunell kool-aid but it just ain't going down!The other thing people never seem to discuss (or even recognize) when they discuss Free Agent deals is the difference in cost of living in various cities. I guess I group local & state taxes, cost of homes, food etc under the same umbrella of 'cost of living'. Regardless, I'm sure every skins fan has their own opinion of him (similar to eagles fans' impressions of TO, donovan mcpuke etc) but Lavar sure looked good in the playoffs. I'm sure Lavar has his own thoughts re: the broken management promises, how they handled his injury etc as well & that in itself might be enough to want to warrant getting out of there at any cost. I think both parties benefitted. Based on the argument that he wants big attention, if he lands in a defensive scheme where he can do more freelancing and garner more attention i'd say he achieved his goal. Coach Del Rio was a LB and that in itself might be in jacksonville's favor although i think he's using them to get better offers elsewhere.

One of these days Lavar might actually live up to his predraft billing and perform as a consistent All-Pro, but until, or if, that happens I'll always consider him overrated. The guy always seems to offer excuses.

The Giants have a glaring weakness at linebacker. However I still think I'd rather see 'em pass on Arrington. I think he'll be good for a couple of redemption games a year versus the Skins but at this point, I certainly wouldn't want Accorsi to meet his salary demands.

I sincerely hope that Arrington is signed by an NFC East team. That would make 2 games a year the Redskins could count on an opponent's outside LB being out of position at least 5-6 times a game, and 2 games a year they could count on picking up considerable yardage on those plays.

True, he has a knack for making that big play that gets on Sportscenter; but if you freelance in a highly regimented defensive scheme, you'd better guess right a lot or you're gonna find yourself on Gibbs' bench.
