Hey Saints, please IR Pierre so we can enjoy.......... (1 Viewer)

I'm speculating that Thomas isn't get the carries back from Ivory. Right this second, Ivory is a better rusher than Thomas. Thomas isn't just going to waltz in and relegate Ivory to the bench, or even to 2009 Mike-Bell-type duty.

When's the last time Pierre has looked as good as Ivory looked yesterday, or the last 3 weeks? Ever?
Disclosure: I didn't see Ivory play yesterday, so I can't really compare the two, but Pierre was pretty dominant the last 6 weeks of the 2008 season:http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play...0/gamelog/2008/

looks like the arecibo message. You trying to talk to aliens?

Next week even if Pierre comes back chances are he doesn't do much, so Ivory should be good for at least another week. After that though the matchups get tough with Baltimore and ATL and Thomas might be more involved...

Rookie Ivory to remain Saints' lead runner?

Saints coach Sean Payton said Monday that he doesn't want to lighten rookie Chris Ivory's workload at all going forward, despite the impending return of Pierre Thomas and improving health of Reggie Bush.

Payton did not pull punches in his praise of Ivory, who gashed the Bengals for 117 yards and two scores on 15 carries (7.8 YPC) Sunday. "I don't want to affect his snap count at all in regards to his carries," Payton said. "Certainly [ivory] has earned the reps that he's getting now and the touches. He's a different type of runner than either Pierre or Reggie or Julius [Jones]." Dec. 6 - 8:03 pm et

Got to agree with Payton. Ivory has been really good and deserves his carries. I was debating picking up Choice-Starks-Ivory but that made my decision easy. Ivory the rest of the way.

Back in the preseason I metioned that Ivory would have a big role in the frigid away games toward the end of the Saints season. He has surpassed what I thought he would obtain for this season but I have always felt he was the heir apparent to Deuce McAllister. He is running more and more like Deuce with every passing game. I think he has earned the carries and if PT or Bush want a piece they will have to earn it on the field. Its not going to be handed to them after the way Ivory has performed.

While I am absolutely in love with Chris Ivory, I think people are underestimating the impact that Pierre Thomas' return will have on the Saints offense. He has been an invaluable asset in the passing game, particularly on screens (see his TD in the Super Bowl, a perfect example of his signature play). Ivory hasn't been used in the passing game much at all.

So, while I do think Ivory will continue to get plenty of carries, I guarantee that Pierre will return to being an important part of this offense.

Just curious would you anticipate Pierre being involved much right off the bat this week or will they ease him in? I know its impossible to really know, but based on the reports from local coverage a Saints fan probably knows better than the rest of us.

Hard to tell. Payton is as secretive as it gets when it comes to stuff like this.

Best guess is that Ivory will remain 1st & 2nd down back & Thomas will be the regular 3rd down back when he gets healthy.

I'm guessing they'll have several packages for Reggie also and try to get him around 7 - 10 touches per game.

If Thomas leaves via FA, Ivory could be huge next year.

i think they ease him in. reggie hasn't looked sharp coming back. pierre has been out too long to get back into game speed right out of the gate. payton has already said that ivory has earned the starting nod once pierre returns.

I don't think Thomas will really get going until the playoffs (see Payton's use of Reggie Bush last year).
