Was thinking last night on how THT and Helu looked during the game. I saw bits and pieces of the game and Helu just looked fresh and more electric than THT. Not sure if the writing is on the wall or not, if this is just a knee jerk reaction or not but is it time to sell THT while the getti'n good?

Thanks, I only saw bit and pieces of the game. The few plays I saw of THT he was getting hit at the line or for a loss while Helu was gaining yardage.

Don't let the box score fool you. When Helu was in, Arizona had dropped significantly back off of the line. He had all kinds of room to run that Hightower didn't. If anything, I think Hightower's smack talk made him the target of his old team, yet he still performed well.

I was thinking about this last night. The problem I see is: what could you command in a trade? Do other owners value Hightower as much as his owners do?If you were trying to upgrade at RB, would Hightower and a 2nd tier QB get you a Matt Forte?If you were trying to upgrade at WR, would Hightower command a top-10 WR like V-Jax, Mike Wallace, Jennings, etc?If you were trying to upgrade at QB, would Hightower command a QB in the Romo, Roethlisberger, Ryan range?

As a Hightower owner, the thing that concerned me the most was the Helu was getting the snaps at the end of the game...even in passing situations. If Hightower is such a valuable and superior pass protector then I would have thought Shanny would've used him in such a critical part of the game.

I'm still pretty high on Hightower and think he'll still get his 15-20 touches per game. But after week 1 it looked like he was never going to leave the field. Doesn't appear to be the case any more.

I was thinking about this last night. The problem I see is: what could you command in a trade? In an IDP Dynasty league, I was able to work a trade for Hightower and a 2013 2nd-round pick for Ryan Fitzpatrick and BenJarvus Green-Ellis. The owner I traded with has Helu, and I have Shane Vereen. Also, I have Cassel/Stanzi (rookie taxi) and McCown/Gabbert (rookie taxi) at QB , so I was understandably desperate for an option at QB after Garrard was cut and Cassel has utterly imploded (I cut Garrard to fit Fitzpatrick onto the roster).

I am in a dynasty PPR with a very very strong WR Core and virtually non-existant RBs due to underperformance. Even with that, I really doubt you can get a top 10 WR for THT. My WR3 is Bowe, and I wouldn't even give him for THT + Helu. I would imagine someone in the mid-to-late teens as a WR would be more likely.

Bowe is garbage right now along with the rest of KC. I wouldn't trade THT for Bowe.

WRs are too easy to find spot starters anyway.

That's insanity. 1st of all, bad teams mean more passing which only helps Bowe cause he will get loads of targets. 2nd, Bowe's long term value in dynasty far trumps anything Hightower is gonna be able to accomplish. I'm sure he'll be around 2X as long...

He's faced two very stout run defenses and managed solid fantasy points. He's not a stud but still tremendously undervalued. Helu got extra work because Hightower already had 45 carries in two games. At that rate he will be dead legged by week 8.

You can't trade him because he is on everyone's bust list going forward. Start him as your RB 2 or flex and enjoy the consistent mid teen output.

LC's post is pretty obvious, but it's really the right answer. Everybody has a price, despite what general market conditions may be saying. The only post in this thread reporting a market value is THT + a 2nd rounder 2 years out for Lawfirm and Fitzpatrick. In my opinion, if that's all people are able to squeeze out of THT, then he's a hold or a buy right now. As a caveat, I'm not a fan at all of Lawfirm (I have him as RB45) or and I may be lower than most on Fitzpatrick (QB22), so if you happen to like those guys, or if Mark's league has some odd settings inflating QBs, then I can see making the deal. For comparison, I have THT as RB27.I will say though, that if he's not at least your top back-up RB, he's a lot closer to being a sell than if he's starting for you. I don't think he's anywhere near talented enough where you can relax each off season. He's too close to mediocre for the Redskins not to look closely at a difference-making talent, should he become available to them (either through the draft, or knowing Washington, free agency).

Helu will be getting some carries every week. The coaches love what he adds to the run game. Whether that leads to a "big game" will be entirely dependent on the match up.The coaches, especially Mike, IMO, also love Torain. He runs with more power and he sees the holes/cutback lanes better than any of the other RBs on the roster. He will get his carries until he stops performing or gets hurt.

Two thoughts on: The running game

1. Ryan Torain is their best runner, something I believed even when the Redskins traded for Tim Hightower. Torain is more decisive on his cuts and runs with more power than Hightower. When the Redskins traded for Hightower, a couple scouts bemoaned his lack of explosiveness and we’re seeing that right now. There are times when he plants and cuts very well, but other times his feet shuffle too much when going to cut or he’ll miss the hole.

Remember, when he was in Arizona the Cardinals drafted running backs in the first and second rounds, not wanting him in a full-time role. He’s capable of good games then in others looking very ordinary. Torain showed a knack vs. the Rams of cutting the moment he saw the hole; there was little wasted movement and it enabled him to maintain his power through the hole. It’s why he totaled at least 100 yards after first contact. His runs energize a sideline. But can he stay healthy? And can he be consistent in protection? Those are big questions he must still answer.

2. A three-headed attack can work. What helps Washington is that each of the three running backs offers something of value. Torain is a good runner; Hightower is a good third-down back if nothing else; Roy Helu offers speed and change-of-pace. Add it up and they can afford to go with the so-called hot hand (or feet). In the past the Redskins did not have three backs who could help like this (sorry Rock Cartwright but it’s true). Helu needs more experience, but there was an improvement this past week in pass protection. For one of the few times I saw him keep his head up when taking on a rusher and that’s a positive sign. He also has the best hands when it comes to ball security (no fumbles in four years of college).

I know a lot of people are going to read #2 and scream "RBBC!!!". That may be true depending on ones definition, but the Redskins want to be running the ball 30+ times a game, and Torain has proven that he can be a viable fantasy option with 15-20 touches a game.
