Home Field Advantage in fantasty football playoffs (1 Viewer)

Just like every-year we have a guy in the league :hot: because although he had the best team all year he was beaten in the SHFFL playoffs. Of course most of the league will either :lmao: or tell him to :ptts: but it kept me thinking :goodposting:

We have a two week playoff to try to offset the bad-week, random occurrence, injuries etc. but every year we get complaints to see how this can be improved.

in lieu of a true home-field advantage I came up with the following idea.

Take the difference in total points of the two teams (200 points for argument sake) and divide it by total regular season game (12 games in our case)---> 16.66 points.

Give the higher ranked team these points since they are not getting a home-field advantage for having had a better regular season record.

As I mentioned we have a two week playoff so in this case the 16.66 points would be added once to the total combined score of weeks 15 and 16.

**if the higher ranked team has not outscored the lower-ranked team, no extra points are given.**

We do a home field advantage for fantasy. It's automatically 10% of your average score for the regular season. Good teams usually get a free TD+FG from home field. Weaker home field teams get around a free TD.We run a 3 week playoffs with 8 teams. If we didnt have the extended playoffs we would drop the homefield. As it is, the HFA doesnt usually make a difference. It DOES add something to play for all season though. You want to squeeze every point out of every game to make your HFA as high as possible at the end of the year. And you always want to host games in the playoffs. Superbowl is always neutral site.

I like that idea too.. 10% of your average score.. but I was thinking it should be based on the difference between the two teams

We have a variable flex where the home team gets to pick the flex for both teams between QB RB WR TE. It adds an interesting element to the week but doesn't have a significant impact on the week.

We use HFA that's a combination of record differential in the standings (1 point per game) and point differential. But we cap it at 4 points, because sometimes the HFA can get pretty crazy with that equation.

We've always used a basic 3-point HFA for the higher seeded team as a reward for having the better regular season and because it is the standard number used by handicappers.

Been there. Done that. I tried this exact formula for home field advantage several years ago although it was applied to the traditional one week playoff format. The advantage turned out to be too much for most owners liking and it was scrapped for a flat 3 point advantage.
