Have you ever had them do this? Did it work well? I tried the Ben Moore and Behr color match apps on my phone against ACTUAL PAINT CHIPS from the store and they weren't even close. I'm sure the in-store systems are better...I'm hoping a LOT better...

Yes. I've taken a piece of sheet rock. the only issue is you're getting the faded color palette and not what the original color was so if you're ever repainting from fresh it's going to be the current faded color if that make sense

I've tried this and not been happy with the results. If it's me, I bite the bullet and repaint, really is not that long assuming nothing crazy / nonlinear in the bathroom

That's disappointing. Zero chance I repaint the whole thing myself...I have little to no time thanks to the kids these days...not to mention that bathroom is exactly what you noted above...semi-hexagonal shape, tons of trim, tile work, built-in's that are a different color, etc. I'll keep trying different quart cans for a month until I get it right. It's literally a 2' x 2' space, but it's also right by the door where you see it.

gotcha. Well at a maximum you can just paint that wall. As long as it's close won't be able to tell (enough shadows in the bathroom that colors never match wall to wall)

Having a granite counter installed in my laundry room. kicker is that it is supported on one side by cabinets, however it extends about 4 or so feet past the last counter and will be supported by legs at the other end. This gives my wife space to slide laundry baskets and such under it and have a good folding area. The install company is saying I need to have the support brackets installed before they template. Problem is IDK what type of bracket or what type of span i need. I'm trying to get in touch with the instal team but no luck yet.
Also doing a slab over my washer & dryer that will be a 59 inch span that will also need backing, but its a deeper piece then the countertop depth, more like 36ish inches
Anyone know the proper brackets to use and typical granite tolerances?
edit: found these....i guess this is my answer. still concerned about the larger piece IDK if i need to construct some sort of wood frame as well

Haha a few months ago we had a wet spot on the ceiling (12') in the master bedroom. I was like that doesn't look like water. The next night we had 100 bees in the bedroom. They were lethargic and easy to kill too. Took three hours and one sting. Best you find where they're coming in.shuke said:

I would do basic L brackets, make sure you screw into studs. Mfr should state what they are rated for. Find out the weight (load) of the granite piece. I would assume no credit for the cabinet support and just size the brackets to support whatever extends beyond the cabinet.
If if there’s a trick it’s making sure it’s level. I’d probably put a piece of plywood in temporarily to be sure I hit level when installing

For some reason pricing went up $100 in the last 30 days... trying to wait it out but will pull the trigger either way this month

I also added a quarter turn ball valve whole house water shutoff. If you guys don't have one, highly recommend it. My existing was a gate valve, took about a minute of strenuous turning to close it off - not something I am confident my wife/kids could/would do in a pinch.
For < $20 I bought a 3/4" sharkbite valve at the Depot. Already had the pipe cutter tool (again < $20). Took about 5 mins to install including waiting for the water to drain off. Can now shut the water off to the house with two fingers in two seconds

I don't even know why they make the old gate valves anymore. They either take forever or seize up. The ball valves are so much better.
Question re. sharkbite fittings - I read they're not code complaint for in-wall use - any idea if that's true? The last time I moved our powder room sink, I was going to use them but read this and was scared away.

with valves any valves the key is to you know actually operate them once in a while too many people will not touch one for a decade or more and then be surprised it does not work brohans if you sat in a chair getting covered with calcium and rust and every other damned thing for a decade you would not work too well either that is all i am sayin take that to the just turn the thing once or twice a year bank bromigos

they are rated in wall, but I personally wouldn't use one in wall...solder only for me where I can't put eyes / hands on it

It was from them burrowing through the drywall. Sounded like a squirrel on the roof.
The ceiling is 12 'high.

"Honey I think there is mold in my shower, we need to take the tile off to see if there is a leak." No leak, no mold, brand new tiled shower. Had so much fun cutting tile in the garage in freezing temperatures we thought we'd go ahead and buy the tile on sale at $0.98/SF to redo the bathroom down stairs and the laundry room floors.
Is using wax still the way to go to seal up a toilet? Some of the other types of seals look like they have promise, but, when you get to reading they fail and don't hold up to toilet bowl cleaners, bleach and such. After taking off the downstairs toilet to start the tile work it's pretty clear I need to take off and double check all the other toilets in the house. The flanges aren't anywhere near top of floor level and not sealed at all if there were to be a leak in the wax. Going to bring up to floor level plus by using spacers and then seal to the baseboard using grout or silicone. Any tips appreciated.

Any knowledgeable types in here have any suggestions on a quiet(er?) well pump option? We've got a pump at a cabin that is on my to-do list... makes a prolonged loud sound every time a faucet is used, toilet flushed, any small use of water. I took a look at soundproofing over last weekend, but that would be difficult given the location of the pump (centralized in the cabin). The pump must be indoors, given the all-season need in a tundra climate. I don't know much about pumps, whether they truly need to refill each small water use, whether this noise may just be due to age of the pump, etc. Can anyone recommend a solution?

Any good recommendations for clearing tree roots from sewer line?
its backed up like 3 times in the last month (neighbor is a plumber and he’s cleared it for me) but recommend I get a camera in there and it’s full of roots
company recommend hydro blasting for $1250 or adding a liner for $7K. Will probably take my chances with the hyrdo blasting and then drop some root killer down the clean out every 6 months to try and prevent it
so wondering if anyone has had experience with the blasting and also any alternative methods
i did throw some foaming root killer down there but not sure i have time to wait it out since it basically starts backing up within a week or two

What price you get for digging it up and installing new?
To me, roots are gonna grow. Nature is not easily stopped, and root killer seems unlikely to work. Hydro blasting sounds like a temporary fix to me. Correct fix seems to be dig down, cut tree roots way back / remove tree possibly? install new line.

Dig and replace was 10K+, not really something I want to spend at the momentwilked said:
yeah the blasting is 3-5 years. The tree has already been removed but they said roots will continue to grow (and city planted a new tree). Also it’s right at the edge of the street so possibly would have to get city involved and price goes way up if they had to dig streetside for any reason

Do almost all with the help of my kids and working 40 hours a week. Although I did hire two guys to install a furnace. Could have did it but I've got enough on my plate. Also plan on hiring drywallers(while on vacation) but that is it. For nailers I've always used dewalt(framing) and bostitch(roof, and trim). Sockets craftsman wrenches, irwin plyers and whatever the cheapest from harborfreight.

shuke this is going back about 35 to 40 years or more but we used to have this old kind of compressed woodchip cardboardy looking siding on our joint who knows it was probably 90 percent asbestos anyhow it would chip up occassionally at its edges and basically it stunk well behind a row of shrubs on the side of our place in one of those chip up areas bees had gotten in there and built a hive between the studs behind the siding and we would get rouge bees just one or two a week or so in our basement as they worked inside somehow and that was even in the winter when it would hit a warm snap i guess anyhow the next spring i noticed it before the trees really came in and it was a big pain in the butt but i got it out of there and that ended our basement bees i am not saying you have that but i wish to hell i had figured out what was going on with our place sooner because i am pretty sure clean up would have been easier so look all i am saying is look around take that to the bank bromigo

Depending on where u live it might be to cold for them to move. I was tearing off old siding on rehab and I came across a huge nest. I just smashed them with my hand a couple thousand it was so satisfying! Not having to be worried about being stung. Temp was around 32 degrees.

Replaced fluorescent fixtures in my kitchen with track lighting last week. Was a little more work than I thought since there were no wire boxes mounted above them to mount the track fixtures (the fluoros were each mounted with several screws directly into the ceiling 
) so I had to cut holes in the ceiling to mount the boxes from below. Fun. Luckily, the hole where the wires were fed through from the attic were right next to a joist so I was able to mount the boxes fairly easily. At the end of the day, it got done and they look pretty good.
Today I had to replace the master bath sink faucet. Went to Lowes and picked one up along with a pair of 16"supply lines. Got home and realized that the lines were longer than I needed, so I measured from the fixture to the lines in the wall and it was 12 inches. So I took the 16 inchers back to Lowes and swapped them out for 12" lines. Got home and when I went to install them the damn things were about a half inch short. No way to make them work.
So, back to Lowes (3rd time today) and got the 16 inchers and finally got the job done.
What should have been about a 30 minute job turned into 2+ hours and 3 trips to Lowes.
