Honda Pilot Guys (1 Viewer)

Looking to possibly get my wife a new 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L 2WD.

MSRP is 37,545. Did the TrueCar thing and the best price that was emailed back from a dealer was $3,200 off.

How much lower can I realistically look to get that price lowered?

Did he exact same thing when buying my wife's Pilot last year.  Didn't get much more off, though I did get them to throw in the roof rack.

Good link. Not looking to wait around on 2018 models. Time to replace the 04 Envoy.

I bought a Pilot Elite for my wife earlier this year and it was a tough, I had one dealer that would only go 1K below sticker and another only 1.5k below. Finally i got a deal I could live with but it wasn't much lower than True Car. At least in my area, very low inventory.

Maybe not so much waiting for the '18s, but maybe wait for when the new model year rumblings get a little louder and take advantage of some bigger discounts on the 2017s. That said, if Baloney's shopping experience is any indication, $3K off may be worth NOT waiting for the 2018s approach.

I just replaced an 03 and the Piloteers web site saved me a lot of time and $$ as a two left thumbs DIYer.

In the end, I ended up getting like $3600 off sticker but I dealt with 7 dealerships before I got there.

I found the best way to work with the dealers is to do everything through their online department. For the OP, you now have a ceiling for what you will pay. Reach out to a few other internet managers and ask them to beat it.

I have a 15 pilot LE (4wd, upgraded wheels, lights etc.).  I did the true car thing then emailed the dealers seeing if they could beat it.  One came in lower.  Took that offer to my closest dealer and told them I'd buy then and there if they beat it.  They did and I got a great deal.. Around $5000 off sticker.

This is what I did, as well, in 2011 when I bought a new Pilot EX-L. I did the Consumer Reports Build and Buy (which is the same as TrueCar), then looked at the dealers who weren't on the list. One dealer said it would beat any other dealer's offer by $300. So I emailed that dealer, gave the CR/TrueCar quote, and the dealer said he would beat it. Then I took that quote back to the closest Consumer Reports dealer and asked him to beat it. He did. I did everything by email so that there was a paper trail. I also prearranged financing through a credit union where I already had a loan, because I didn't want to deal with the dealership's credit department. I think sticker price was $34,700, and we ended up paying $30,600 out the door.

I've been told the dealer gives a better deal if you finance through them but if that's at 0.9 or whatever rate, is that really the case?

We're more than a year away from buying our next car, I'll try to follow your lead.

Emailed the three TrueCar internet dealers and asked for the absolute best offer. (Phone has been ringing off the hook, been ignoring it) Two responded so far with almost identical offers. One is showing window tinting, the other isn't. (pretty much a must in AZ). Both are coming in right over $38K all in.

Closest dealer:

37,545 MSRP

(3,331) discount

34,214 Offer Price

399 window tint

34,613 Selling Price

2,700 Sales Tax

20 Misc Fees

499 Doc Fee

631 Lieu Tax (I assume this is license?)

38,463 Total out the door

Other offer is $38,065.56 but i don't see window tint on there (unless it's included).

What's the TrueCar thing?
Dealerships agree to a price that's lower than sticker price, I guess in the hope to get you in the door. But the deal is that they have to honor that price. It makes for a good starting point for negotiations.

So dealers will send you actual quotes through true car?

I have like 7 quotes. All are coming in around $34k+ as a discounted MSRP. I emailed 6 of them and asked if they could come closer to $32k. Hopefully one does and then I can take that to the other one which is the closest geographically and they will match or beat.

One just emailed me back and told me to pound sand.

Actually they asked if I would consider a lower trim level if that was my budget.

Ask him if he'd take an uglier chick at the bar to save a few bucks on Tequila shots?  Hell no, give me that Pilot!

If your wife's current car is functional,  she doesn't NEED to replace it this weekend/month.

Another 8 to 10 days,  the dealer will NEED to make quota.

Purchase done. Ended up dropping that 37,545 MSRP down to 33,000. They did get me with 895 in add-ons. Shiny new black Pilot in the garage.

Got rear-ended by one.

A Honda Pilot that is. Not a Honda Pilot guy.  NTTIAWWT

Looking at similar SUVS right now myself.  Since we bought a house my audi and wife's VW CC are no longer practical for buying bigger items.

Test drove the new Volkswagon Atlas today and loved it.  Wondering what else is out there right now I should look at. I think I'm between the Atlas and a Jeep Cherokee.

Are the Pilots chick cars?

Pilots, no.

CR-V, yes. But I drive one anyway.

My wife has a Pilot Elite and it is pretty sweet, captains chairs in the second row. However, we got it because the third row is legit and have kids. If you are not hauling kids, check out the Mazda CX-9. Great SUV.

We didn't go with the Elite because of the stupid center console.

Side Note: I have a 2016 sunroof visor going up on the trade thread shortly.  Don't all rush at once.

Slightly off topic, will soon be starting the process of identifying a replacement for my 2003 Pilot that is 175K miles into it's useful life as we will be passing down to family soon.

Anyone have one of these OG Pilots where they have replaced the head unit for the stereo with one that has Bluetooth?  Figure I may as well enjoy that for the next 12-18 months before I pass this beast along.
