Hoping to get some suggestions on winning a survivor style NFL pickem league. (1 Viewer)

This survivor pool lets you pick any team each week, but once picked, you can never pick them again until the season is over   The playoffs start it over and the you can use any team one more time  you get a mulligan for the reg season

I am hoping for some help with what I need to review or look for when picking a team. What website do you use for the best advice?

I have a couple of entries in an NFL survivor contest, but I always seem to stink in them. I pick the sure winner, favored by 12 and I still lose.

What sites do you use for information? What are you looking for in your picks?

thank you

Not sure the FFA forum is the place for that question. The Shark Pool might be better for that sort of stuff.

As it is, draft Antonio Gates and bump Finley, for the love of everything sacred.

The winner

Wasn’t sure where to put this topic.  Other than the winner, just curious what others look for when playing in a survivor pool.  I feel like I pick the right teams that are going to win but they usually end up losing to a team they should have easily beat.

I've never sniffed the finish line of a survivor pool, so I can relate. But this forum is really more about general topics and other sports. You'll find a surprising love of soccer here. Anyway, I wish I had tips for you, but I don't. Seriously, check the Shark Pool.

Eveyone typically goes for the easy target and every year 1 or 2 big upsets happen early knocking off 20-35% of the pool.

I'd go with the close matchup of 2 middle to bad teams and try landing the winner.

If you hit, you didn't burn a stud avoided the upset amd used a team many would not use.

Jets/Bills

Lions/Cards

49ers/Bucs

How much is the prize pool and how much work are you willing to put into it?

You need to somehow balance taking a "sure thing" vs. playing the long game of not using all your best cards early.  One way is to look at the opponent more than the team you are choosing. Miami seems like a mess, so I might consider the Ravens as the play even though they are the road team.

If possible avoid division games, road teams and prime time games

also try to avoid the the biggest favorite of the week

and never bet in the Lions

I try and map out my season's picks in advance, but that can all blow up when you get that dark horse team that over performs their initial forecast. I usually do well in these things, but there are years you just can't help. We had a smaller survivor league last year with a decent payout---every team but one lost week one.  Shortest survivor contest in history, but my wife took the pot so I didn't care.

First off, how are you?

Best advice is to not try to get too cute.  Don't pass on a great matchup because you want to save the team for later.  Go for what you think is the best chance each week.

Also, get Greg Camarillo active.

Don't take road teams until you are desperate.  Don't check the schedule and plan in advance.  Take the best bet home team you find that week.
