For sure. Alicent sucks

The long gap didn't help Alicent's cause in the eyes of viewers. We didn't experience it due to the time jump, but she's been banging this old decrepit dude for over 10 years and kicking out babies out of a sense of duty to family and country. There's some truth to what she said to Rhaenyra about her doing whatever she wants during this time with no worries. And in the climactic scene, her husband the king takes the side of the kids who are obviously not legitimate heirs rather than his own legitimate sons and says its treason to say what everyone knows is true. She obviously overreacted, but its easy to see how pissed off she would be at that whole situation. Hopefully she's at least getting some side action from Cristan.

Based on only what we’ve seen, she’s been behind all of the sowing of the bad seeds. All due to her father making he marry a dude falling apart so she could challenge Rhaenyra’s rule. If her dad didn’t push that, we wouldn’t have a war. Then again, there’s be no show to watch. She’s clearly going against the king and the king made his heir know well before. No sympathy for her from me since she clearly started it. We know it ends badly for all but she got it going.

Sort of. I think more her father than her. He pushed her to become the Kings choice in marriage. Once she delivered boys, she kinda had no choice but to push their claim to the throne. Her father was right that society wouldn’t accept Rhaenyra over Aegon and that Rhaenyra would have no choice but have the boys killed. Unfortunately, that placed them at odds.

There’s a war so we know they would be placed at odds. I’m only saying that Alicent on screen has clearly been a worse person than Rhaenyra. She’s teed up her boys for battle and fed them what their father said to not mention. She also had Rhaenyra’s baby daddy killed. Again, this show is based on a war, so it has to happen but she’s been painted in a much worse light. If there wasn’t a book behind it, she didn’t have to start the fight. The king decided his heir before she was involved.

It’s probably a losing side (Mad King was Targaryen so her brown haired boys don’t have good odds at Caesars), but I’m also team Rhaenyra.

I do have to say . . . for not having a lot of "action" yet, this show does a great job with keeping you engaged with the dramatic tension.

I thought it was nice that the king got to die thinking that he had successfully brought the two sides of his family back together.

Yep, already knew about the war and knew the peace would never last.

We had discussed the whole dagger, prince who was promised and some of us thought they might expound on it. I was disappointed that it was solely used to start the war again so to speak.

I never even thought about that but yeah, it’s got to take a few years for dragons to get big so these eggs likely have zero to do with this war.

Aemon won’t be seen as far as I can tell. His great great grandfather was just born on the show. Aeggy is his brother, Daenerys’ grand father. If this show is mainly about the war and only 3 (?) seasons, I can’t imagine they get to him in any way.

At the end of Episode 7, I think there were three dragons flying back to King's landing with Team Hightower's ship as it left Driftmark. I assume the third dragon was Helaena. They haven't showed her riding a dragon, but there was a comment in an earlier episode (6?) that Aemond was the only one without a dragon before he claimed Vhaegar. So the Greens have at least 3.

I don't think they've showed any dragon-riding with Rhaenyra's kids nor with Daemon/Laena's kids, but they are Targs and I expect all will be dragon-riders - likely more of that in season 2. Also, Rhaenys is definitely a dragon-rider but its not really clear which team she is on just yet.

One big question for me is what becomes of Laenor's dragon - Seasmoke? Since he's not actually dead, would the dragon follow him wherever he's going or would it be able to bond with a new rider? Kind of a book-geek question but I will be looking to see how they resolve that.

I'm not certain the three eggs Daemon collected at the beginning of this episode are Dany's dragons. Hadn't thought of that but I guess its possible? Those events are still a couple hundred years away. I think he said the three eggs were from Rhaenyra's dragon Syrax. My assumption is that he is saving them for his kids and the kids he has with Rhaenyra.

We're not not going to get that story until Martin finishes writing it. And maybe not even then. I find it more of a "Nans Tale" Maybe something like the Old Testament. Were prophets spring up by the dozens and spread the word on the coming messiah.

Personally I don't think the Prince that was Promised will/should ever be actually named. It will be left to the reader/viewer to decide who they believe in. It should be left as a parallel to modern day religion.

Also, per the same podcast, they believe the show is intentionally making eye patch kid (Aemon?) look like Daemon since they will be the primary battle figures.

When Alicent woke him up, she said something like, "you bring shame to your wife and the family" That's the only reference I heard to him being married. That's why I was confused at the dinner table scene and when Rhaenyra's son took her to dance, he didn't look happy.

That serving girl knows more than just about anyone in Westeros. She's been in the background during key discussions so much its become a running joke on the Ringer podcast. That was an interesting reveal as her information is probably extremely valuable.

You mean Aemond beating Criston in the yard but yeah. They are definitely making Aemond into the tough guy on that side while Daemon is on the other. Those two also control the two most powerful dragons. Cole has to be in his 40s now I’d guess.

He never rally held back when he was training them before. He was kinda slapping them around lol. They looked like they were going full bore to me.
