The ages of the kids/actors are getting a bit confusing. Interesting they just showed Dameon beating Cristan Cole in the training yard and we know Cole beat Daemon about 15 years ago at the tournament in episode 1 or 2.

Viserys hanging on too long (like his grandfather) is kind of the point though right? These questions about succession get harder the longer animosity has to mature on the Green side.

I thought that the whole point of this first "prologue" season. Viserys was a bad king who made bad decisions, and everybody in his court spent the last twenty years of his life jockeying for position while waiting for him to die. The fact that he seemed five minutes away from death for the past three episodes is motivating a lot of behavior.

I took the look as just shame from her son raping the help.

To have it end up being a silly means to get Alicent fired up to start a war again really made it all meaningless. I was a bit disappointed that somehow we seemed to get to peace and then it became the way to get the war back on track. Seems like we won’t get any more detail about it.

You had to know the peace wasn't gonna last, though, right? It didn't even last through dinner.

I don't think it was meant that way but the more I think about it today, I could see it being construed as a threat. At the end, after the kids are sent to their rooms and Rhaenyra and Alicent are chumming it up, Rhaenyra says I'll run the kids home and return...on dragonback. Insert ominous background music.

Or maybe it was foretelling of her return after they bury the skeleton?

It felt, to me, like they were foreshadowing the nastiness to come when Rhaenyra said she'd come back alone.

What's the team stats on dragons, now? Team Hightower has Aemon and Aegon with their dragons, and Aemon is shaping up to be the big, bad.

Team Rhaenyra has her and Daemon, but do her kids have dragons, too? They had them in the training pits when Aemon got the pig with wings. Did they pair bond, or whatever, with their dragons?

Nice callback in the show, too, when Daemon went and grabbed the three eggs that eventually ended up being Dany's dragons.

Has this been confirmed? I thought the same in the moment.

Also, as for callbacks, when do we get to see the old Maester at the wall in GoT who talks about "Aeggy" in what I assume are his old age delusions?

I never even thought about that but yeah, it’s got to take a few years for dragons to get big so these eggs likely have zero to do with this war.

It’s going to get worse before it gets better. I posted in here before that I read a Wili page about someone and it mentioned a bunch of kids and it lost me because all the current names are similar and it seems like kids have a choice of about 8 different options. Throw in sibling/cousin marriages and you’ll soon have battles where you honestly won’t know who’s winning.

I think we know Aemond and Daemon are the key people because no one else has their names and they decided to make Aemond grow up twice as fast. I think I can keep them straight but the rest, forget about it.

I have the "Fire and Blood" audio book. And it's just insane how many characters have the same name. Toss in the Targ incest factor, and it's damn near impossible to keep track of the players.

For me, the Viserys death bed confusion scene felt cheap - its like they wanted to set up a romantic version where the women really want to reconcile but its ruined by a slapstick mistaken identity plot device. I think it would be better to just recognize that they have to go to war because whoever takes power will absolutely imprison or kill all the other side and their kids on day 1.

Yeah. I question the inclusion of the prophecy at all. Any time I hear about the Prince that was promised it is impossible not to think of the completely awful end to GoT. Show has broadly exceeded my expectations (this episode was awesome), but the prophecy stuff has felt forced so far.

But Daemon decided to grab it, and help him....and they both told the director that scene should stay in because of how it showed as much as they battled, there was still a brotherly affection there. I agree. Knowing that scene was somewhat ad libbed made it even a little more cool.

Agreed - he thought he was talking to his daughter rather than his wife. Alicent didn't realize that because she has no idea about the prophecy and he could barely speak. At the same time, Rhaenyra is absent so she can't nip it in the bud - has to run the kids back home and then return on her dragon. It is a Three's Company style situation that is completely unnecessary. (still a very good show)

I felt the same about the serving girl Aegon raped. In Martin's world and I think in GOT they would just kill her off, but in this show they have Alicent hugging her and giving her money and trusting she won't tell anyone.

I don't know enough about movie making to know if rehearsal footage would match actual shooting enough to use a rehearsal shot.

Extremely appropriate I guess that they have set up the entire basis for the fight that will take up the next two seasons based on Alicent thinking Viserys‘ dying words were about her son Aegon rather than King Aegon I.

Agreed, but I think the whole prophecy thing is 100% from the HBO show writers rather than from Martin's history. I don't think the Greens v Blacks story requires this prophecy plotline. For me, the Viserys death bed confusion scene felt cheap - its like they wanted to set up a romantic version where the women really want to reconcile but its ruined by a slapstick mistaken identity plot device. I think it would be better to just recognize that they have to go to war because whoever takes power will absolutely imprison or kill all the other side and their kids on day 1.

I didn't get the impression Alicent came away with the good faith impression that he wanted her son to be King or that Viserys was legit trying to change his heir on his deathbed. She had kind of a cynical look on her face as she walked away; I think she thought that his statement gave her some pretext for what she was going to do anyway.
