House of the dragon. Game on! (1 Viewer)

Bunch of prudes in here getting squeamish over the cripple getting his rocks off from Alicent’s feets. Let the guy have his kink. We all know he couldn’t log onto PH back then.
Certainly not cringe worthy. I mean BFD..He likes feet. And it made it a little more.......naughty? considering it was the Queen's feet.

At least we know that the GOT white worms learned from her mistake of being so open about kidnapping the soon to be king. She didn’t even make it a whole season.
I don't think they got the white worm. She's smarter then that. Until you see a body. Probably just made themselves a powerful enemy.
Possibly, but IIRC, they showed a body at a window and while that could be a red herring, it made me think that was supposed to show her death because there was no other purpose.
I just rewatched this part and did not see a body burning in the window. 🤷‍♂️
Yeah I watched it multiple times to check it out. That place is in full flame mode. No way anyone could be still standing at that point. To me it was showing they went after the White worm. No one is dead in tv or movies until you see thier body, and sometimes a body doesn't prove dead especially in a fire death as we have seen in this show.

Makes it seems just as much, if not more, about power than the specific kink IMO

I don’t even remotely start to get excited until the midget and farm animals show up so it’s gonna take a little more than a cute pair of feet to get me to snub my nose.

"I once brought a jackass and a honeycomb into a brothel..."

I don't really keep track of the different dragons and who owns who but why was that dragon beneath the castle?
Is that the same one that one of the kids stumbled on to in an earlier episode?
That’s the dragonpit, they are all kept there. We’ve been down there a few times earlier in the season. I guess they chose it for the coronation because they wanted the regular people to cram in there and see it.

Kinda BS that they force the masses into watch the coronation, then the dragon comes out and kills many, who did nothing wrong......Seems pretty crappy.
Agreed, and good catch. That was intentional and wasn’t just some throw away thing.

"The common people pray for rain, healthy children, and a summer that never ends," Ser Jorah told her. "It is no matter to them if the high lords play their game of thrones, so long as they are left in peace." He gave a shrug. "They never are."

Wonder if Rhaenys would be open to a September-December romance? The gimp can keep the feet, I have a thing for bad *** women who ride bad *** dragons as they kick ***. I think I'm in love.

This first season ended up being really good and definitely scratched an itch for me. Sure, it was basically one long prologue, but so what? I'm down for a long, sweeping story that extends over multiple decades.

Then again, I have to admit that I feel like I'm still only at about 85% on who some of these characters even are, considering how so many of them look alike, have similar names, are inter-married in various combinations, and are played by different actors in different episodes. I should go back and just rewatch the whole thing knowing what I know now about who ends up where. I'll probably do that before season 2 comes out.

It was hilarious when Rhaenyra also named her son Aegon just to really mock everyone trying to keep track. But they drove it home last week with the twin brothers Erryck and Arryck. If you didn't have close captioning on they would sound and look exactly alike. Both white cloaks, exact same beard, hair and clothing/armor, but apparently will fall on opposite sides.

Watched it last night. #### gets real.

This is exactly what I told the wife we need to do.

With GOT, I watched every episode twice before the next one. I'll prob just start doing that next season.

Poor kid and his snack-sized dragon. Didn't stand a chance.

Another ridiculous gratuitous birthing scene. Just beyond absurd and unnecessary at this point.

I'm sure I'll watch when this show comes back in 2 years, but CGI dragon fights just don't move the needle for me. When the early seasons of GOT's ended, it was torture waiting for the next one. Waiting for more of this won't be a big deal.

I try not to be sensitive about things and this isn’t the show for that but that miscarriage scene could have been very tough if you lived through a miscarriage. Absolutely insane there wasn’t a warning before the episode.

I must be watching a different show than the rest of you. Then again I’m not a professional critic and just an average viewer who enjoys good television. I can’t wait for the next season.
Episode was good, season was really good imo. I thought all the birthing stuff was disgusting.

Don’t love the way the show writers are making Rhaenyra such a sympathetic character to make this a good v evil story. Same with Alicent, Daemon and others. This narrative that Aemond didn’t mean to kill Luc but just lost control of his dragon? It’s like they think they need to soften all the hard edges on these characters to make them likeable.

Yeah, I thought they decided to end the season with the coronation and dragon appearance. Looks like I've got one more. :bag:

I mean.....did we REALLY need to hear a stillborn newborn smack onto a stone floor?

Just gross and purely for shock value. Added absolutely nothing to the show whatsoever.
I just fast forwarded through it. No need for another birthing scene

Yea me too. Woke up this morning and saw there was another so managed to get it in before work.

I thought the finale was good but definitely not great. It was kind of obvious something was going to happen to Lord Strong as he was scared to go and Rhaenyra telegraphed the no fighting.

I will say that I don’t think Aemond felt bad about killing his cousin. I think he realized that he started the war and gave Rhaenyra’s side ammo to say they are evil usurpers.

Overall, good season but I could go the rest of this series without another childbirth scene. It’s just gratuitous at this point and didn’t have anything to do with anything. Her son getting killed was the turning point. The stillborn had 0 consequence. She was already in the I don’t want to kill everyone mode before that.

I would have liked the finale to be a little longer (maybe 1.5 hours) and go into how the other brother's visit went with his dragon. Did he encounter another "greenie" on his visit?

Also, can someone explain the scene with Daemon and the dragon where he was singing. What dragon was that? Where was he?

I like the show but thought that final scene illustrated the shows’s shortcomings. Due to the show’s pacing, we had no real reason to care about the kid - the interesting thing about that whole sequence was the CGI dragon fight. Which was cool looking and had shock value, but the death didn’t exactly pull at the heartstrings. And of course the show’s obsession with filming childbirth is one of the most bizarre creative decisions in a major show I can remember.

Really just gratuitous. Absolutely no point or need for it. And to Cappy’s point above, really hard to watch.
Makes you think that they put an emphasis on it as if to make sure we realized that women are running things and giving birth is obviously something a man can’t do. This one was truly gratuitous with no bearing on anything, but I can see people in a writer’s room saying they need to show it to make sure we know. As if we can’t figure out that the queens and Rhaenys are powerful.

I thought that was one of the free agent dragons he mentioned earlier in the episode that were unclaimed. Assume it’s going to be an arms race for each side to get as many dragons as possible.

Sure, Daemon had a speech earlier about dragons and how that will win the war. He mentioned the ones on Driftmark (like Laenor’s) and maybe 3 wild ones on Dragonstone. He was going into the dragon pit to “talk” to one of the wild ones, obviously a pretty big one.

They did seem to make Aemond’s dragon even bigger than I thought it was. Would be interesting if it wasn’t really correct. It seemed like the entire dragon into the big dragon’s mouth.

Just read:

"Later in the episode, Daemon journeys under the Dragonmont on Dragonstone, where he encounters a very large dragon and sings to it in High Valyrian. That dragon is Vermithor, and he hasn't had a rider since Jaehaerys, the king before Viserys.

As Daemon points out, there are several riderless dragons roaming Westeros, including Laenor's old dragon Seasmoke. If the Blacks can find dragonriders, they'll get more dragons, and their advantage over the Greens will grow. Vermithor doesn't attack Daemon, so step one in his plan seems to be a success. Season 2 will likely see Daemon seeking out a new crop of dragonriders and teaching them... how to train their dragons."

Yep, just replied on that. Not sure if it’ll be an arms race since it seems like all the non claimed dragons are on Driftmark and Dragonstone. Seems like it might be more of can Rhaenyra’s side add more dragons or not.

We have become so accustomed to screen violence that childbirth scenes are now more objectionable than lopping off heads.
It’s not too gross or anything. Lopping off the head served a purpose and settled a claim/alliance. Last night’s childbirth had 0 impact on any story line, so it was gratuitous. My wife had a miscarriage (in the middle of 3 great boys) and that scene didn’t bother me at all aside from it being unnecessary knowing someone in the show folks said we need to show it graphically.

The first childbirth scene had no complaints because it changed the entire story (Alicent married Viserys and gave him heirs). No one is complaining about the dragon bits from last night because it started the war.

I've waisted my fair share of time in the PSF. And I got to say. I'm more likely to use the ignore function in the TV threads then over there.

Arrax was struggling to stay aloft in the storm as Aemond mounted Vhagar and went after Luke. Arrax was younger and swifter, and on a calm day might have been able to outfly his pursuer, but the weather impeded him, and Vhagar was five times the size of her foe and the hardened survivor of a hundred battles. The two dragons met above Shipbreaker Bay. According to Archmaester Gyldayn, if there was a fight it could not have lasted long. Arrax fell, broken, to be swallowed by the storm-lashed waters of the bay. His head and neck washed up beneath the cliffs below Storm's End three days later. Prince Lucerys's body was never found.

Yet one of the complaints for most of the season is that none of the characters are likable

Thanks. From that scene she didn’t look 5 times as big. Just her head seemed 5 times as big when she cut Arrax to pieces in one bite.

This show is missing any traces of humor that made GOT so good. Tyrion and Bronn had more funny/witty lines in 30 seconds than this entire first season. Not that we need full on comedy but it certainly lightens things up a little with all of the heavy themes.
It reminds me of comparing Star Wars episodes 4-6 to 1-3.
