I'm debating if it might be a good move for leagues with bigger rosters and that start more WRs, to pick up Clayton (or keep him if he was already rostered) in the hopes that the Ravens release or trade him now to a team like the Rams where he might end up starting.
I think this would be an excellent move by the Rams if they made some sort of offer for him. I guess that makes it highly unlikely.
Clayton? Seriously? Regardless of how WR-starved the team is, trading for him would be ridiculous.
Trade finalized an hour later! :bag:
Don't worry, I laughed. Like I said above, hope he outperforms my meager expectations.
As underperforming as Clayton has been for the Ravens, I think he might be the best healthy WR they have right now. I went ahead and picked him up in a league where most teams start 5 WR including a flex, though I'm not sure I'd bother in a league that starts fewer or doesn't have large rosters like ours (34 players). If I were a Rams fan I wouldn't consider this a bad move by them in any event. Not unless they gave up something earlier than a 6th round pick for him.

Hate to break it you guys, but have you watched the preseason games?

Mason is Flacco's BFF. He is always open, runs crisp routes and has a great first step.

On one drive this preseason Mason was targeted 6 times!

Housh is an insurance policy. Mason and Boldin are both Possession WRs, and Housh can't play the slot.

at 855k, they are just holding him so the Bungles couldn't get him. He will ride the pine until somebody gets hurt.

Go look at who's played more games the past 5 years, Mason or Boldin. Mason hasn't missed a game since 2002-03.

Housh is not probably even going to play until week 3 or 4.

absolute downgrade for Mason. Bump for Flacco. Only 2 affected. Housh will help move chains, nothing more. I think this will be like a GB/Saints situation, great for the QB, almost impossible to figure out who's going to get the receptions/TD's week to week with so many weapons. Rice, Heap, bunch of capable receivers. Boldin's the stud, so he'll get his. But it'll be spread..
Mason will lead the team in receptions barring injury.Mason is Flacco's safety net and that won't change. Boldin leads the team in yardage and tds. Mason will play the slot some along with Boldin when Housh is in the game.Flacco's weakness is throwing over the middle. He has gotten better leaning on Heap, but it will keep Boldin's and Housh's numbers down. I think you'll see more of Pitta in the two te sets for his blocking.BTW Cecil and Sig still harbor a grudge against Flacco for leaving the Pitt Panthers when it was obvious the coaches loved Palko and it was his job no matter what. Take everything they say about him with a grain of salt. We all have our own personal grudges against certain players. It would be better if they were upfront about that before they project qbs like Vince Young to have a higher upside. Anybody who has seen VY play and throw knows it would take a miracle for him to ever throw for 3800 yards and 28 tds.

i dont understand how people think its a downgrade for rice. are they changing their entire offense now?

With Mason being at the end of his career and having tried to retire once already (and being continually dinged)... does anyone think Mason will welcome the chance to contribute on a reduced basis by cutting his snaps once TJ catches on and steps up? TJ and Boldin seems like a nice combo... I never thought TJ was a great deep receiver... but him being opposite Boldin will keep D's honest... and Mason can come in when BAL runs 3 WR sets and contribute--but stay 'fresher' and not take such a pounding by not being on the field every play.. possibly letting him last the season w/out another injury piling on?

just a thought.

Madness. They didn't go out and break the bank on one of the NFL's premiere pass hogs to let him go to waste behind a mediocre talent approaching social security age. Barring injury, Boldin outpaces Mason by at LEAST 30 receptions.

Terps is usually dead on with his read on the Ravens, but I agree with HR on this one. Mason just went to a complentary role. No shame in that, guy's a warrior. But the Housh signing just sent Mason to FF irrelevance. Still a good NFL player, bad FF bet.

Mason has been the primary (and favorite) target of Flacco. I doubt that chances just because some new guy arrives a couple days before the season starts.

Agree. I have Flacco throwing for 3700 yards. Assume about 500 to Rice and 200 to McGahee/McClain, you're down to 3000 to be distributed between Boldin, Housh, Mason, and Heap. I can't see Boldin getting less than 1000, so you have 2000 yards between Housh, Mason, and Heap. Not enough to make any of them fantasy relevant.Upgrade Flacco a little, downgrade Rice and Boldin a little, downgrade Mason a lot.

again, its posts like these that make me wonder what Housh was smoking - still havent heard him say " I just want to win" . . .

Darn, I just realized I have Mason on one of my teams.....now who to pick up.....Jacoby Jones, Roy Williams, or Mike Williams (Sea)???
