I was going to post in the game thread. But watching another franchise's fans melting down completely was such a refreshing change I didn't want to interupt them.
Our OL coach probably deserves a raise after their performance the last two weeks with so many backups in.
But have to feel good about Stroud's progress, and also what we're seeing from Tank Dell. For those doing fantasy, I won't be surprised if we have some seesawing between him and Nico Collins as defenses try to take away whoever had the last good game. Nico was the better receiver the first two games and Jax worked to take him away more and Tank made them pay. I could see it swinging back against the Steelers.

Hahaha, I was also enjoying that![]()
This team is really impressing me - Not giving into injury excuses and playing as a complete unit with lots of heart. Can't wait til they get healthy. My friends at the game said the atmosphere felt like the early 2010s Turn Down For Watt days.
And yeah, give that OL coach a raise and lock in Slowik for another 5 years.

Schedule is shaping up to not be very daunting either. As long as the defense doesn’t pull another week 2 and completely not show up there are a lot of winnable games on this list:
ATL 2-2
NO 2-2
Bye
CAR 0-4
TAM 3-1
CIN 1-3
ARI 1-3
JAX 2-2
DEN 1-3
NYJ 1-2?
TEN 2-2
CLE 2-2
TEN 2-2
IND 2-2

Wow. Jets and Bengals had looked to be NFL contenders but neither looks good. That doesn't leave a whole lot of high caliber opponents. Tampa might be playing above their heads. Jacksonville and Cleveland and maybe New Orleans might be the best of the bunch there.
Edit to add: Jamie Erdahl gave her game ball to Nick Caserio. As she put it "We are classically trained to doubt what the Texans are trying to put together". Part of that is including getting Demeco for coach, as well as the roster overhaul.
They also traded up to No 3, that looks like a very wise move, not sure if they have a 1st next year or not, but they are trending in the right direction
Houston is going to beat the snot out of a few more teams this year,
20. Houston Texans (2-2)
Week 4 ranking: 28
Defensive efficiency: 54.0 (17th)
Biggest issue on defense: Sacking the quarterback
The biggest issue for the Texans' defense is its inability to get sacks. Houston is tied for the fifth-fewest sacks in the NFL with seven. The issue isn't pressuring the quarterbacks, as the Texans have the third-highest pressure rate (44.4%). But they can't turn pressure into sacks. The team leader is defensive end Jonathan Greenard with three sacks, and the pass rush showed potential against the Steelers, sacking their quarterback three times. If this unit wants to reach the next level, it must start making the big plays and sacking quarterbacks.
The Houston Texans left guard Kendrick Green suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee against the Pittsburgh Steelers and is expected to be out indefinitely, a source told ESPN on Tuesday.
When the Texans inserted Green into the starting lineup, he was 33rd overall in pass-block win rate (91.0) and 52nd in run-block win rate (65.9%).
One option to replace Green is Jones after he recovers from a hand injury he suffered in Week 3. Center Jarrett Patterson, who replaced the original starting center Juice Scruggs, could slide to left guard once the team activates Scruggs (hamstring) from the injured reserve.
From ESPN articleOriginal prediction: DE Will Anderson Jr. ranks top 10 in pass rush win rate at edge.
Why I'm sticking: He ranks third in PRWR among all edge rushers so far. Assuming health, this one is going to hit. Heck, let's go further, shall we? I'll say Anderson hits double-digit sacks, too. He has only one through four games. Between Anderson, quarterback C.J. Stroud and third-round receiver Tank Dell, the Texans' draft class is humming.
Anyone have a PFF login? Curious what Christian Harris' rating is. Noticed he had 13 tackles Sunday.
Also, what are our CB ratings? I see Tavierre Thomas looks like he's 3rd in the league, and Stingley and Nelson 5th and 8th? Is that right, or is it not sorting by what I think it's sorting by? Their stats are hidden but seems like it's sorting in order anyway.
And Harris 5th and To'o To'o 6th and Perryman 9th?
Patriots one of three teams who have not scored over 20 pts yet.
Hi BOB.
1. C.J. Stroud, QB, Houston Texans
Stats: 1,461 passing yards, 7 TD passes, 0 INTs
Drafted: No. 2 overall
Why is Stroud No. 1? Let's start with the fact that the first 186 regular-season passing attempts of his career went without an interception -- and that's now an NFL record. Even in the face of the pressure, he has played with composure and quality decision-making.
Stroud has been busy, too. He has the fifth-most attempts in the league, is one of seven quarterbacks with at least 200 total dropbacks and has a QBR (56.2) better than Trevor Lawrence, Derek Carr and Deshaun Watson. Stroud is finding success on a Texans team swimming with young players. -- Legwold
10. Will Anderson Jr., DE, Houston Texans
Stats: 21 tackles, 1 sack
Drafted: No. 3 overall
Anderson has been slightly overshadowed by Stroud in Houston but is still fantastic in his own right. The edge rusher has just one sack in five games, but he has added 21 tackles and a blocked field goal to go with it. Anderson's pass rush win rate of 30.1% is third best in the league and shows he's getting to the quarterback. And as the season goes on, he'll start to close on the passer better to turn those pressures into sacks.
His flashes through five games have been notable, and my bet would be that Anderson will end the season with double-digit sacks. -- Miller
What is the biggest early takeaway from the 2023 draft class?
Houston's aggressiveness to land Stroud and Anderson with back-to-back picks is paying off with the best early returns of the 2023 draft class. Not only does Stroud look like the top rookie quarterback, but Anderson is a leader on the Texans' defense and is playing well. Plus, receiver Tank Dell (third-round pick) is averaging 17.1 yards per reception, and linebacker Henry To'oTo'o (fifth-round pick) looks great. This 2-3 Texans team is ascending in the AFC thanks in part to their rookies' play. -- Pryor
What's the outlook for the two first-round QBs who didn't make this list?
Richardson (No. 4 pick) missed one game with a concussion, and he's now down for at least four games with a shoulder injury. We've seen his playmaking traits, both as a runner and thrower, but he will need to log more reps against pressure when he returns and improve there. Richardson's QBR of 34.4 when blitzed ranks 29th in the NFL.
Carolina's Bryce Young (No. 1 pick) must improve his decision-making and ball security while also generating more explosive plays. He has two games with multiple interceptions in four starts, and his four explosive-play throws rank 34th in the league. -- Bowen
Which late-rounder is overperforming right now?
Texans linebacker Henry To'oTo'o. Drafted at No. 167 overall, he has stepped right into the middle of DeMeco Ryans' defense, and his instincts against the run and instincts in coverage have continued to stand out each week. He leads all first-year linebackers with 39 tackles and has been among the biggest bright spots of an impressive rookie class. To'oTo'o is known for his football sense and see-read-react ability on the second level, and we're seeing it. -- Reid
Stroud wasn’t touched Sunday. And he was pressured only four times all game. The Falcons generated pressure on 11.4% of Stroud’s drop backs, which was the second lowest pressure rate in a game by a defense this season, according to NFL’s Next Gen stats.
Hou vs Cle week 16 could be interesting tooA bit early to put stock in these. But the ESPN FPI predictor thing on draft order has the Bears with the top two picks, with Carolina's pick being #1. Talk about a possible haul if it works out like that.
They have our pick that Cards own as pick #15, and the Browns pick we own as pick 19.
The Texans' offense currently ranks sixth in pass offense DVOA. You know how teams like to protect their rookie quarterbacks with a strong run game? Well, the Texans rank dead last in DVOA running the ball.
Despite Ryans' optimism about the blocking, Pierce has the sixth-highest stuff rate (23.8%) and second-worst yards before contact average (-0.2), according to Next Gen Stats. Despite being hit behind the line of scrimmage, he's averaging 3.2 yards after contact, which ranks 14th.
I can't express how refreshing it is seeing a competently coached team. One that doesn't flop after halftime adjustments are made.
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is "probably" going to miss the rest of the regular season and could undergo shoulder surgery in the next week or so, team owner Jim Irsay told ESPN on Monday.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill suffered a high right ankle sprain during Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, putting his availability in the coming weeks in question, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Turron Davenport on Monday.
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Trevor Lawrence is day-to-day with a left knee injury but wouldn't elaborate on the specifics of the injury or whether his starting quarterback could play in Thursday night's game at the Saints.
After six weeks, the Texans are tied for 10th in points allowed per game (18.8) after finishing 27th in 2022, allowing 24.7 points per game. Their pressure rate ranks second (41%) while they're tied for 12th in red zone defense (50%). They've improved their run defense, allowing 651 yards through six games this season (ranked 17th in the NFL). Last year, they allowed the sixth-most rushing yards in NFL history (2,894).
EDGE Will Anderson Jr., Texans
When Anderson lined up over right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, which was the overwhelming majority of snaps, it was a heavyweight fight that often ended with Ramczyk winning the repetition. There were moments where Anderson would get on Ramczyk's hip and bend the edge but he was not winning through the veteran. Half of his eight pressures came over left Trevor Penning or Cesar Ruiz, who replaced Ramczyk when he exited late.
Which coordinator has boosted his head-coaching stock the most through six weeks?
...
Graziano: Deep cut here: It's probably too early for first-year Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik to get serious looks, but teams don't mind talking to young offensive minds, and it's impossible to look at what Houston has done and not be impressed.
Fowler: Slowik has impressed in short order. He might be a year away but definitely looks poised to become a strong candidate eventually.
One of the first changes DeMeco Ryans made when he became head coach of the Texans was to switch up the locker room.
In previous years, players’ lockers were arranged by position groups. The defensive linemen sat with the defensive linemen, the offensive linemen sat with the offensive linemen, the cornerbacks sat with the cornerbacks, and so on. Rarely would offensive and defensive players cross paths unless it was a team meeting.
So, Ryans decided to mix and match position groups when he got to Houston.
Stroud’s locker is in between Pitre’s and Tunsil’s. Running back Dameon Pierce’s locker is next to linebacker Denzel Perryman’s.
And cornerback Tavierre Thomas sits next to running back Gerrid Doaks.
“I really wanted to build an environment conducive for guys to communicate and talk to each other from different sides of the ball — offense and defense,” Ryans said of his reasoning for switching the locker room. “Just making sure we build a true team environment and not an environment that it’s offense, defense and you feel separated.”
That subtle change of where players sit, and who they interact with has paid off. It’s made the Texans a closer team, players say.
How much closer?
“Wayyy closer,” right tackle Tytus Howard said with emphasis.
Defensive tackle Kurt Hinish, whose locker is diagonal from Stroud and Pitre, agreed.
“It definitely changed the dynamic,” Hinish said. “I talk to Pitre and C.J. a lot.” ... “Previously, I would have never talked to them,” Hinish said. “But now that we’re here, I talk to them all the time. It’s cool. I like it.”
