How 'bout them Reds! (1 Viewer)

2 out of 3 vs a struggling Brew crew. I always hate to play teams in a downward spiral. They have more reason to bounce back. Still, a sweep would have been nice. Onward we go. Keep playing fellas. I would be so proud of the team to get a shot in the playoffs. It could be a real Cinderella story as I'll take my chances with our bats against anyone. Go Redlegs!!!

LONDON - Jockey Paul O'Neill will be investigated by the sport's governing body after television replays showed him head-butting his horse, City Affair.

The Horseracing Regulatory Authority made the decision Monday to hold an inquiry after reviewing TV footage from the incident at the Stratford races on Sunday.

"We haven't got a date set, but we are going to go for some time next week — our inquiry day is usually on the Thursday," HRA spokesman Owen Byrne said.

City Affair was being unruly in the parade ring, ultimately throwing O'Neill. The jockey got to his feet and grabbed the reins, pulling the horse to him, before lowering the butt of his helmet into it.

"Angry jockey does a 'Zidane' to his horse," read the headline of London's Evening Standard.

City Affair went on to finish fourth in the two-mile event. O'Neill was given a caution by stewards for his use of the whip in the race.
Sounds like the Paul O'Neill we used to know and love. Who knew?

especially this part:

YAN RELEASED: The Reds released right-hander Esteban Yan Monday. The club had designated him for assignment July 14, giving them 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the minors.
How much dead money do the Reds have on their payroll now? Krivsky has been quite the free spender. I know a lot of the problems are from the previous GM but they have cut a lot of players this year. more than i can remember.Esteban YanChris HammmondQuinton McCrackenRick WhiteCody RossTony WomackProbably more that I am forgetting.

I obviously slept through July 7. They let McCracken go and sent Ramirez down, to Single A? Wassup with dat?

McCracken = :X Ramirez went to A ball to start on his regularly scheduled day during the All Star Break. He got shelled in Dayton.

You pitch for the Big team then go try and get motivated throwing in an "A" ballgame. I am not worried. He looked great tonight.

And Kyle Lohse for Zach Ward.

The first deal is okay. It makes the Lopez/Kearns deal look still more :X , but  .

I have mixed feelings about the second deal. I'm not sure Lohse is any better than Claussen or Germano right now and Ward is a pretty decent prospect. OTOH, you've got to be encouraged that Krivsky/Castellini are making the effort.

Also, if getting every Twins position player and castoff by trade is the plan, Santana/Liriano/Mauer/Morneau should be Reds by 2015. So there's that.

Yeah, Lohse should fit right in, with his 7.07 ERA. And Cormier can sit around the bullpen with Weathers and Mercker and compare their long, non-illustrous careers.

We don't need any more useless set-up men, Wayne!

I wrote it in another thread, but now that Lohse is in the weak NL, maybe he'll be a surprise - not dominant or anything great, but maybe he'll eat some innings, and be halfway decent.

I like getting Cormier but don't understand the Lohse deal. Isn't Claussen coming off the DL for the next time the fifth spot comes around?

Maybe not anymore. Either will likely be a tee for the rest of the season.Krivsky clearly has a thing for his ex-Twins. Mays, Guardado, Castro....

Nah, Cormier looks to be recovered after some heavy use in 2003 and 2004. He may well be the best option out of the pen for the rest of the season. Very likely more valuable than Majewski.

Did every recently acquired relief pitcher give up at least one run tonight, or did I miss one?

Nice job Reds

Ahhh this thread makes me miss home! Why oh why did I have to move to Alabama for a job! :wall: :wall:

Note to self...start looking for jobs back in Cincy ASAP!

Keep up the :goodposting: !

This team does NOT know how or when to quit. They do it again tonight.

There is magic in the air in southern Ohio and it's due, in a big way, to Bob Castellini & Wayne Krivsky.

Thank you for bringing hope back to my beloved Reds!!!

2.5 outta first and leading the WC!

This is the decision I face. I really want to move back, but I have to give up an awful lot. That was awesome tonight. I looked at 8-9-1 up in the 9th and have to say, I didn't have much faith, but wow, what a hit.

Anytime a team gets to celebrate in front of Tony LaRussa is fine by me.

I've never seen a more bitter SOB in my life.

Even though it will never be written, LaRussa and his sidekick Dave Duncan will pen 'The Unwritten Rules of Baseball.'

Chapter 11.... Look away as your power hitters juice up... Maguire... Canseco... Edmonds... Pujols... We know nothing.

Tough loss for the Cards, but pretty much every team in the NL stinks, except for the Mets.

Oh, and since when is Pujols juicing?

I work right next to the Ballpark and the parking lots were full at 8:30 this morning, for a 12:30 game. The traffic around the stadium last night at 5:30 was unreal.

No matter what happens from here, Castellini and Krivsky have to realize that Cincy will, eventually, support a competitive team, which bodes well for the future.

Went to the game last night and it's been a long time since it's had that type of feel.

Couldn't agree more Shuke. That's one of the best ball game I have been to in a loooooooooong time  and the vibe in the stadium was unreal. You can tell the players are going all out. Something I haven't seen in quite a while.

I think the key to the Reds winning the Central (or at least geting the WC) is me turnin off the game when it seems hoplessly lost. Last night was the 4th or 5th time this season I shut off the TV in disgust with one or two out in their last at bat.

This morning I see they won.

I shall now be known as 8 1/3 innings.
