How 'bout them Reds! (1 Viewer)

They absolutely NEED to win 2 of 3 vs the Friars, although a sweep makes it a lot more plausible.

I still believe.

Hell, even if they don't make the playoffs, this team was picked by most experts to finish dead last...in Wayne K I trust.

 Still have 7 vs. the Cubbies. Need to take out SD for any of that to matter though.

Griffey pinch-hits a 3-run homer w/ two outs in the bottom of the eighth to put 'em ahead 5-4. Nice way to end the home season, even if they're out of it.

:goodposting:
Ken Griffey Jr. moved into 10th place on baseball's career home-run list with a three-run, pinch-hit shot in the eighth inning Monday that lifted the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs.Griffey, in his first appearance after missing 17 games with a toe injury, hit a 1-1 pitch from left-hander Scott Eyre (1-3) into the right-field seats for his 27th homer this season and 563rd of his career, tying Reggie Jackson on the home run list. It was the fifth pinch-hit homer of his career.

As much as I hate to say it, whoever wins this division is toast in the playoffs. The west coast teams have owned the central in the last few weeks. Regardless, who'd have thought that with a week to go the Reds would still be mathematically in the chase!!! Great year as a Reds fan.

Reds fans, I just dropped in to say hello. :bye: :bye: How is your team doing? :lmao:
Who's your team?Yankees?Red Sox?Cardinals?Mets?<insert any bandwagon team here>
I have lived in St. Louis since I was born in '73. I have been a Cardinals fan since I was old enough to figure out I liked baseball. Thanks for asking. :)
Hey, Ghost Rider. How's your team doing? :bye: :bye:
Pretty sure they're in first place. It seems like that should be a source of pride, but :bag:

Ok, so I missed that one a little. :bag:

Milton gave up live 28 runs against a Pirates single A team today. Seriously, this ###hole better not make the opening day roster.

How about that throw by Hamilton today? Sick.

Outside of being patient and waiting for the inevitable Griffey or Freel injury, what does this kid have to do to get into the lineup? It drives me nuts that they feel the need to throw the likes of Hatteberg and whoever else they've had playing there over the last 3 seasons when Dunn is somewhat capable of playing the position. It's cost Freel, Pena and Kearns time to develop by getting the chance to play everyday and I can only imagine that it will happen to Hamilton too since they have Conine on the roster now.

Are you talking about 1B? I don't think Dunn is as capable of playing it as everyone hoped.

 The guys in the bullpen are going to be toast by mid-June again this year if Belisle can't keep it together on the back end. Three straight days of cleaning up after the #3-4-5 SP mess is ridiculous.

The Reds OF:

LF - Dunn

CF - Freel

RF - Griffey Jr.

Conine looks like the 4th OF. How does Hamilton get playing time as the 5th Ofer?

Now I understand that both Freel & Griffey are brittle but I don't see how Hamilton is roster-able in a 12 team league.

Conine will platoon at first. Denorfia and Hamilton will be the reserve outfielders. The major question could have been, if Griffey can't start the season in the starting lineup and Hamilton keeps up his torrid pace against the real thing how do you bench him? With Griffey back in the lineup now, it's probably not going to be an issue any longer.

I almost think if Griffey can't go on opening day or gets hurt the first move would be Freel to RF and Denorfia to CF. Denorfia is fast and has a really good glove. It will be interesting to see how they use Hamilton. I know I have heard he is a very good defensive outfielder but aren't they more inclinded to play him in LF ? And slide Dunn to 1B on days Hatteberg takes off?

Hamilton could play any outfield spot. His speed and range makes him a great fit in CF and his arm rivals that of the best RFs in the game. I believe I read Narron say that he was toying with lineups including Hamilton when Griffey's status was still up in the air. Conine is there to spell Hatteberg; I doubt you'll see much of Dunn at 1B this year. I like Denorfia too, but he wasn't a lock to make the team until Hopper was injured.

I think atleast we will have some viable pinch hitters in the late innings. Its the same story again this year though, IF starting pitching is effective we will be alright. I would like to see Coffey be the closer, I hear he has added another pitch(splitter I think).

Todd Coffey is big and ugly.I wish he would grow his hair long and grow a big long nasty beard....like the mad hungarian. It would add to his intimidation factor.
