Dusty pretty much said that "Plan A was having him as a starter, and we had to go to plan B. Might as well go to plan C now." Something around that effect on Chapman.

I still think he's worth more how they've been using him. He can't pitch 2 innings every time he dominates or his arm would fall off in June.Why the hell isn't Chapman your closer?It's a miracle if you even put the ball in play against him.
When he didn't come back in for the 9th, my reaction was.... THANK YOU.

For the record, I'm a Dusty fan... Jump all you want, no worries. I'll admit that I've been busy this year and not catching all the games, and I'm not able to catch the games I do watch until late, so I trust you guys. I do think there's a difference between not having a choice and choosing the young guy over a vet, but I'm basing that on pre-2012. No need to rehash though, and I didn't meant to suggest that playing the "young" guys was the answer. Baseball is my favorite sport and man do I see a lot of talent on this team. Last year sucked, and then this year started poorly, but maybe they're starting to turn things around. Chapman is sick. Phillips is starting to come around. Votto is Votto. Bruce is Bruce. Hopefully Stubbs will start realizing his talent. Same with Leake. I won't ##### as much anymore because I hate Debbie Downers more than anyone.

I think perpetually waiting for the other shoe to drop is some sort of requirement for following Cincinnati teams.
I thought I jinxed them by prematurely posting "Sweeeep!" last night and then hurriedly deleting it when I realized it was Wednesday and not Thursday.
My brain has been a day ahead of the calendar all week, which has made this one super-long work week.

How does one of the fastest guys in baseball only get from second to third on a shot off the right field wall?? The outfielder clearly gave up on it to play the richochet. He will face Pitts in his next start also. What did it take, 100 pitches for a CG last night? When Homer is confident and throwing strikes, he's really good. He also pitches better with a lead.7 more against Pit/Hou until Detroit comes to town. Keep piling them up.

With all the injuries the bullpen has had thus far, Aroldis is way more important in the closer spot than the rotation right now. Long term, definitely as the #1 or #2 starter. Cueto, Aroldis, Latos pretty solid punch.

Any chance the Reds replace Baker as manager after this year? I was hoping he would be gone after last season's step backward but here we go again. This team just can't get any real momentum going under him. Tonight DB uses 3 pitchers to get 1 out in the 7th, then brings Chapman in with 2 on in the 8th and no outs. Chapman was not good either so he has to share some of the blame, but I'm tired of seeing DB in the dugout. Rant complete. Thanks for playing.

If he wins the division as he should with this team, he'll be back. If he doesn't, 100% chance he's gone. He has to win this year. How he gets there won't mean anything.I don't have a big problem with the handling of the bullpen last night. It worked out horribly, but each decision made sense at the time.

Yeah I can't really pick too much at the bullpen mgmt. prior to the last couple or three games almost anybody he threw out there got the job done.Some of the late inning situational stuff he pulls drives me nuts though. It doesn't help that the bench is woeful though. I think I've seen Negron bat twice now, and both have been failed check swing K's. I'd rather see the pitcher bat just so I don't have to look at his Brady Bunch perm busting out of his helmet.

Nice inning from Arrendondo after Arroyo drove off the cliff there. It sure seems like he baffles teams for 6 innings or two trips through the order, then they just start hammering him. With the bullpen going this good, Dusty should just plan on pulling him after 6regardless of pitch count or score.
The solo moonshot in the 6th should have been warning enough to not send him back for the 7th.

Frazier's going to need to play at least 1 or 2 games a week to help keep Rolen off the DL, and he can play multiple positions. I don't think it will be too hard to find 3 games a week for Frazier, maybe 4.

So you have no problem sacrificing 2-3 games per week of Frazier's .900+ OPS for this?2011 - .242 / .279 / .379
2012 - .174 / .238 / .304
Let's say Frazier regresses and OPS at 100 points less over his next 50 games. Somewhere in the .800 - .825 range. There's still no reason to play Rolen over him. He hasn't had an OPS over .726 in any single month since July of 2010. He's old, he's damaged goods. The guy should be, at most, a late inning defensive replacement
But Rolen was an all-star the last two years.....
I think Rolen will be a nice Sunday start to rest Frazier, and the occasional late inning defensive replacement/pinch hitter. If When Dusty starts regularly benching Frazier, it'll start costing the offense runs.

Reds need a better #2 if we are going to compete for a championship this year. Cueto can hang with the best of the best, Arroyo is a solid #3 man. Latos is so hit or miss at #2, Bailey might be a better option later in the season as a #3 and Arroyo bumped up to #2 over Latos. If Leake is on, he is dominating, but that is few and far between.

3.) I suspect Dusty will give Rolen the benefit of the doubt and if he goes back to stinking up the joint, then Dusty will sit down with Rolen and have a talk. Frazier is not the 2nd coming of Brooks Robinson. You just don't Wally Pipp a well respected veteran like Rolen with a guy who's basically only given a half season of production, especially when that veteran was out because of injury.
4.) UNTIL THEN.... there's no reason why Frazier can't get 3 or 4 starts a week.

I never responded that he's not going to continue to get ABs, just that he's basically going to lose ABs. Any chance that you're the one that needs to read before replying?3.) 1.) If I was speaking specifically to you, I would have. 2.) You made a few assumptions/smart ### comments in your original response just like you did above. I was never discussing who should start. I never said anything about you claiming that Frazier wasn't going to continue to get at bats.
3.) I assumed that everyone already knew that Dusty was going to put Rolen back into the starting lineup and didn't think it needed discussed. We all know that. I wasn't discussing whether Frazier should start. That's a moot point. Everyone knows and has known that Rolen was moving back into the starting lineup. It's pretty common for a veteran coming back from injury to assume his starting position, especially in cases like these. Again, Frazier is not Brooks Robinson, but he's a nice luxury to have. I hope this explains the "until then" comment better? I was just clarifying my thoughts on Rolen and the situation in the 2nd post because some of the responses, like yours, were not in accordance to the comments I made in my original post.
4.) You made assumptions and comments to my original post that had nothing to do with what I said. You seem to have taken offense to some of my comments whether they were directed at you or not. I apologize for not realizing that some people were under the impression that Dusty wasn't going to start Frazier over Rolen, but again, I never even wanted to discuss that. I never did in my original post. I only brought it up after the responses.

Bailey has certainly looked the part lately. If he throws strikes, he's solid; We all know that. Leake appears to be a mental midget. That said, who else are they going to throw out there? I pretty much agree with the rotation order you listed above.

Pretty much, but Mauer's AB was impressive regardless. He also tried to dust off the breaking ball which he has completely ignored for about a month. The results weren't very good and he eventually got hurt on 2 high fastballs.

At least Latos looked like the stud the Reds were looking to get. He was very impressive throwing like 24 strikes in a row.
