How 'bout them Reds! (2 Viewers)

Trade deadline today.  Clock is ticking on Matt Harvey.  I wonder if they don't get a deal, if they'd try to extend him.

Without him they'll still need two starters in order to compete next year and make a serious run.

With him, I suspect they would still need to acquire two starters but the rotation would look that much better.

I have no idea what kind of salary he would command.

Given the Sp market, I’m positive they’re getting real offers for Harvey. I’d assume he goes today. If I’m wrong and they saw enough value in having him around that they turned down prospects, I agree with you we could be looking at an extension.

Besides, they have plenty of room to pay someone and finding a pitcher who wants to sign here as a FA is rough. If we have one who wants to be here that we think is good, I’m sure it’s on the table. Now that I typed that, still 90% he goes today.

If they feel they aren't getting great offers for Harvey today, makes sense to wait until the waiver trade deadline. Seems more big names have been moved around then since the second wild card spot was added.

Article on RedReporter today points out that if they aren't getting good offers, that could also be a signal that he won't command such a high salary as a FA, and the Reds could potentially afford to sign him then.

Lots of smoke and no fire yet from the winter meetings.  The best rumor I've heard yet was the Reds interest in Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer.

Least favored rumors include Yasiel Puig and Jackie Bradley Jr.  Not a fan of either.  Although Puig would increase his HR totals in GABP.

Boom!

eta - Reds get Puig, Wood, Kemp and Kyle Farmer for Bailey, Jeter Downs and Josiah Gray. Doyers  also giving $7M cash

I know this isn’t the prime place to acquire Reds breaking news but I’m pretty happy to see the Reds were able to complete the deal for Sonny Gray with an extension.  I was starting to get worried he was going to be another rental.

Tough to give up prospects.  I’ve read a variety of opinions on Shed Long mostly positive, but the need for pitching is overwhelming.

Does anyone think they continue to try and get Kluber?

This probably ends the pursuit of Kluber. Some of the rumors from the Cleveland people of return makes me think they aren’t really serious about moving him.

Im ok with how it ended up even if no more happens. I think they’ve made a solid effort to get serious at the MLB level without gutting the farm.

There is probably still a CF coming, but I think Schebler plays a lot of CF if not. I doubt Kemp is an everyday starter.

They've got some pure CF prospects in the minors, but not likely ready for MLB yet.  I agree it'll be Puig/Schebler/Winker more often, with Kemp giving the corner guys a day off here and there.

Senzel was reportedly doing some CF work in the Fall league, and I've also seen speculation of Peraza getting some time there (presumably with Senzel at SS, I guess).

I’m reading on Twitter that the reds are trying to acquire Realmuto.
They mentioned on the Radio of possibly trading India. Normally I wouldn’t think the Reds would have a chance, but lately they’ve made so many moves I almost expect them to end up with JTR.

I think his bat would be a nice addition to this lineup, but I would still prefer they use whatever trade assets they have for acquiring another starting pitcher.

Any Reds homers see the MLB Network special on Johnny Bench?

I knew about his offensive skills, his 1970 season was ridiculous: 45 HR/148 RBI, with a .932 OPS. But what stood out was his defensive ability, with a rocket of an arm, and blocking the plate like a Sherman tank.

Another thing of note, was how Sparky Anderson just ran him into the ground. He wouldn't give Bench time off even when Bench asked for one. He was broken physically before he turned thirty.

I had not realized that all the Pete Rose gambling stuff occurred during the summer of Bench's induction into the HOF, and kind of took the air out of what should have been one of the happiest, proudest moments of his career. It is understandable why Bench feels a coldness towards Rose.

He and Reggie Jackson are close buddies. I never knew that. They visit with each other a lot, talk and e-mail.

The only disappointing thing was not a single clip or mention of The Baseball Bunch. I grew up on that show. This Week In Baseball and Baseball Bunch would air back-to-back every Saturday afternoon.

2015    64 wins
2016    68 wins
2017    68 wins
2018    67 wins
2019    is 81 wins shooting to high with who they've added this off season?

I don’t think that’s aiming too high. A lot depends on the health of the rotation, but the top 5 is good enough for a winning record with the offense. The risk for this year is SP depth, but really not many other teams feel great about their 7th SP either. I’m optimistic

I’m moderately excited by what this offense could do, but I still don’t trust any of the pitching.

Reds need to show some life this year. If this is it for Marty, and the National League adopts the DH, I’m out and going all in on FCC.

Just read an article about 2 way players and the 26th roster spot. If they really want to improve the game, put in a mercy rule where if you are down 10 after 7th inning you can just quit instead of putting your backup shortstop out there to throw BP.  Everybody gets free Larosa’s and the beer sales are over anyway. Not like they’ve been packing the stands and a couple fewer Levy and Levy:Bad Toupee Law commercials aren’t going to kill FoxSports.

Puig is gonna put one right through the window of the Toyota Tacoma this year. Let’s go Reds!

So how long is Senzel kept down?  It would be good symbolism for this all-in season for him to start in CF on opening day.  The next CBA is going to scramble everything before Senzel is arbitration eligible anyway.

I still drafted Schebler as a handcuff because I'm a cynic.

I think he plays opening day.

Mike Lorenzen playing center field as a defensive substitution for Winker (Schebler moved to left).

He is probably the best centerfielder on the team.

I know it's cold but it's tough to see only 1000 people in the stands.

At least I can hear all the wooo's on TV.

I didn't watch the early part of the game, why did they pull desclafani?  Watching the game recap his stuff looked nasty tonight.

I’m guessing he was on a pitch count and Bell had Kemp pinch hit for him in the bottom of the 5th.
