How 'bout them Reds! (1 Viewer)

There’s just not going to be a middle ground with this team, is there?

In just two games I’ve gone from “Effing Diaz has just killed all momentum and enthusiasm gained from an awesome Opening Day in less than one inning” through resignation as today was slipping away, to “holy **** did Benson and CES really just do that?!?”

Went to the game today. Take that bougie Cubs fans! 8 in a row!

The pendulum seems to be swinging back the other way after that horrific month of May. Some guys are even flirting with batting averages approaching .250 now.

Last game of the season.
Top of the 10th.
Reds get their free runner picked off on 2nd.
A perfect description of the Reds season.
Awful.

Who we hoping for to manage this squad?
I think Scott Servais is intriguing.

I certainly hope the Reds win 162 games, but I have my doubts they make it to .500 this year.
Starting the season with important pieces on the IL for the second year in a row is discouraging.
The bullpen looks below average.
And the fact they never went out and picked up a power hitting OF, is the biggest "WTF" of the off season.
This team has a history of holding onto prospects with potential, holding onto them like they're certain Hall of Famers when many of them never even make it to an All Star game.
I love having Francona, but I think it won't be long before he sees this organization isn't willing to make the moves to make the team competitive.
I think Tito helps them get to .500 but nothing more.
Prediction: 81-81.

If they make a midseason trade to add some power, I absolutely think they have a shot at getting to 88-90 wins and a Wild Card.

Gibaut as the closer? Why?
Yeah that was a head scratcher. I already have lame derogatory nicknames for most of the pen, half of whom have already earned it: Gi-blow, Maul, Pa-gone, and Asscraft.

McClain was sorely missed, and I think Elly is a centerfielder, especially since like @On The Rocks said, the Reds are seemingly incapable of finding outfielders who can hit with power.

Fun one to watch tonight though!

Matty Mc is about 5 accumulative feet on opening day from having 5 McDingers on the season!
If he stays healthy I think he certainly helps reverse the 1 run loss record from last season!

For a team full of fast guys, this has to be the worst baserunnng team I’ve ever seen. Just giving away outs.

To try to balance a negative observation with a positive one, 2 blown saves aside, the bullpen seems to be figuring itself out pretty mich and Mey looks good so far.

Yeah, I think I’m done praising any aspect of this team, until they trick me by being good again for two series (before scoring 4 runs for the whole month of July).

The Cubs have a top three offense in all of MLB. Andrew Abbott went through the lineup like a buzzsaw.

Today's game was the best pitched against the Cubs that I have seen all year.

What are we doing with Matt McLain? Is he in the line up just for his defense? I haven't had the chance to sit through an entire game in a couple of weeks, is he making good contact?
Is he injured? Does he need to go down and get some confidence? Makes me sad. I was so excited for his comeback this Spring!

I would love Elly much more as an outfielder. I don’t think his throws to first are consistent enough and he and McClain are just a weirdly awkward double play tandem. They seem like they should be so much better.

But apparently nobody else can play defense tonight either, so what do I know?

2 weeks ago I was ready to give up on the Reds and focus on the Bengals. Now I'm ready to give up on the Bengals and focus on the Reds. We're back baby!

This team........
Gets swept by the A's.
Sweeps the Cubs in 4.
And now going into the final week of the season with all the chips on the table, are about to get swept by the Pirates?
I don't know what to do. I really want them to get that taste of the playoffs this year, experience it, and maybe get a little magic. I wouldn't expect them to win the championship, but man....just get that playoff experience and build on it.

Such a frustrating team to watch.

Well....I sure wish the Reds had made a move to acquire a power hitting bat. A lot of woulda, coulda, shoulda.
The first one being, what would this team have looked like had they selected Nick Kurtz over Chase Burns? That wouldn't have cost them anything.
Working with what they had, I suppose the move of putting Marte in RF was their best option.
I loved the addition of Key'Bryan Hayes defensively, but his bat was a liability down the stretch.
Littell was also a nice addition. From what I read his great downfall was giving up too many walks, but he seemed to keep his walks to a minimum.
Is the long term plan for Connor Phillips to be in the rotation or the bull pen?
